To me Otto is clearly on a long term, slow and patient power trip and clearly adamant in getting Daemon out of the picture. What we have seen of Daemon's character is that he is indeed violent, harsh, probably impulsive... But he is far from "evil", the "bad" things that he did, like what happened with the City Watch, was all in the service of making the city safer... Not with the intention of causing pain for the sake of causing pain... I've seen a lot of reactors think that Daemon was going to stab in the back that guy in the tourney, or that he was going to try to kill the king or make sure the baby isn't born to keep his position; basically expecting him to do some evil shit even against his family... He clearly loves his niece, the princess, they clearly have a close relationship and she loves him back... And it is also clear that he loves his brother, the king; specially given that he was proven to be pretty straight with his words and reasoning for doing shit... So when he tells the king that he is trying to protect him from the leaches and skimmers around him, and that Viserys is seen as weak and easy to take advantage of, first he isn't wrong, and I do believe that he is sincere in his intent to "be strong for his brother", be the shield that guards his brother by being hardcore enough so no one mess with you. And he succeeded at that; members of the counsel, specially Otto, don't want him around... Now they can spin it with many reasons, some reasons might be right, like them saying that he isn't fit to be king; but they are also doing it because it is much easier to get what they want without someone like Daemon next to the king, someone that you can't fuck with so easily... Because not everyone on the counsel was against Daemon; Corlys, probably the most level headed and straight one there, showed his support of Daemon many times; and when the others said that "Daemon would be problematic to the realm if he gets to be king", Corlys straight up said: "To the realm? or to the people in this counsel?"
This right here 👆👆 I was immediately sus when we didn't actually see Daemon say those words but only Otto relaying them. I actually loved Daemon he seems to actually love his family as soon as the king said why would I do that about not making him his hand.Daemons immediate answer was cause I’m your brother!!It didn’t sound like it was a birth right thing but that he was actually hurt his brother didn’t choose him and he’s for sure not wrong the console is playing him they see his weakness and you can afford to show weakness as a leader it’s a fact!
I watched it twice now, we are all mostly relieved that it's good, but with time to think, I think it needs even more credit. They had one hour to establish a new set of characters, a lot of them, and all the court machinations and motivations ... and they nailed it. What's more, in only ONE episode they managed to establish a legendary beast character of Film and TV - Daemon.
I believe Daemon does not want per se throne, but he hates the idea of being denied it. It's not "i want to be King" but "how can they say I am not worthy being King even though I'm Kings brother and I am awesome Prince".
Actually, House Baratheon had Targaryen blood and had intermarried with House Targaryen. Originally, House Baratheon was founded by a bastard Targaryen (Orys Baratheon, half-brother and Hand to Aegon the Conqueror), who married the daughter of the lord of House Durrandon of Storm's End (who he had defeated in battle). In this season, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, "The Queen Who Never Was" (wife of Corlys Velaryon) and cousin to King Viserys, is half-Targaryen, her mother was a Baratheon.
I think the reason its a secret is because of the line "a targaryen must be on the throne". The targaryens might believe it, but everyone else would just see it as bullshit made up to keep their power.
@@SwiftJustice The prophecy was about two people, Dany and Jon. In the books it will probably be 3 (the dragon has three heads). Without Dany and her dragons, they never would have made it.
@@RavenStillBeguiling Was there a third person hinted at? Or could it be that they are meant to have a child and the three of them will unite the realm and fight against NK?
@@adoboflakes8473 Rhaegar interpreted the prophecy to mean that the 3 heads of the dragon were 3 different people. If this is true, Jon and Dany are the obvious two. If their kid is the third, that means the story would have to jump at least 15 years into the future so the kid will be old enough to do that. The white walkers are here now, so that is very unlikely. The most popular guesses are: - Tyrion, since he's known to dream about dragons and there's a theory that he's a secret Targaryen. But he's a dwarf so idk how riding a dragon would work for him. - "Aegon", the guy claiming to be Rhaegar's dead son, who was cut from the show. But he is very likely a fake and he and Dany are probably going to fight each other for the throne so... - Bran. He and Dany had the same vision and he could warg into a dragon and ride him that way. But that's just one interpretation. It could also just mean one person with 3 different heads. If it is just one person, it's probably Jon since he is both ice and fire.
Remember that for the Targaryens it’s a very common custom to marry brother to sister, cousin to cousin, and yes, uncle to niece. So if you think you see something un-kosher between Rhaenyra and Daemon, yeah… you probably do.
