It isn't Hardwire it's Wireless. Morpheus when he is giving Neo the introductions to the crew says something about broadcasting a pirate signal and hacking in to the Matrix. However you are correct that they have to get with in range, cause in the end of the Eating scene, Morpheus instructs Dozer to bring the ship up to Broadcast depth.
@@crowaust it has been a while since I have seen the movies, but I thought when he was talking about broadcast depth, he was referring to communicating between other ships and also to Zion. Not connecting to the Matrix.
My major issue is that the power scale in The Matrix 2 just ends up feeling so much more like a "Superhero" film, whereas the Original felt more "Kung-fu/Cyberpunk". The original also just felt so well earned once you finally got to the epic scenes, but even then knows how to have restraint in order to then be able to have an even more dramatic "Phoenix rising from the ashes" moment (Epitomized by the bullet dodging and pausing the bullets mid flight respectively).
you two handled it very well. it was actually kinda refreshing having you too have more space to share, sometimes too many people gets overwhelming. edit: oh I hope david is ok.
You guys totally should do Constantine. It was my favorite movie growing up and I recently watched it and it still holds up to this day, I think it’s one of the most underrated movie ever!
When watching them for the very first time, the first movie is far superior. When it comes to watching them additional times, the second movie really shines over the first
it doesn't shine OVER the first, it shines for different reasons. Matrix 1 is just peak movie. It has it all. The message, the narration, the visuals and the action. It just kills it in every way, it's my "that's a 10" movie. Matrix 2 has probably the best action scenes of every movie, ever. The Neo staircase fight is legendary, every stunt was so damn well coordinated it gives fight choreographers a stiffy just thinking about it. But the plot while interesting is not as polished, it feels kinda mediocre at times, and worst of all it suffers from the early days of CGI. There were some crazy CGI scenes that looked bad even back in the days, and they've aged horribly today. Matrix 1? The effects haven't aged at all. The lobby scene is timeless, the slowmo bullet dodge 360 still makes you go "woah" today. But yeah for some reason at the time I liked 3 over 2. It's because I hated the first moments of 2 I think, the rave party at Zion was so cheesy, I just didn't enjoy it. Looking at them again, 2 is clearly the superior movie.
I like how they set up the Architect from the get go in the first film. At the start of the scene following Neo getting arrested by the agents and Trinity driving off in her motorcycle, we see multiple screens looking at Neo awaiting to be interrogated. We then see those same screens again when Neo walks into The Source in Reloaded. The Architect has been watching the entire time. 🤯 As for the much disliked rave scene in Zion, I always took it as symbolic for connection. Throughout the first and second film, up to that point we see all sorts of ways they connect to things, mostly connecting to machines. The rave/sex scene shows a different type of connection that we hadn't seen yet: how humans connect with each other, in a way where that type of connection helps relieve much of the strain and stress they constantly endure trying to survive in literally fighting the system. Everyone dancing is basically the equivalent to Neo and Trinity "dancing", so they kind of mirror each other in a way. It furthers the line delivered by Mouse in the first one: "To deny our own impulses is to deny the very thing that makes us human."
@@TheyreJustMovies Good question. I'm thinking it probably started as a small idea, planting a seed of "someone" watching the whole thing unfold, which would then be embellished in a subsequent sequel if the first one did well. This movie doesn't really seem like it would have throwaway moments, so it was definitely purposeful. Whether they already had the Architect character fully fleshed out from the beginning or not, I think will remain a mystery. 🤔
I really agreed with James that Reloaded gives you almost all the things you want from a sequel. Reloaded has some issues, but one thing I also really like about it, is that it fills a lot of things that seem like plot holes in the first. Lots of things from the first movie just don't make a ton of sense if you think about them too hard. How do the machines not know when people are unplugged? Do they really have no system for detecting that? Why do the agents in the matrix not have more power? Why don't they have the ability to just immediately surround people in brick if they find them like they did the building? Why do the machines not find Zion and destroy it? So much of this is explained when you realize that it is all another system of control that the machines are using to weed out humans who won't accept the Matrix. All of a sudden, so much of the machines apparent inability to counter Zion makes sense. They are purposely letting it grow. I think it is a great example of having a twist that deepens the lore and expands the world, without totally messing up what came before. It is also on theme, because it is another moment that develops the theme from the first movie about the world not being what it first appears.
This episode was so much better without David's constant pseudo intellectual ramblings echoing the general consensus of typical below average video essay RUclipsrs. Seems like the perfect time to find the third amigo for the pod. Love James and Riley !
That’s good to hear James. I’ve been scared to watch reloaded because I knew I would hate it now. But I loved it as a kid. You’ve convinced me to watch it again. I was even thinking before that I should watch it again since I would understand the architect.
42:49 Many have speculated that the Merovingian had a role like the Oracle in previous versions of the Matrix. The Oracle created the system of choice that resulted in fewer people rejecting the Matrix than the system of Cause and Effect the Merovingian had before her time.

