No fancy stuff such as optic-ready slide, spring guide built-in laser sight, or even railed frame. Just a good trigger, good sights, good looking good reliability and good accuracy.

Cheap 1911's dont have the hours put in to make them reliable, it takes many hours to make a great " classic" 1911, and many dollars gor those hours? I had a Colt Officers jam in a shootout , not all 1911's are reliable? I have plain 1911's, and my latest is " fancy" if you want to call great features fancy?

My Springfield 1911 is closer to 30years old. No failures. It's true every time you service it regularly, refrain from BS ammo, replace the spring once in awhile, and just learn what you're doing. 1911s are not for beginners. If yours fails (for everybody) send it home under warranty and it will stop. Too simple. Sorry about your luck.

If you use good ammo and enough maintenance you should not see failures unless something breaks. Just like cars or any kind of machine it's "reliable" until it's not (breaks). I recently shot my first 1911 at an Armed Women of America meeting, and I loved it; when I asked about getting one, my local gunshop advised Springfield, possibly a high end Kimber.
I ordered a 9mm Garrison from Palmetto State Armory for $800 and am really enjoying it - I’m a Big Girl, 6’2”; I prefer Big Guns (I have a Beretta 92FS) The recoil of the Springfield was somewhat milder than the 92FS. I did have an issue with the slide after 20 rounds, but I attribute it to ‘new gun’ issues. I’ve field stripped, cleaned and really lubricated it, having been told that 1911’s like a lot of lubricant
I’m looking forward to getting back on the range - this Garrison just fits my hand so well!

Still my favorite pistol to take to the range and sure wouldn't be scared to defend myself with one either.

I really like Springfield’s pistols, but when 600 dollar pistols come with as many as 3 magazines, you would think they could manage at least two with an 800 dollar gun, but between this and the SA35 the single magazine seems to be their new standard.

This is the main trend: to provide less product but at the same or more expensive price => more margins !
Look at Apple: You don't even get a charger anymore when you buy an iPhone. Only a cable. Supposedly for ecological reasons (LOL), but the price never drops!

    • @Wachtier
      @Wachtier 2 года назад +14

@@konovalov10 You can give them the benefit of the doubt and suggest they’re doing it to keep the price low (an excuse I’ll accept for a 400 dollar Rock Island 1911 with only one magazine), but for 800 dollars that’s probably not a valid excuse. If Beretta can manage to put 2 or 3 magazines in a 92x box (a fairly similar pistol in terms of complexity and metal content, you get 3 with the older 92x pistols, only 2 with the red dot compatible model with the front serrations) for between 600 and 700 dollars, there’s no reason that Springfield can’t fit at least two into the price tags for this gun. It really is a shame because, that bit of gouging aside, they do make some really nice 1911s.

FWIW, The ONLY magazines I use in my 5, 1911 pistols (3 Colt's, 2 Kimbers) are Wilson Combat mags. I have no need for any other magazines to be left in the box with the owners manual and lock. Buy three Wilson mags and you will never need any other mags for any 1911.

Just got my garrison and added a Wilson combat full length guide rod and that’s it. I was hitting steel at 65 yards very accurate Springfield hit it out of the park with this one for the price!

I’ve owned 2 full size and still own an Ultra Compact. 3 of the 6 1911’s that I’ve owned were Springfields. All good reliable pistols. I wouldn’t mind owning a Gartison. It has the best of the traditional 1911 with nice upgrades. I think the only upgrades that I’d add would be TruGlo fiber optic tritium night sights a polished feed ramp, good quality 8 rd magazines and a 3.5 lb trigger. A Wilson Combat Bullet Proof extractor and firing pin and spring. That would make an already good pistol better. The salt nitride is more durable than I think Sootch knows it to be. Good review Sootch.

I had the milspec which was awesome for the price. This takes essentially that, adds better sights, not parkerized, and the only real issue I had - the extended beavertail. I think this is a great entry.

Just how I love em. No FCS, blued, traditional with some nice modern touches as mentioned. About perfect IMO. I bet I will really age nicely too as long as you keep the rust off. I love the way bluing ages.
Also it would be a perfect base gun for a full up high end custom build!

I've always enjoyed shooting the. 45 ACP. To me it's almost "Perfect" for the job!
And I have little sympathy for those big, husky, stoutly built youngsters, most still in their 30's, who moan and complain that the 1911 "Is too heavy" or "If kicks too much"!
I'm nearly 70. And if my arthritis filled hands and wrists can handle it, you "bitching" just makes you look a little bit "Whimpy"!!! 😉😊🙃

I’m 70 years old and I’ve always loved the 1911 .45 ACP. I have Colt, Springfield Armory and 2 Kimber 1911s. Some younger people who own Glocks tell me that the 1911s are “antiquated” and “outdated” and is old as I am. But the hell with them. I love it anyway!

Well, what can you expect from millenials and Gen Zrs. They are the ones who got trophies for finishing 4th and 5th place in team sports so they wouldn't feel bad about themselves. It's called overcoming adversity and working harder to accomplish things in life.

I really believe in Springfield Armory when it comes to the 1911. I plan on buying a garrison very soon and will never let it go. I had their mil spec years back and I swear that weapon never failed ever no matter how it was treated, and it actually held up better and outperformed a couple of my weapons I paid more money for that were supposed to be superior.

Interested in that one myself. There's enough old guys, Gen X who lived the transition (50 isn't old, dammit) and younger folks interested in history I think it can do well.