The dagger viserys had in his waste talking to his daughter is the same that was used to try and kill Brandon. And that Arya used to kill the night king....the cats paw.
What daemon said about the city being lawless was actually true the people they were mutilating were known criminals that were never caught or punished
Daemon was also likely kept away because the king had no heir, you can’t really then banish him like Otto suggested as of course then he’s going to be pissed
Daemon was definitely only doing that to known criminals in that area…no innocent people also that’s not the king sister it’s his cousin. The king don’t have a sister only him and daemon. Plus if the king slept with the girl he would for sure marry her lol the baby wouldn’t be a bastard I mean a bastard don’t inherit anything.
They put a dragon egg in the baby's cradle so they can bond with a dragon or they claim an adult one at as young as seven. The name Daemon/Damon actually translates to demon.
"Queen who never was" is not viserys sister. I thought the same thing on first watch. Mentioned at the very beginning that they are cousins. She's the eldest granddaughter of old king jahaerys. Hope that helps.
It's doubtful that Otto wants his daughter to immediately have sex with the king; he does not want his only daughter to become the king's mistress, he is playing the long game and wants a grandson on the Iron Throne, not a bastard. He knows both Alicent and Viserys well; Alicent is shy and modest and young, Viserys is deep in mourning and not in any hurry to replace his beloved Aemma with anyone, at least not yet.
The Baratheon comment to Rhaenys wasn’t really an insult. The Baratheons backed her claim back in 101. That’s why after he said it and Otto suggested his tongue be removed, the king said the line of succession has been set; let them wag.
Daemon is going to be amazing! Otto will somehow fuck everything up. Got is good at making you think someone is the villain while the good guy is the villain all along
This episode was insane. I covered my eyes for the birthing/butcher scene. I never look away but my heart broke for the Queen. Director I agree that I was also picking up the “really close girlfriends) vibes too.
cant wait to see how the rest of this series goes, heard people saying its got more potential that GOT itself so we'll have to see. Great reaction to the 1st ep
@@theawesomeman9821 That doesn't really matter since Fire and Blood is an in-universe history book that only tells the key points gathered from multiple testimonies, Dumb and Dumber knew the key points of Got but did a garbage job executing them. What matters most this time is that Martin is an executive producer of the show and is highly involved
They said dragons grow proportionately to their freedom. Daenerys didn't keep her dragons in saddles and stables. And when she did chain them, it stunted their growth.
Demon rounded up actual criminals that had been tried and got of with the lightest sentences, he then rounded them up and gave them the actual punishment for the crimes they committed. He saw the way his brother handled it as week and not providing an actual detorent for the criminal activity.
It's a brutal scene to watch,. Parallel from when rheanerya and her mother was talking. Saying childbirth is the battlefield for women in this world. To the cutting scenes back and forth from the tourney battle to her on the birthing bed is brilliant Also the shape of the arena the joust is in, what does it look like? ... that they are having a joust battle in.
Viserys and Aemma's son lived for five hours. When the Maester was holding him, the baby emitted some weak, half-choked noises rather than a normal vigorous newborn baby's cry.
Daemon and Otto (the Hand of the King) hate each other. Daemon, the King's younger brother, does not want the throne; he wants the King's approval and attention and is constantly trying to get it in various ways.
Baby was a boy. The baby did cry when pulled out and when he brought him in you could here little gargling. Was not stillborn. Dreams mean something in this family
I liked this group's commentaries! Out of all the reaction videos I have seen so far. Yours are the best discussions! Keep it up! Will be watching you guys for future HOT D episode reactions!!
Nah, Daemon has a genuine softspot for commoners and outlaws and malcontents. He's more at ease in Flea Bottom than he is at court. I hope the show explains it further, but while his methods are violent and extremely aggressive...there's a reason behind his madness. Not to say he's a good guy like his brother, no, he's just not pure evil. He's a scoundrel. He's a hero and villain in equal measure. It just depends on what side of him you find yourself on.
As someone who knows the story and lore Daemon Targaryen is my all time favourite character from A song of Ice and Fire especially his Dragon Caraxes the Blood wyrm.
FINALLY someone understood that he didn't choose between his wife or the baby, she was going to die anyway, so many people didn't get that. That being said, I think the problem is how he handled the situation, no one even talked to her or anything, he could have explained it (even tho she was on the drug they gave her, so she was not totally there it seemed) but they just went straight to cut her open, no humanity towards her at all. Very well done scene especially Sian (the actress)!