The car chase expands on the lore too. The first movie establishes the worst place to be on foot is Chinatown because it's so crowded. Now, they're driving and the worst place is the freeway. Crowded plus half to 2 ton weapons.
Hiya, popping over from the LOTR reviews. I really enjoyed the whole Matrix trilogy. I appreciate that, a bit like Alien and Aliens, the first two Matrixes... Matrices... Matrix movies (?), felt like a genre shift. They were never going to get the same feelings as the mystery of the first movie and I was all in for seeing a powered up Neo! This movie tickles my power fantasy buttons and I love the multi-Smith-verse. Easily 8 / 10 for me, possibly 8.5. Love the discussions, keep up the good work.
Here's something that's gonna blow your mind. The cg in the Burly Brawl are on purpose. The evidence comes from the scene with Trinity jumping thru the window is 100% cg. There's a lot of shots like that. They were ACTUALLY capable of doing full cg people, it was left not to keep developing it to simulate LOD reduction when there's too much going on.
Many theories suggest that the Merovingian will have a central role in Matrix 4. So maybe he has a special ability, it's just not revealed yet. And he reincarnated at least as many times as Neo.
I don’t know if you guys ever plan on watching it, but Arcane is out in full and I really liked it. The splinter in the mind thing, and rejecting the reality of the matrix is just an allegory for being in denial about the reality of yourself. Which makes a lot of sense, given the LGBT status of the Wachowksi sisters. At first you might be unaware of your identity, but the pain of the splinter grows if you can't keep up the denial and you have to "wake up". And then the choice at the end of reloaded could just be an allegory for making the choice to transition. Are you going to conform to the system and act in opposition to your identity and perpetuate a cycle of denial? Will you choose survival over freedom and happiness? Or are you going to risk the complete upheaval of your life and potentially the lives of those around you to pursue what your identity? You could argue that the machines are just the stand in for the patriarchy and the power it exerts over people, and humanity is just a stand in for someone struggling to come to terms with their denial of their identity and then choosing how to act on those feelings in the face of external societal pressure. And all the different factions are the different facets of ones identity, either created by some external pressure, or some internal need or desire. All acting in conflict to decide who someone truly is.
btw the matrix still doesn't make sense because why rebuild Xion at all? you don't need it at all, you can just have 100% of humans be in the vat within the matrix
3 is definitely the worst. Just a long wait for what we really wanted to see...giant mech armor battle against ai robot killing machines. That should have been at least 50% of the movie.
Confusion, contrivance, vagueness are words used throughout this review, yet still 8.9? If I weren't so lazy, I'd dig out some of James' previous ratings, and point 'Really, better than THAT?'. Just a sidenote, Blue Man Group has 3 people for a reason. I could easily take a one week break, just so that David's there, too, regardless of how annoying he can be sometimes.
Matrix 2 was incredible, watched it in IMAX more than once when it came out. I was fully convinced that Zion was still in a matrix. The psychic kid giving Neo the spoons, that agent Smith was able take over a human, then at the end when Neo shocked the squiddies by shooting lightning from his hands. Was so excited about part 3 only to be let down. It was so bad that it actually ruined part two.
I think you're missing a bit of the plot with the Architect complaints; he is a pure machine, the architect of the Matrix. That he's a pompous blowhard that only speaks in bombastic words is the entire point. He's not just 'some guy,' and so he doesn't speak like one.
What i think Neo did was realize that the machines need humans like humans need the machines, so he called their bluff. Fine, kill us all, see how far that gets you since your entire purpose is studying us 😂.
A lot of fans enjoyed Reloaded and were disappointed by Revolutions massively. Fans argue about the quality of Matrix 2, but most agree that Matrix 3 is lackluster.
This idea that there is no diversity in films, tv, or video games until recently is manufactured by hate mongers that want to see racism survive! Black Panther is NOT the first black superhero movie ever made! Ever heard of Blade? We have had female leads forever! Wizard of Oz was a female lead movie, made back in the 30s. Metroid is a female lead franchise, by Samus! You want to see pandering? Go play a recently made Assassin's Creed game. Oh you can choose to be a male or female, but they intended it to be played as the female. Wanna know how realistic it was for a boat full of Viking men to be lead by a female back in the day? Not at all! In Origins the creators of the game admitted to placing female NPCs throughout the world in roles that they could never hold in society back then, just to pander to the females of today.
They ships are traveling to locations where they can hardwire in the Matrix. This is established in the 1st movie.
It isn't Hardwire it's Wireless. Morpheus when he is giving Neo the introductions to the crew says something about broadcasting a pirate signal and hacking in to the Matrix. However you are correct that they have to get with in range, cause in the end of the Eating scene, Morpheus instructs Dozer to bring the ship up to Broadcast depth.

that's interesting, so it's not just about using humans as a power source.
cmon, black trenchcoats ar still cool...

A lot of fans enjoyed Reloaded and were disappointed by Revolutions massively. Fans argue about the quality of Matrix 2, but most agree that Matrix 3 is lackluster.
As an adult, I like Reloaded more than the original.
Matrix 2 actually good? Say sike right now!
based as fuck james
trench coats>k pop
I disliked 2. Flat meandering with horribly clichéd characters. 4/10.
Finally an episode without the contrarian.
Edit: I guess left guy fullfills that purpose this episde.

@@TheyreJustMovies For you guys, i'll entertain your arguments ;) but as for being convinced by them...
/sigh do your fucking homework riley!
Yeah one 100 comments yes!!!!
