Amazing machine. One of those would be my ultimate overland vehicle. It must be worrying to be "almost" stuck in one of those - it's not as if there's anything bigger that could come and pull you out. Fabulous to see it just keep on going until it was free again. I guess from the other comments that that section is famously difficult to traverse in anything. I wonder how something like a Hagglund would manage there. Out of interest, would wetting the sand have made a positive or negative difference? Lastly, why were the wheels jerking when it was pulling through the powder-sand? The engine was constantly roaring so must have been consistently turning.
That jerking is as a result of torque build up through all the transmission components. Driving on the sand is always far far easier after rain. Ngkarla Rocks is notorious for having light fluffy sand. People always get bogged there. This truck got very bogged over the calm side of the Island on his next trip up there. Brad H the sweet sweet sound of a 16v71
@@jackelracer593 ain't a 16v71
8V92T. As far as noise goes, the HEMTT is probably the 2nd easiest military vehicle on the ears after the humvee. The engine is behind you and there’s a decent amount of foam insulation in the cab.
Why is he entering the Ngkala track from the side, just going to collapse the edge, track washes away and then nobody will be able to get through there, and what's with the light tower?
Yep look over the rocks those tires are rock hard
@philbox4566 Your 8x8 is impressive! What are you using for the headlamp strobe effect? I am searching for a solution and unsure of how to obtain this functionality.
This is most likely due to the frame rate of the camera recording and isn’t actually a strobe mechanism
It probably uses more fuel than the barge. What was the backup plan if it got stuck?
Back up plan is tow him with a couple of the Unimogs that we had along for the trip. We also had some mechanics who were familiar with the truck who sorted out the air valve issue with a work around.
@@philbox4566 how wuld you even get the tires off and onto the roof of that thing they problably weigh around 150kgs each
@@thetouringprepper8681 He uses the onboard crane. Easy peasy. ;)

2 stroke gm and walking beams front and rear, what a nightmare😁
That 2stroke Detroit is the star of the show. And they are quite durable
It would ride like a billy-cart. And use more fuel than the ferry, hahaha
bruce poole but it would get you there
@@mickysteiner8359 I owned a ATKINSON back in the day with a 8v92TA. It was a v8 oil pump, check the fuel and fill up the oil, hahaha. smooth motor but no torque compared to a CUMMINS or a CAT.
bruce poole I’m used to the 8v92t that has the mods for the military myself
10:06 😂😂😂😂😂 The spotter is acting like the truck is driving off the side of Mt Everest hahahaha
Did it in a Landie with Holden six engine 😁 good times
Sounds like a raggedy detroit diesel, it's no wonder it's stuck
They do wonders for the hearing aid industry.
Cant imagine the fuel cost alone for this video on the 8x8
Tide came about half way up the diffs. Took a 4wd large tow truck and a Unimog as well as near on a days work to get him unbogged. He sold it soon after.
@@philbox4566 Thanks for the reply. Seems it is a bit of a disappointment then. I really would have thought it would have fared better than the 4-wheelers but I guess ultimately it's weight was just too much for soft ground?
@@NigelMarston No one in their right mind should ever drive a vehicle in some of that bottomless gumbo mud over on the Hervey Bay side of Fraser Island. Thin smear of sand over the top of the slick jelly. Anything including a 4 wheeler would get stuck there. Oh yes, down in Brisbane the airport which is close to Moreton Bay undertook a study on how they could get to a downed aircraft on the mud flats. Turns out short of a hovercraft everyone was gunna die. Sometimes the terrain dictates that you just don't go there. Offroad vehicles can get you into more trouble than they get you out of. :)
have any videos of the white unimog?
cool truck but you see the soft coffee rock crumble under the heavy Tyres and weight of the vehicle it does a lot of unnecessary damage to it.... :-(
Too dumb to not press the button to lower the pressure, because it is automatic in four modes!