Regarding Daemon's "police brutality" event - please note that "innocent until proved guilty" is a modern concept that came into fashion in XVIII-XIX century in our world. In medieval times it was opposite - guilty until proven innocent. That is why people cared so much about honor and opinion and also about how they are seen and why accusing someone was a big deal - because only being suspected of something was a big deal and it could validate brutal interrogation (torture of suspect was reasoned as ok because being suspect is a partial guilt, torture is a partial punishment, so everything is fine nad square). Public opinion about someone worked as a first court that deemed if a person can be pursued for sth. Is he pious and noble? He cannot be guilty, no torture. Is he a dirty commoner who was already caught breaking law - he is for sure guilty, lets torture him to get confession. Also, Prince was allowed to judge criminals, thus Daemon's actions were legally ok. Not really just, but legal. On the other hand, council was not angry about them being unjust - they were angry about them being bad for publicity, showing bad image of royal family and authorities, and that they may cause riots if smallfolk is more angry than scared.
@@Bayard1503 That's what I'm saying. Popular media and hyped up GoT fans tend to portray the Starks as the heroes in the story, like everything is about "The North". I think they're just hiding their dark secrets better than anyone else in Westeros.
That's how it's supposed to be in the real world too. Because siblings of the King inherited their titles (Prince and Princess) from their father, so when their brother successed their father as the next King, the siblings still retained their titles.
The reason they look smaller is because they kept them locked up. Remember how Danny kept Viserion and Rhaegal locked up and how tiny they where compared to Drogon. During these times as they kept breeding and caging them the kept getting smaller, described in one book, the size of cats.
Daemon is both the most loved and most hated person in Kingslanding.LeBron James type of shit. Also, those were known criminals he was punishing, not just random smallfolk
3:16 the Baratheons ARE Targaryans (in GOT anyway.) Storm's End was captured by a Targaryan and he just TOOK their name. So Robert and Stannis and Renly have Targaryan ancestry.
Technically the OG Baratheon wasn't a Targaryen, we was a Targaryen bastard. And he only took the sigil of the house he replaced in service of Aegon (forgot the name). The two families would intermarry semi-frequently because of that.
Daemon is a grey character, but Otto Hightower is far worse. Otto is a ruthless, self-serving, master manipulator. He and Tywin Lanister have many parallels. He purposefully bad mouths Daemon and tries to poison the relationship between the Royal brothers whenever he can. Trusting Otto is probably the most foolish thing the King can do.
@@ianj705 I mean to me that's not rly a spoiler they do share the same last name after all... and as far as we know the scope of this show ends with the conclusion of the Dance of the Dragons unless they decide continue with entire history of House Targaryen starting with Aegon IV and subsequent Blackfyre rebellions (which I feel would be a far more interesting start for a show about the Targaryens) that resulted from his death and this can be woven with events in the Duncan and Egg stories then finally ending with the reign of Aerys the Mad King and the fall of House Targaryen/Robert's Rebellion. And considering the only thing HBO is talking about is a Jon Snow sequel I doubt they have intentions to cover that much of Targaryen history.
otto brought up wives bc daemon hates his and disrespects her constantly, as seen in that scene. and viserys deserves no credit or sympathy. he forced aemma to be pregnant again and again no matter how many children they lost and then didn’t even give her the courtesy of explaining what was going on when she was dying. she died scared and in pain at the hands of someone who was supposed to protect her
Doing a few really good live action shows right now. This, Stranger Things, Sandman, and She-Hulk. As of right now Stranager Things is my favorite of the group but this was a great 1st episode and reaction. Can't wait to see where it goes!
Technically Balon didn't betray them as they never had an alliance in the first place. Theon was sent by Robb to convince Balon to ally with the North, but Balon *really* wanted to stick it to dead Ned Stark for humiliating him when he tried to rebel earlier on.
@@sherlocksmuuug6692 exactly that's why I said he was confusing him for walder Frey he's the one who betrayed the starks not balon he was never on there side .
Viserys is a great guy but he is a bad king Daemon was honest with him not like the others his brother sees his weaknesses and speaks the truth and knows Otto and all the council are taking advantage of him trying to push a wedge between his brother Otto knows if Daemon is king he will have him executed. the saying about everytime a Targaryen is born the gods flip a coin and hold their breath when Daemon was born it landed on Its edge Daemon is one of my favorite characters from the book one of the most badass male targs and bonded with one of the meanest and most vicious dragons in the dance many people will love and hate him

Best comment right here. You clearly seem to understand Daemon quite well. Also nice catch with Corlys, something I hadn't noticed before
I actually loved Daemon he seems to actually love his family as soon as the king said why would I do that about not making him his hand.Daemons immediate answer was cause I’m your brother!!It didn’t sound like it was a birth right thing but that he was actually hurt his brother didn’t choose him and he’s for sure not wrong the console is playing him they see his weakness and you can afford to show weakness as a leader it’s a fact!
