Don’t waste your time watching if you’re hoping to see inside. All they talk about is fuel tanks and tires. Eight months later, there is still NO part 2.
Thx
Too late to see this comment 😕
Thanks you are my hero now .
I had a sinking feeling this might be the case, this is why i did a fast forward just to see.
What a waste of vieings.
seriously.
While in the military my mos was 88 Mike .. transportation ... while in advanced individual training I signed up for an extender course on the hemmtt.. 3 addition weeks .. most fun I ever had in there .. sitting in Missouri clay /mud pit could barely see the very tops of the tires. I was waiting for the clear to come out onto the road as another convoy was passing thru I released my foot off the brake and at idle the beast began crawling forward .. we left there and took a river ford .. our trucks was equipped with the fording kit .. water was up on the side of the windows .. my battle buddy was a Navajo Indian and was making movements like he was paddling a canoe .. little did we know they had camera equipment with zoom lenses filming us and when we got back to class they showed us the videos .. instructors where even laughing so hard they had to stop and catch their breath .. awesome memories that will last a lifetime ..
Thumbs down for cutting the video as you walk up inside. Lame.
same, wtf kinda video is this?
@T Wilson they guy asked *if they want to come inside*, if he was that worried he wouldn't have asked them to come inside. Nor would he update their GPS location on their website.
It does say to be continued
Maybe his husband was in the shower
Having had the privilege of driving the HEMTT in the M1120 LHS configuration a fair amount, they're a real treat to operate. The A2 variant is a workhorse with the Detroit motor and 6-speed Allison, and felt good under heavy load, but it was a little slow to accelerate and boy howdy was the cab hot, loud and super cramped. The A4, on the other hand, was a beauty, a bonnie and a joy forever. The 6 cylinder CAT had a lot more get-up-and-go, the cab is so much quieter, has air conditioning and room enough for a couple bags and a cooler.
There's really no way to describe the joy of becoming proficient with that vehicle. Eschewing all of the doctrinal safety business for a bit, being able to snatch a loaded flatrack and set it back down exactly where you want it to go, without anyone ever having to dismount, is immensely satisfying.
Come on I came here to see the Hemtt Not a whole video on the people. I felt kind of bummed when I didn’t get to see more of the truck.
If I had known there was a second part that wasn't even uploaded, I wouldn't have wasted my time watching this
the 8x8 monster is 100x more interesting than anything in the motorhome
Same. It's a cool vehicle but why even bother with the to be continued?
I'll have to show this to my daughter. She spent a year driving a HEMTT wrecker all over Iraq in the Army. I was disappointed you didn't show the inside of the camper.
Bill Hunter Did you watch till the end? The inside will be in part 2.
Robert Scott and cant find part 2 a month later. Maybe they forgot to upload it...or I’m blind.
Its now 6 months later, still no part 2.
Robert Scott hey I’m still waiting. I watched till the end. Guess I’ll just jump off a bridge now later
I drove the bridge hauler version of this.
I’m a motor transport operator in the Marine Corps and we use LVSR’s which are even bigger than the LVS (that’s what the army calls this truck in the video). But the LVSR has 10 wheels on it and the first and second axle wheels turn and the 4th and 5th axle turns as well. Also the reason these trucks don’t have locks on the doors is because we wouldn’t take these trucks into war with us, we have armored versions of these trucks that you can lock from the inside of the cab so no one can get in.
As intimidating as this vehicle is, it’s probably one of the best to work on because being a military vehicle it is designed to be repaired by pissed off 18 year olds who need to get it fixed fast in a combat environment.
When I was in the Marines my trained profession was driving the LVS version. The LVS version actually bends in the middle and allows the vehicle to turn around in unbelievably small areas.
The creativity of some folks is pretty amazing.
Money. EU, London. They got they, should enjoy it.
I had an acquaintance that had the first privately owned HEMTT in the US. Back when he purchased the truck, they were a restricted item, which meant that the truck was de-milled to government standard. It was a work of love doing a full restoration.
There are three major problems with the truck though. First is the transmission used on early models didn't provide an overdrive gear, and secondly, the 8V92 Detroit (DripTroit) engine loves it's fuel and oil, averaging less than 5 miles per gallon, third, the truck rides very rough. This isn't so much an problem, but more a concern, Oshkosh Defense doesn't like to sell parts to civilians, so you get stuck purchasing from military surplus dealers.
You have to install air conditioning, sound suppression and need windows in the lower portion of the doors and slanted floor to see what's around you. A lot of the floor windows are broken and it's pain to remove the brush guard to replace them.
Where is part 2 of this video? i'd love to see the inside :)
There isn't one. They bagged out on it apparently.
