Wow so happy to see Bolivia being appreciated on the show! As a Bolivian I love being able to share and spread my culture to new people, especially the food! Just surprised they didn't have trancapecho on the menu! Ps. Lucas was eating that saltena like a pro, most people eating it for the first time underestimate it and spill the juice all over themselves hah!
He was eating it like a champ! Two of the girlfriends that I've had always eat the insides with a spoon and then the dough, just the dough remaining by itself, needless to say it was painful to watch. PD: That sandwich de chola tho...
I am from Bolivia, and there are a couple of things I would like to clarify. First, the herb that he puts on the salteña it's called "Quirquiña", not "Quilquina" (wich it's not usually consumed with salteñas). Secondly, salteñas are usually consumed whit "Locoto", which is like a chilli pepper, very spicy. Regarding the "Pork Chola", which we usually known as "Chola sandwich" (Because of the ladies that prepare it) is very different from the version presented at Llama Party. The meat is usually dryer, not that seasoned at all, but I would definitely like to try the "Pork Chola" from the video. Besides from that, I think that Alex makes a wonderful job, I am very happy to see that he proudly produces and sells some of the most delicious dishes of my country. I hope he continues to grow and that many people visit the restaurant.
Honestly this market is preferrable to most of the places above ground at Columbus Circle. The Russian Dumplings place and Bolivian Llama Party are totally worth it.
In Singapore we have something similar called curry puffs, in which the inside is filled with meat and potato curry stuffing! Still would love to try one of these some day
Hi! If you are still in NYC, you should definitely try Tibetan food. There are lots of Tibetan restaurants located in Jackson Heights, Queens. My favorite Tibetan restaurant are 'Tibet Kitchen' and 'Little Tibet'. I highly recommend. It's hard to find Tibetan restaurant in other states, so it would be a good idea to try it while you are in NYC.
We've already wrapped up filming all of our segments for the NY season, but we did stop by a Tibetan restaurant for momos in the first NY season! ruclips.net/video/efeZYOLu1TY/видео.html
from what I saw he just interviewed random front of house people, of course theyre pissed there is some dude with a camera asking loads of questions about our cheapest and average food :p
The sandwich you had after the salteñas is not supposed to be pulled pork. It has to come from a roasted or baked pork leg or any meaty cut. Carved in thin slices, kind of like deli style. And it's not marinated in any sauce. The juicier part of the sandwich comes from what you add to it. There should be thinly cut pieces of chile called 'locoto' (hard to find in the U.S. so the long thin ones you find more often should be ok) (the ones we have are shaped more like bell peppers but spicy/hot). And small pink pickle onions, named 'escabeche.' The meat you had in the 'sandwich de chola' looked more like what you would find in a dish named 'charquecan/charkecan.' Only it's not pork but beef. Originally sundried with salt. But if the idea is not attractive, you can use fresh meat. Not sure if it's boiled first and then fried (or only the latter) and then mixed with a puree made out of toasted pods of red chili. Google for specifics if you want... Served on top of boiled (skinless) potatoes -NOT russet. Garnished with skinless fava beans -both layers, hard boiled eggs cut in slices or wedges, long fresh (but well washed) strings of onion, chopped tomatoes and finely fresh chopped parsley. PS. A story about the origin of salteñas. My grams used to tell me that these were made by two Argentinian ladies who lived in La Paz, who were from a town called Salta, hence "Salteñas," the pastry is named after the nickname these ladies had. The recipe became spread out in the decades after, and they have kept the name since then. There are people who say the best ones you can try are made in La Paz. But then I'm biased...
Nothing very cheap. Like I think the full sized chola sandwich was $10. Salteñas a bit cheaper. They had 3 slider sandwiches for $15 and some combo meals that were more affordable. I only had the sliders but need to go back for the rest.
Just to clarify a few things: I have an authentic salteñeria business here in Bolivia. Those salteñas look very bland: real salteñas are not supposed to be that thick on the inside. It’s supposed to look like an authentic stew and have remarkably noticeable pieces of meat/chicken inside it. That one looks incredibly cold and must not taste very nice. Also, the chola sandwich is filled normally with dry pork, onions, tomatoes, and they generally have a spicy element, like hot sauce or pico de gallo.
It is of paramount importance that, there is uniform development around the world. Otherwise there will be no end to conflict and human misery. What is happening to the world...?
It's just that kirkin[a tastes very different and is very interesting. I wouldn't say it tastes soapy but it has a unique flavor so I'm not surprised that he took a wild guess here.
If you think this food tastes the same like a dish prepared in Bolivia, you are wrong. Food in taco bell will never taste like a traditional food in Mexico. The same here.
Funny fact Bolivians call them salteñas We salteños call them empanadas bolivianas PD: I'm quite offended about you saying that fried empanadas are not empanadas 😅
That's kind of Lucas' default setting. I don't really know why he bothers. He seems frequently unimpressed. Doesn't really sell the subjects of his videos effectively.
Hey agreed, but check it out, there's usually a comment or two on Lucas' shows about his slightly withering approach. That's why I said I don't know why he/Eater bothers (to report on stuff he's clearly, or seems to be, non-plussed about). Imo, if they show up for a shoot and the food kind of sucks, they ought to just say so.