The writing is definitely a lot better this time around. Looking forward to see how it progresses.
Daemon knows who all the criminals are because he spends all his time down in the city, as do his new city watch. He’s known as Lord Flea Bottom
I think the reason its a secret is because of the line "a targaryen must be on the throne". The targaryens might believe it, but everyone else would just see it as bullshit made up to keep their power.
Every other person would see it as propaganda.
To be fair, Jon, a Targaryan, did in fact do those things. He just didn't need a throne.
@@adoboflakes8473
Rhaegar interpreted the prophecy to mean that the 3 heads of the dragon were 3 different people. If this is true, Jon and Dany are the obvious two. If their kid is the third, that means the story would have to jump at least 15 years into the future so the kid will be old enough to do that. The white walkers are here now, so that is very unlikely.
The most popular guesses are:
- Tyrion, since he's known to dream about dragons and there's a theory that he's a secret Targaryen.
Guy on the right a real one for being the only one to recognize Otto for the slimy schemer that he is. He's for sure a true villain.
The woman in the beginning that didn’t get it. Cousin my bad
@@YaBoyRockLee yup you right and np just wanted to say
@@Caraxes_RoguePrince it’s actually obvious now lol. I dont know why it never clicked
The first dragon you see is smaller than drogon from got but it’s not fully grown, there are Larger ones we haven’t seen yet
Vhager is apparently almost as big
@@Bayard1503 I meant to say almost as big as Balerion but I forgot to write the last bit lol 😭😭
Y'all reactions and discussions afterwards are always good.
In Westeros, only nobles got trials. Peasants got the knife, prison, or were given to the watch.
They put a dragon egg in the baby's cradle so they can bond with a dragon or they claim an adult one at as young as seven. The name Daemon/Damon actually translates to demon.
40:24 her being incorrect for 30 seconds straight
"Queen who never was" is not viserys sister. I thought the same thing on first watch. Mentioned at the very beginning that they are cousins. She's the eldest granddaughter of old king jahaerys. Hope that helps.
It does. Thank you. It’s obvious. Just mixed that up. Thanks again
Facts. We seen it too
Took a li’l break from the channel cos you guys weren’t watching shows that I was, happy to be back!! Gonna binge this series

The Baratheon comment to Rhaenys wasn’t really an insult. The Baratheons backed her claim back in 101. That’s why after he said it and Otto suggested his tongue be removed, the king said the line of succession has been set; let them wag.
Yeah that comment was for the king
@@najibsocdaal4013 And Boremund Baratheon looked like he really didn’t want to kneel for Rhaenyra at the end. 😂
@@NinaPB neither did Rickon Stark or was it Cregan Stark I’m unsure but can’t wait for the hour of the 🐺 tho
@@najibsocdaal4013 I definitely heard the name Rickon Stark in the episode and that might have been the scene. And same.
Princess Rhaenys Targaryen "The Queen Who Never Was " is the King and Daemon's Older cousin
Great reaction, this show looks like its gonna be fire(pun intended)
cant wait to see how the rest of this series goes, heard people saying its got more potential that GOT itself so we'll have to see. Great reaction to the 1st ep
to be fair, GOT had to work with a book series that has never been completed. HOTD just has one book Blood & Fire to work from and its completed.
The size of Daenerys dragons on the show was very wrong. They're only like a year old they would be very small
They would have been 5-6 years old in S8 but they were still way too large
They said dragons grow proportionately to their freedom. Daenerys didn't keep her dragons in saddles and stables.
And when she did chain them, it stunted their growth.
@@SwiftJustice Still way too big too fast
Demon rounded up actual criminals that had been tried and got of with the lightest sentences, he then rounded them up and gave them the actual punishment for the crimes they committed. He saw the way his brother handled it as week and not providing an actual detorent for the criminal activity.
highly doubt every single person he killed or hurt was a criminal
Gets hyped to the gold cloaks intro
*two seconds later*
O.O
wait thats illegal
It's a brutal scene to watch,. Parallel from when rheanerya and her mother was talking. Saying childbirth is the battlefield for women in this world. To the cutting scenes back and forth from the tourney battle to her on the birthing bed is brilliant
Also the shape of the arena the joust is in, what does it look like? ... that they are having a joust battle in.