Durable, decent off road capabilities, surprisingly easy to drive from what I remember in this truck's original Army configurations. These trucks played a big role for resupply and refueling during the Gulf War for the liberation of Kuwait. Very cool conversion
I also love how he didn’t put a link to there Instagram but he put one for him
"burning man". . . . lol, knew it.
I was around those quite a bit in the military we called them Dragon wagons!! Really cool to put a toy hauler on the chassis!! Can’t wait to see the inside!!👍🏻👍🏻thanks for sharing.
close, but the true "Dragon Wagons" are the prime movers for Tank transports, (HET) Heavy Equipment Transport
the way the girl dotes on him i just need that, correction, EVERYONE NEEDS THAT lovely.
Truck builds the best for the military!!!!!!!! Wisconsin Proud !!!!!!
seen more then a few of them on the W-41 and other roads living near RIpon as i do
Proud to be from Wisconsin too!
My dad used to deliver these things driving them on the highway back in the day
Proud to build these everyday!
Next time you're doing a "tour" allow the person to speak and do the tour!
I love these types of rigs! Keep it up Cody! You guys are having so much fun on your trip👍❤️
Gotta tell you , I need one of those.
HEMET!! The first time I saw one as a child was near Dinky Creek California in the 70s, owned by the Forest Service. I've loved them ever since.
Not sure about that. I saw 2 prototypes at the plant in 77, they didn't have a contract for prototypes till 82, first deliveries were 83 as I recall.
Weight limit on that winch should be 80,000 if I’m not mistaken
Cough.
Negative self recover is 15k
@Al Burkholder what model is that?
The major draw back is they are bouncy as hell on the highway!
@@slojogojo2766 well the a4 with air ride solved that. But yeah the padded roof and 4 point seat belt is their for a reason
Transit looks tame after this 🤔
Nice. Looking forward to seeing the interior layout.
When I worked as a civilian contractor I did several complete services on those ... they are a blast to drive !!! The PLS is even bigger and more fun to drive with the rear steering
Now that is friggin ' cool! Forget the school bus thing, I want one of them!
That thing is awesome!👍🏻🇺🇸👍🏻🇺🇸
I'm pretty sure I saw this rig parked in front of the murdocs in bozeman Montana a few days ago
I've been thinking of uses for one of these for ages. This is awesome!
I'm glad I stopped by, cool truck!
Never thought I'd see a man bun involved with an Oshkosh.... Super glad.
I want to see part 2 with the inside. What a tease…
OMG that's my dream RV. I can't believe you met the owners!
This was really interesting. Post the video of the interior quickly! Csn’t wait to see what they have done. What does this guy do for a livelihood?
I'm looking forward to seeing the next iteration!
Wow ! That is a giant military truck converted into a motor house ! Crazy ! Massive tires too ! Thanks !
You need to power that thing with an rtg reactor, so that you'll never have to refuel
What the hell is that?
Dee Holland a nuclear reactor
"We get the tires from the military with 90% life left" What I'm hearing here is "The Defense budget needs to be cut to stop the military from wasting money to justify their budget"
Yeah right they barely get the funds for parts
Maybe they should stop throwing away good tires then
@@Allurade they dont.. the 90 percent thing is a myth
@Al Burkholder never seen tires get swapped out unless its dry rotted or cracked
@UCT4Lx38RtZa9OVhBu8QlnUA no thanks spent enough time their as it is
We have been looking at the 8x8 Oshkosh Hemtt for a while. It is a cool vehicle. Plan B Supply makes RVs out of them.
What does a rig like that cost to buy and operate?
Amazing!! Thanks Cody
That's an incredible overland vehicle! Would not wanna see the bill to fill up but looks like a real fun ride. :)
Amazing vid. thanks for letting us know!!!
I drove one of those when I was a young Soldier. Our variant was the ammunition hauler. They are fun to drive but no air conditioning in the cab in the summer was brutal with those huge front windows.
Seen a lot of MAN KAT overlanders so I was looking around if someone was crazy enough to convert TATRA 8x8 Kolos (or bigger models) to motorhome / post-apo zombie camper, but ended up here. Have to agree that truck is properly mad for that purpose and whatever he packed (and unfortunately we haven't seen) into the camper part, there will be no problem for the truck to carry it, unless you end up in some quick sand, deep slicky mud or vertical wall.
Makes the LED bar look tiny.😀
That thing is awesome
Man id love to own one of those.
How did I miss bumping into you at NWOR last month? It was my first one, will NOT be my last one. Great folks everywhere, fantastic group of vendors. The weather was perfect.
I love the two part video!!!!! Such a nice day to be outside! Lol
beautiful Hemmt I always kept my hemmt wrecker clean too
That's awesome, I hope you did a video of the inside!
I always wonder if someone would make an overland with HEMTT. They are great vehicles. They move out on the highway unlike most military vehicles.
Yes hello! Hey so where's the next part to this? Lol I'd really like to check it out lol.
