20:50 Madeleine actually mentions that she shot a man who entered her home as child in 'Spectre (2015)'. It's when they are on the train in the desert. Also in 'Spectre' Madeleine says she took the gun from under the sink, and in 'No Time to Die (2021)' that is what they show in the first sequence. The gun is shown when young Madeliene grabs something else from the cabinet, and after Safin proceeds to pursue young Madeliene, it pans to show the gun has been removed from its holder within the cabinet. I loved that we had all this detail previously told to us but it literally plays out the exact same. Cool stuff.

    • @carloscampo9119
      @carloscampo9119 3 года назад +4

Indeed, the whole initial sequence is a playback on one of the traumas we are told Madeleine suffered as a child in "Spectre". In Spectre, we are shown that Madeleine is a closed individual, distrustful of everyone, launched into a world of despair by her upbringing, and in that sense she mirrors Bond .
It's quite sad that "Spectre" is the weakest one of the Craig saga, if it had been much stronger it would have been a perfect background for "No Time To Die" and the whole 5-movie experience would have been truly masterful.

Yeah that was a great circle back to Spectre where and just shows how the Craig movies are all intertwined.

I didn't expect to agree with James on his rating, but Yes, this movie was so good. I loved it! A great emotional ending for my favorite Bond. This feels much closer to today, to normal, than the old "no stakes are real" version of the character. This is not just a movie, this is a 5 movie saga (Not perfect) where we see a character all the way from beginning to end. These movies are clearly meant to be binged together, with its lows and downs.
And I want Ana de Armas back. Like damn, I'm pretty sure the real CIA doesn't have an asset that gooooood on their payroll.

Thank you, David, for mentioning "Her Majesty's Secret Service". My heart was already pounding when James Bond told Madeleine, "We have all the time in the world." On one hand, it made me feel secure that the filmmakers knew what they were doing and from then on, basically they could blaspheme as much as they wanted, I was on their side. On the other hand, that was a foreboding sentence in the Bond-verse. Of course, one of the lovebirds was going to die, like Tracy did. And then came the Louis Armstrong song, I was giddily jumping up and down in my seat.
Another thing, guys, after Bond saw Mathilde, what Madeleine said was, "She's not yours." Not in the sense of, she was not his biological child, but more like, the daughter was HERS. She was her Mother and James Bond was the sperm donor at that point. From then on, he had to prove that he was good enough to be a real Father to be welcomed into the family.
It was facetious writing, but I thought (most of?) the women (and surely some of the men) in the audience got it. I also thought that that was the Phoebe Waller-Bridge influence. That particular sentence had a Fleabag-y flair.

How I understood it - the villain wanted everyone infected, so everyone would be like sheep and follow his orders, or die when they resist. That's what he tried explaining, people need oblivion from choices, basically need to be told what to do. Also he was selling this tech to others, so they would control their own "herds".

I don't necessarily think Blofeld's gene sequence wasn't in the spray that hit Bond in Cuba, I think it's just that they had to show Bond touch Madeleine's wrist for the sake of the slightly slow/inattentive audience members.

Nitpick I had was the EMP was strong enough to make the bionic eye literally explode... and about five seconds later in the same shot we see Bond still using his wireless digital earpiece to talk to Q. And like, a wireless radio would be much, MUCH more susceptible to EMP because it has antenna that inherently are exposed to the electromagnetic spectrum.

The James Bond barrel situation is definitely the barrel of the enemy that’s about to shoot bond and James gets the shot off first and kills them which is why the blood falls on the screen side, or at least in the newer DC movies. Haven’t watched the older ones to verify this theory.

It bothered me too. when I saw it I was like if she weighs less than him how come she fell in, and how could be standing almost where she was, AND pick her up from the ice water?? I will say I enjoyed the movie but it's like a 6 for me. There are so many scenes where someone stands out in the open and none of the 500 shots fired hit them, then a few seconds later cover is suddenly important again, annoyed the hell out of me. Bond can headshot 4 goons instantly but mosses the main villain with his first shot.....somehow
I was also missing some big in-movement action scene. The closest we got was on the motorbike there but I would have loved more.
Then there is the villain problem: Complete contradictions and suddenly at the end he infects Bond with the Nanobots for actually no reason other than "Fuck you, Bond" even though the only reason they were enemies to begin with was that the villain decided he wanted to be. Apparently this was more important than killing James Bond and doing whatever the hell his goal actually was. He could have just killed Bond with the Nanobots, but no.
The customers also don't make sense. What do they think they are buying? If they understand that a weapon of this scale is in the hands of a third party, why aren't they nuking that third party? Why do they even appear at all? They just disappear into irrelevancy 5 minutes after being mentioned, I don't think we even saw the boats.
Also the "No cure" thing was bullshit. Bond gets told there is no cure and just says "Ok, I guess I will doe now"? Not even an attempt?
Dude ain't 80, he'll live to see technology develop further

@@Mystikus2 It's a good scene, it just feels like it belongs in a different franchise.
Tbh I think that's true of a lot of the stuff they did in this film (and the whole run), like feeling like they need to serialise it all... For long term Bond fans, that's just jarring. And for all they were saying about how there's been a million episodic films, basically everything now is part of a narrative series of some sort. Like the episodic Bond formula was part of its identity.

I think Bond subconsciously knew Mathilde is his daughter, he just couldn't acknowledge because he had to do his job. I mean, it doesnt take much for Bond to connect the dots based on the eyes, the approx age, and no sign of another man who could be the father.

    Some spoilers of the movie:
Some things that I thought about it while listening to this episode... Do you guys think that maybe Daniel Craig's movies are actually their first try at a full arc James Bond? Even with Casino Royale bringing Judi Dench as M, there are a lot of new versions like Felix, Moneypenny, Q and Blofeld, I don't remember much reference about other movies, other than nods, like the DB5 car, but even that is not aknowledge as something already seen, so it's just to the viewer... Also, I took Madeline's line of "she's not your daughter", as a "you can't come here after 5 years and want to be a family...", and at the end she's not finally admitting she was his daughter, but that he could be her father after that

The end sucked lol I was rolling my eyes the entire sappy ending. And Rami Malek's villain was a big nothing burger, such an anticlimactic ending to his villain.