An 8X8 truck does less damage than a 4X4 toyota!
ruclips.net/video/9ekbEM3S4QA/видео.html
André definitely not Mate Coffee Rock is no rock but plant material and the weight of the 8x8 does far more damage
@@AlloffroadAu The 8X8's weight distribution with these big and wide tires on the ground is less than the weight of a 4X4 toyota. This asshole should have lowered the tire pressure, with those wheels (beadlocks) can almost drive without having air in the tires. this idiot, it's no different than the idiots with a toyota that lets the wheels spin, right? the drivers of the Unimogs, are not smarter! It's thanks to idiots like these, that every day new trails are closed ...
@@AlloffroadAu A 8X8 with the correct pressure, until smooth the ground, making it easier for the next vehicle, of course everything has its limits, the best equipment remains the brain! Many do not have it, and take caravans to cross the Simpson desert, canning stock route, etc. An 8X8 pass without difficulty, I already did with a MAN KAT1 6X6. Is the recovery vehicle in Birdsville not an MAN KAT 1 4X4? Does Fraser Island not have 4X4 trucks for recovery?
This video proves my little jimny with a fked motor is still as capable as an 8x8 and mine only cost $500 instead of 1million..
That 8x8 isnt nearly a million, and the difference is it carries 2 of you jimnys, as well as wades deeper. Nothing against jimnys, but you just cant compare them, compare to lada
Awesome 8x8 off-reader, not-so-awesome driver. Tyres at full pressure don’t give much traction in dry sand
Nailed it.
This is a monster !!!
shouldn't be allowed on the island. too much damage! and what if it breaks down, how is this supposed to be towed? also, imagine driving your regular 4x4 and getting held up by an 8x8 just because the driver doesn't care about tyre pressure
I was just about to comment about tyre pressure and read your comment... you're bang on with what you've said
I have been too Fraser Island since early 95, by the looks of things I won't be going anytime soon. Looks like it's way to crowded.
@@aarronlane8809 Bunch of wankers trying to prove they don't have tiny peckers!!

What the fuck are you on about the guy literally didn’t spin a tire he was most relaxed off road trail I’ve ever seen done all in low gear with out ever strait in his equipment and it literally dug down less than 8 inches in sand yeah he could of aired his tires down for the sand then aired em back up to go over the rocks this isn’t a shitty fucking busted hilux wannabe with a brushgaurd with a whip Antananarivo like your used to that trucks tires weigh more than anything you’ve ever driven most likely .
I just thank god I’m an American you wanker ass aussies are the bitchiest bunch of excuse for manly men nowdays. No guns and a popular vehicle is a Ute... fuck that horse shit.
Too big...too heavy...too destructive....shouldn’t let it on that beautiful island!
NO! Too idiot!
amazing. Liked & Subcribed!!!
Is the right-hand drive cab conversion directly from Oshkosh or was it done custom by another company?
I saw that too. All the ones I've worked on were left hand drive
More money than brains.
Too big pressure in tires. Rich guy, beautiful truck, but zero knowledge how to drive.
In Australia we say. All the gear no idea
🤣
Thought the same after some seconds of the video. 🤦🏻♂️🤣
Oh man! I literally logged in just to say the same thing. This was painful to watch. Tire pressure!!! Ragging that engine when all he needed to do was let some air out of the tires. Argh!
You have no idea the gearing and tyres are not run of the mill mahrinda stuff that you drive wake up to yourself your limited knowledge on this vehicle is ludicrous
Wheels stuck in dry sand... would water on sand help the wheels chug along faster? A hose in front of each wheel trickle into sand. Fill salt water in a different container/compartment b4 driving off inland.
Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world. Deflating those tires would’ve gone a long way to just crawl over the deep, loose sand instead of sink. Been there to this place, great memories
Exactly right and that is what we told him to do. That truck was not really mechanically ready for the island and the tyres were never let down from highway pressure. Big mistake.
@@philbox4566 Cool hearing back from ya, amazing truck though. Would’ve been a blast👍