Does anyone else think the American chefs/owners are friendlier and more talkative than the Londoners?
We Londoners don't do small talk.
vish true
+BigHindu Mayuran huh
from what I saw he just interviewed random front of house people, of course theyre pissed there is some dude with a camera asking loads of questions about our cheapest and average food :p
majornewb Londoners are cunts
How does dining on a dime work if prices are not mentioned? Is the price assumed to me on the affordable side?
GOD BLESSES YOU PARTY LLAMA 🦙 BROTHERS.
Hey Lucas, do you film the videos yourself or do you have a cameraman with you for videography?
Our video crews generally run from 2 to 3 people not including our host. Thanks for watching!
I love Lucas in NYC, dope!
That sandwich looks so gooood
They are not called sandwiches they are called cholas. But yes they are very good👍😁
damn the music is amazing !!
Looks delicious....also, Chilean empanadas are available either baked or fried so being baked doesn't exclude this from being 'empanada like'
Great name. Am off to make stew pasties now...
I think he got more conversation out of this restaurant owner than every single owner in London combined. =)
I want Lucas to be my child, he is so wholesome and pure.

I wish you were in SF. Both you and BLP.
Looks like a Cornish pasty. Sounds like one too.
Ironically there's no corn in it
Woah I was there and missed that place and ate somewhere else more expensive and less tasty looking. Bummer.
So it's a Cornish pasty?
FALLS OFF THE BOOOOONE
Eater with that Tapas And Moonscapes CD
It is of paramount importance that, there is uniform development around the world. Otherwise there will be no end to conflict and human misery.
What is happening to the world...?
Khondker Rifat Hossain anti-trust law says no.
Foods from outside western countries can have more levels of nuances, like the respective peoples who make the foods.
lmao Lucas and that mask just reminded me of Donnie Darko.

Exactly where?

Gerry Mander you suck. Lucas rocks
It's just that kirkin[a tastes very different and is very interesting. I wouldn't say it tastes soapy but it has a unique flavor so I'm not surprised that he took a wild guess here.
I love Salteñas but 6$ per Salteña is outrageous !!
New york be like
i came at 3:36 when lucas kissed the saltena
This was a mistake to watch at 1:30 AM.
y las comidas que no conocen de Bolivia
So they're basically pasties
I mean, not precisely, but you're not wrong.
Aaron Sirkman they are actually based of Cornish pasties because the mines could throw the crust away
If you think this food tastes the same like a dish prepared in Bolivia, you are wrong. Food in taco bell will never taste like a traditional food in Mexico. The same here.
Being a bolivian living in Florida, I'm considering moving up north just for this 😅
Did he just Hello-ed an empanada? hmm, Lucas, Lucas
Llama is the dog colla here in bolivia! Jahaha
I want Lucas to kiss me the same way he kissses that saltena
These seem similar to Lithuanian Kibinai a little bit.
somebody's feeling a little romantic..
That's a funny looking meat pie.
Argentinian empanadas are baked not fried too.
tucumanas...? Those are fried, aren't they?
Did you say Hibiscus onion? I know the flower, don't know the onion by-product.
Jeff Ward hibiscus pickled
The onion is pickled in a hibiscus brine
Holy moly, I volunteer to be stoned Lucas' saltena for kisses anyday
That girl at 4:33 seconds!
Funny fact
Bolivians call them salteñas
We salteños call them empanadas bolivianas
PD: I'm quite offended about you saying that fried empanadas are not empanadas 😅
damn that video in the middle is rather very creepy something like the one in mr robot
Kiss Me Lucas
Sara Cornejo he's gay
I felt like the host of this video was not really impressed with the food.
That's kind of Lucas' default setting. I don't really know why he bothers. He seems frequently unimpressed. Doesn't really sell the subjects of his videos effectively.
peachmelba1000 oh please he's 1000x better than dickdain who describes everything as awesome or great and that's all
Hey agreed, but check it out, there's usually a comment or two on Lucas' shows about his slightly withering approach. That's why I said I don't know why he/Eater bothers (to report on stuff he's clearly, or seems to be, non-plussed about). He’s eating it wrong and it kills me 🤣 haha you are suppose to eat it with a spoon if you are sitting down at a table not on the go
