@@HittokiriBattousai17 I’ve heard some pretty lame roasts as well as some pretty funny insults. I think the real difference between the two is intent. Roasts are more geared toward making bystanders laugh while insults are more about hurting the other persons feelings. Other than that slight difference the two words are interchangeable
Kimmel was way out of line with that comment about RD’s addiction. That’s not humor but merely an insult to a person who is an inspiration to the recovery community.
He’s seen it 100 hundred times and 99 times since he does not care. Move on child, damn.
At the end of the day RDJ is the better man. He beat his addiction, took the roast like a champ, and he is more successful.

@@ziberpc245yeah but that's a bit less on the nose than directly calling out his drug use. One of them is a bit of a cheeky joke, and the other is an insult. Small difference but it's notable. We see his costar trying to calm him because he clearly is upset by it.

@@royshavrickIt was definitely insensitive and disrespectful on Jimmy Kimmel's part. My 33 y/o daughter is a recovering alcoholic, it took a lot to pull herself out of her situation. She's over a year sober, I can't imagine making light of her or saying things that would make her feel bad.
It's not okay. RDJ really turned his life around, I have a lot of respect for him for taking control of his life and making the necessary changes in his life.

People would want Kimmel's head on a platter if they called it for what it was. Also, they'd pick a side, whereas calling it a "roast" sounds like both parties were in on a joke. Granted, I think people still want Kimmel's head on a platter or for him to apologize for that "joke". Robert not reacting with hostility shows where respect should really go.

For those slamming Jimmy for the RDJ joke, Robert has one of the best sense of humor around, nice guy who loves to laugh. Jimmy Kimmel - well still not a funny guy.
Downey has a good sense of humor, but he also knows when to tell people to back off. Having a good sense of humor has nothing to do with allowing people to insult you, or pry into your personal business.
I don't understand why people find it amusing to mock someone's struggles with addiction. Disapproving of Jimmy Kimmel.

It wasn't funny. If you are going to make a joke about a sensitive topic it has to be fun. Not funny and bringing that up is what is offensive. If we are in a friendly environment and you are going to bring everyone into attention to one of my faults or past faults, it is not considerate to make it not funny or else no one will laugh and you will make me look bad with you.

@@savagehalt1555 I have a uncle who makes all kind of "roasting" comments making fun of you but most of the time they are inappropriate and not funny and make you feel uncomfortable they even can feel at times as passive aggressive and, they are just annoying. This guy is like that lol and what is funny of that type of people is that when they are the object of a joke they are very sensitive and get easily angered. So I'd say it's a kind of character. And Trump was right, he has nothing to do there.

You know RDJ is upset when he gives that look… he made the same facial expression on that Channel 4 interview he walked out on nearly 10 years ago.
This was Sickening to watch. I’d rather hear Kimmel talk about his “hilarious” relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. RJD not only survived addiction and is thriving decades later, he’s got to tolerate a low life like Kimmel on a night like this. These jokes said more about Kimmel as a person than RJD as an actor.
Personally i dont feel anything watching this. If anything, Kimmel's only insulting himself, and everybody knows it. RDJ is a mega star and he's the bigger guy, so he knows that there's no need for him to be offended by such a small rat.

Hope Jimmy roasts Robert Downey Jr for not acknowledging Ke when he totally ignored him and took the award. Even when Ke tried a second time to give him the award envelope. So simple a few extra seconds of kindness is all it needed to acknowledge someone giving you an award.
OMG...Leave RDJ alone! He was obviously caught up in the excitement of the moment. I am sure he thanked Ke and got his envelope. And I actually think he enjoyed Kimmels roast. Kimmel was funny! And the joke was just to show how far RDJ has come. And I think RDJ appreciated that. There was no malice or insult intended. People are so sensitive and have no sense of humor, unlike RDJ and it was directed at him!!!

Personal opinion: I myself still find Kimmel a lot more funny and original than the vast majority of American award show hosts, since he has a very natural and relatable manner of presenting this prestigious four-hour-long show. Doesn't mean every punchline of his works in equal amount. This RDJ joke for example was a bit tasteless, but luckily, Iron Man knows how to handle some dark humor. After all, the man loves to drop a sarcastic joke himself every now and then. Bottom line, I can't think of a better host since Hugh Jackman in 2008, and probably wouldn't watch this exclusive club of politically based millionaires presenting each-other with golden statues if Kimmel didn't include an entertaining minute now and then, like dropping candy + cookies from the ceiling (#releasethecoffee) or conducting the Academy orchestra to play Matt Damon off the stage or this year's streaker tribute in combination with presenting best costume.
yeah. At least Kimmel can give bad jokes and be unapologetic about it. Most hosts especially new young ones, are too painful to watch, lack confidence, awkward, and tries so hard to be funny. Kimmel is not exactly the funniest guy, but at least he doesnt make it awkward.