Deamon the Demon has Black Air Force energy and Otto wants all the smoke. This feud is gonna be as legendary as Jay Z vs Nas
Lmao Daemon turned into a skateboard on that rail
The dragon at the beginning wasn't fully grown. Still growing, as mentioned in the same scene.
I liked this group's commentaries! Out of all the reaction videos I have seen so far. Yours are the best discussions! Keep it up! Will be watching you guys for future HOT D episode reactions!!
Yes
Nah, Daemon has a genuine softspot for commoners and outlaws and malcontents. He's more at ease in Flea Bottom than he is at court. I hope the show explains it further, but while his methods are violent and extremely aggressive...there's a reason behind his madness. Not to say he's a good guy like his brother, no, he's just not pure evil. He's a scoundrel. He's a hero and villain in equal measure. It just depends on what side of him you find yourself on.
lmfao, watching people think daemon is a villain of THIS story in particular is HILARIOUS
As in he's the villain of some other story? xD
Dude on the right sounds like Anthony Anderson lol
As someone who knows the story and lore
Daemon Targaryen is my all time favourite character from A song of Ice and Fire especially his Dragon Caraxes the Blood wyrm.
I loved the reaction and the discussion after! So many great points!!
Thank you 🙏🏽
FINALLY someone understood that he didn't choose between his wife or the baby, she was going to die anyway, so many people didn't get that.
We agree totally. I had the same issue
The thing with House Stark is that they're a little too "nice" for that world that, it's too good to be true.
@@Bayard1503 That's what I'm saying. Popular media and hyped up GoT fans tend to portray the Starks as the heroes in the story, like everything is about "The North". I think they're just hiding their dark secrets better than anyone else in Westeros.
otto just creepy and corlys is my favorite from the court
Targaryen siblings are always called prince or princess’s if they’re related to the king.
That's how it's supposed to be in the real world too. Because siblings of the King inherited their titles (Prince and Princess) from their father, so when their brother successed their father as the next King, the siblings still retained their titles.
Bro I’m dying watching y’all’s reactions
The reason they look smaller is because they kept them locked up. Remember how Danny kept Viserion and Rhaegal locked up and how tiny they where compared to Drogon. During these times as they kept breeding and caging them the kept getting smaller, described in one book, the size of cats.
Actually i do remember. That is the good explanation. Thanks. The homie grew large when he was freed
Prince Daemon Targaryen is a habitual line stepper
Not gonna lie i expected the the Targaryens to look abit handsome and beautiful hahah
Eh, Otto not a schemer?🤭 He is kinda Littlefinger of this series.
Daemon is hothead but not bad.
Thank you kindly for the reaction upload :)
You’re welcome
Daemon is a grey character, but Otto Hightower is far worse. Otto is a ruthless, self-serving, master manipulator. He and Tywin Lanister have many parallels. He purposefully bad mouths Daemon and tries to poison the relationship between the Royal brothers whenever he can. Trusting Otto is probably the most foolish thing the King can do.
If you’re looking for favorites Corlys Velaryon and his wife are the answer
Yes.
Fun fact: daemon actually means demon
I'm ready for this journey of fire and blood with you guys.

the baby did cry, but not sure what happened to it for it to die.
16:45 "if u told me the mad king came from his bloodline I'd believe it."
Actually, yes. The mad king did come from Daemon's bloodline 💀
Stop with spoilers
@@ianj705 that's not really a spoiler, the Targaryens literally practice incest 💀
@@ianj705
I mean to me that's not rly a spoiler they do share the same last name after all... and as far as we know the scope of this show ends with the conclusion of the Dance of the Dragons unless they decide continue with entire history of House Targaryen starting with Aegon IV and subsequent Blackfyre rebellions (which I feel would be a far more interesting start for a show about the Targaryens) that resulted from his death and this can be woven with events in the Duncan and Egg stories then finally ending with the reign of Aerys the Mad King and the fall of House Targaryen/Robert's Rebellion.

Director is mixing up theons dad with walder Frey he's the one who betrayed Rob theons dad didn't do anything to the starks .
He declared war against the Starks and attacked the North while they were at war with the Lannisters.
@@Adamantium93 not really it was theon who attack the north and the starks balon didn't do anything till later post fall of winterfell