What ever happened to the well digging project?
With your sentiment about well
I enjoyed driving the one I was assigned. I drove in plenty of city traffic too. Denver to CO Springs an back a few time.
Ive worked on himmits , love um. 8v92 Detroit puts out 550hp relatively depending on the year. They can be turned up quite a bit.
most excellent. thanks Wranglerstars :)
Did you ever do a part 2 of this video which showcased the interior?
This is freakin insane. I love this!
I love watching your videos especially when they are filmed so close to home I actually live in the same town as her father and am going to be turning a hemtt into a wildland brush truck at work they are awesome
Wow what an awesome truck and a cool dude, Thanks Cody
Wow, this looks so cool! Please upload the interior. I wish they had a RUclips channel of their adventures (I looked, they don't').
The suspense of going inside is killing me!!!!
Coolest motor home I’ve seen yet!
That is an awesome rig. I keep tryong to convince the wife to pull the trigger on something like this.
So cool! I’m going to start “buttering up my sweet lady” and maybe I may get lucky too lol!!!
we had these in my tank unit to haul ammo. that's one hell of a truck.
That thing is insane!! Thanks for showing us Cody! I want one now 👍
If there's a part-2 of this video, were can I watch it at ?
Love those retractable steps.
i love how you both called it "confused"
Jesus... Would hate to fill that thing with gas. The wait would take half an hour.
I'd hate to see you do it too since gasoline would kill the motor. Also, the pumps in truck stops have a higher GPM rating than the ones for your car.
Diesel pumps at truck stops are ridiculously fast. That tank would probably fill up before your typical pickup at a regular fuel station
It will fill at a truck stop pump in about 6min.
Such a cliff hanger!
My local airport just got three new 🔥 trucks by Oshkosh and got to drive one. Quite intimidating, but once inside incredibly nimble.
Nice video. I work for Oshkosh.
i legit thought Pontius went off grid like weeman did
I was also at the rally. I thought you looked familiar.
I drove a HEMTT for 12 years in the Army and pulled Patriot launchers all over Israel, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Fort Bliss,TX.
Awesome machine!!
James Massie
I was in Patriot and I drove the HENTT Wrecker also in the same locations.
5/7 ADA in Germany and D 5/52 at Fort Bliss
James Massie
C 1/43 Bliss
D 6/43 Ansbach renamed 6/52
James Massie
My unit would have been C 6/52 at Bliss
Oh man Oshkosh HEMETT, 8x8, one of the biggest toy man can have on earth. Just knew that have to rebuild the entire driver cabin to fit civilian use(lock and sound prof system has to be enhanced).
Great video!
Where is part 2 with the inside of the camper?
hay saw that in KALISPELL Montana in by the brass tap
You almost panned past my camp spot there! I'm kinda sad I missed you guys, didn't know you went to the overland rally lol
I can't blame them for not knowing better, but just to clarify a couple of things...that winch absolutely has a max rating, they just need to find the proper manual. Military vehicles DO come with door locks in many instances. Just because theirs didn't doesn't make it the standard for every other vehicle.
I see that people still refer to a tire shop as Les Schwab. I worked there in the early 2000's. Great place to work and get your car worked on! I also had the pleasure of meeting Les Schwab.
I worked there too for a year, had mixed feelings since they hired you part time so you got no benefits but worked you full time. That company is stuck in the past. Reasons why you don't see many locations with many employees anymore. I enjoyed helping people coming in and establishing relationships, even the person who needed a minor issue fixed so they would consider returning and buying tires but management only cared entirely about sales and not customer relationships.
@@oregonnich That's sad to hear. I wonder if it went that way after Les Schwab died? I worked at the one in downtown Portland and it was a job I'll never forget. Taught me the right way to do sales instead of just pushing the most expensive tire. I made some great friends there!
Totally cool! Did he show you the rocket launcher inside? lol
You will see those in the 2nd part :D
I'm with everybody else: Why no part 2 showcasing the inside? It says to be continued at the end.
GREAT video!
Now I feel fairly modest playing with the idea of a 5 ton for overlanding .
That's the most high speed operator I've seen!
You gotta get some reflective tap on that ICC bar
No video of the interior, what happenned in there?.
Remember they talked about fitting the doors with locks? They don't want to attract too much attention to stuff they have inside; the Burning Man festival might attract burglars who watch youtube too!😀
Unbelievably cool vehicle!
Should have said made for city kids to drive. Because farm.kids usually start driving at 10 with a clutch.
FYI: Iveco is italian and they make wonderful overlanding and extreme off-road vehicles.
So...this rig was for sale in 2013 for 186K, by a couple that had done their traveling adventure in it. Would have been a more impressive story if these were the people that built it.
I always thought about turning a HEMMT into a camper.
Funny, I just saw this vehicle in Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho yesterday.
