Fun fact - the scene when ellie and sandy are switching while dancing is completely practical and not hidden cuts. Its in one of the behind the scenes videos
Thought it was masterfully done by Edgar Wright. The script itself is... good enough, but the style elevates the film a whole lot in my opinion. Not a fan of the twist at the end though I really enjoyed the rest. Thomasin McKenzie is going to be a huge star soon - she's so good here!
"the style elevates the film a whole lot" yea the style that I see dead girl from 60s in my dream so the cliche seeing that dead girl in class and freaking out scene, sex getting interrupted by dead girl cliche , and much more which im too lazy to mention here so stop being a fanboy see this movie as it is. Bet ya that if this movie had some rando director and not Edgar Wight no one will say "the style elevates the film a whole lot"
@@RaphyLiveTrue, because he said the style, not the tropes. Another Director would'nt be capable of shooting the same stuff in the same way after all..
What I love about these videos is how often the start is like “S’pose this was ok” and then an hour discussing how effective the scripts, nuances, twists, complexities, subtext, visuals are and seeing your excitement and wonder about all the stuff that was “just ok”. Love it.
I loved how when Elly was looking through the newspapers at the library, we see a bunch of murder victims. We think nothing of them, because she's (and we're) looking for Sandie's murder article. Those were probably Sandie's murder victims.
One of the lines thar stuck with me was when Ellie's grandmother said in the beginning that she has a gift... And then adds "of empathy". It helped contextualise a lot of what happens, as to why see her mother or the other ghost.
Edgar Wright has been one of my favorite directors for some time. I look forward to anything he works on. Even if I don't fall for something he does, to date, I've appreciated all of his work (from Spaced on). Can't wait to see this - finally!
I think the bedroom itself was kind of a portal in a way because even older Sandy saw the ghosts at the end and we thought Ellie was the only one seeing ghosts. Older Sandy even said her prior renter left randomly and I think that was a hint that the previous renter was scared out of the room because they also saw the ghosts.
Cannot disagree more about Terence Stamp. Despite his character being so underwritten, he absolutely chewed the scenery. Every scene he appears in is just a masterclass in minimalist menace
It's that East End gangster vibe (that the police shared to be fair, many of them were as corrupt as hell). I think there's also hints of one of the stereotypes of people that drink in Soho, which is of the older gay guy who treats everyone he knows like they've been his best friend for decades - an Ian McKellen kind of character (lots of theatre types around, and Soho has had a very big gay scene for decades). That kind of intimacy and openness towards a younger woman can be taken completely the wrong way when it comes from a man rather than a older woman.
What does Eloise have? She doesn't just "see dead people", as at least 2 notable characters are in both time periods. So, how is she viewing the past through the eyes of someone who is still very much alive, while also seeing the Johnny Knockers and her mom in mirrors? What would such a gift be called, and I'm finding it hard to buy that her mom did not have it as well, considering her tragic circumstances and stay in London. Could that in itself be grist for a sequel? Also, the tea didn't slow Ellie down very much when John was in trouble. One minute, she's in mortal peril, the next, he whatevs. She was shown drinking at least half of it before dropping the cup. I also thought she could have had a moment with her landlady explaining her dreams/gift and the landlady's reaction, undoubtedly trying to hide her shock before the climax. Finally, how did she not get expelled after the Scissors incident with Jocasta in the library? Not to even get me started on the whole false murder dream and that "...from a certain point of view" excuse Diane Rigg offered. I felt that was kind of dishonest storytelling and I'm not alone on that point. Still loved the cast, the look and sound of it all, just thought it could have been tightened up a bit during it's c19 mothballing.
The “SoHo” comment about LA cracked me up. Yes, there’s a SoHo in LA (South Hollywood). Although I don’t think I’ve personally called it that since living here, but it exists!
ya soho in LA is short form for SOuth HOllywood, new york soho is SOuth of HOuston, and Tampa is SOuth HOward. Basically America used it for street names and from what i've learned is the london soho got it's name from a hunting cry they used to call back dogs. But the real SOHO i'd consider SOHO is the one in London.
My biggest gripes How did she not get expelled from school for almost killing the Jocasta in the library If she has her power to see the past why did she not see it correctly? In regards to jack killing sandy not the other way around. Was it because that’s what she wanted to see? Did she see what she wanted to see and not what was reality?
I definitely did not enjoy this film. It just didn’t feel like a horror, nor a phycological thriller. It just felt like a trippy sifi murder movie with a twist… but I definitely never felt uneasy like I did with Sicario, or as freaked out as I did with the Haunting of Hill House.
For me it was a very confusing movie. The horror centered around mental health/fear of seeing something others don't to me than anything else, which I didn't find particularly scary. I didn't like it but I can see why some people really enjoyed the movie.
Loved all the earlier 60's scenes. Incredible visuals and technical shots. Pretty much everything else was 💩 from the acting to the late plot. I also guesse the main twist the moment that character came on screen. Even thought to myself "but that would be dumb" straight after... So that bummed me out Which pains me to say, as a massive fan of both Edgar Wright and Chung Chung-Hoon. 6/10
David can't grasp that Tesla could have had an invention that is out of this world in the prestige, but, is perfectly fine with ghost vision fortune telling? Tsk tsk David, 7.5/10 still great.
never saw this coming ? Yea cuz the Director straight up lied by showing fake murder and those cliche scares thats been done 100s of times. IDC if Edgar made good movies in the past I call this guy a piece of shit pretentious of a film maker for lying. Haven't seen any other film maker do that. And these 3 fanboy giving 7/10 , 8/10 cuz they wanna please their audience who are Fanboys of Edgar Wight
This movie fucking sucked lmao. Can Edgar Wright not make a good movie without Simon Pegg? Idk, but it's starting to seem that way. Ellie was unbearable, the nostalgia wanking was cringe as hell, especially considering the main theme of the movie is anti-nostalgia, I didn't care about a single character in the movie, the twist was predictable and extremely cheesy, and I was never scared for even an instant. Truly disliked it, even though I had high hopes as a huge Wright fan and a huge Anya Taylor Joy fan. 4/10

She was excellent in JoJo Rabbit too!
She's already a star?

Not being snarky, genuine enjoyment.

48:44 there isn't any cutting in the dance scene! Anya and Thomasin are ducking and weaving in and out of frame
Soundtrack was phenomenal, the ending was not what I
Expected

I don't get why people hate Baby Driver...it is my AT favourite movie
How I never heard about this channel, watching pretty much every LTT video everyday?
They were called carpool critics for the most time.
This film fell apart towards the end. Really disappointing 5-6/10

Do Gattaca at some point.
Is there somewhere that i can check what the next movie will be without coming and watching part of the episode?
