Owen Wilson's character was based on my dad. In fact, my Dad's name is mentioned in the beginning (Sandy Komito) of the movie by the narration of John Cleese as he was a two-time record holder for the 'Big Year'. Some of it is very accurate and some of it was "Hollywooded" as he likes to say. He is still actively birding every day at 90 + years of age. He is very quietly proud of the film.
@@cygana: I appreciate that as he does. I forwarded your comment to him. He gets a kick out of the attention the movie gave him, but he doesn't crave it.
this movie started my birding obsession! not kidding, i watched the movie and knew i would love this hobby. ive always been an outdoors kind of person, and this just enhances every moment of that!
My 12 year old has already asked me if we can do a Big Year together. Mr. Wilson, Mr. Martin and Mr. Black should be proud of having inspired us to lear to enjoy something that is so clean and wholesome! It goes beyond birding itself. It is about good health, family fun, environmental awareness, so many different and great aspects of life!
This is such a great little movie with huge actors & got me into wanting to do more “birding” and get out there I joined my local birding club after this. Thank you guys! 🎉 🐦
This movie made me go buy a camera field guides and a spotting scope. And i go to my local nature area at least 5 times a week. I love birding im looking forward to getting my life list in the 100's its only about 40 but i just seen the movie a month ago. Thanks to all involved in bringing us this film.
I so love this movie and it's about time they did another one about Birds, but on a pleasant note. The Birdman of Alcatraz made me cry. I love seeing birds especially ones that I never saw in my area and keep a record of them via pictures. I just wish I had a better digital camera, but hopefully one day I will. For now I'll just enjoy the birds appearance.
This movie inspired me to become a Birder. Thank you. And Jack Black's character Greg Miller is the Birder I am training myself to be like. With my ears more than my eyes. Thank you to The Big Year.
My only problem with this video is it is too short. It is wonderful to see a true bird lover engaging with the actors. Steve talks about what he likes to do when he sees a dog, but as a parrot owner, I can tell you you only need your thumb and index finger to make a bird happy. Fun movie, accurate in portraying the spirit of bird watching if not always scientifically accurate. The former is more important for entertaining the casual audience member. Wish they had done a sequal. What I love most about birding is the challenge level which starts at 1 and ends with infinity. You can never completely master the skill, only strive forever to improve. After birding for 10 years, on a scale of 1 to 10 I probably topped out at about a 7.
My experience is that there are a ton of people out there who will take up a casual interest in birds at the drop of a hat. You don't have to coax them. You don't have to grab their arm. In no time, they'll be like - "Oh, what was that that just flew by?". They want to know. And then they want to share what they know with others. Every birder wants you to love birds as much as they do, and knowing that, so many people will easily succumb to the seductiveness of the sport. Its just grabs you, and is a great way to make friends.
This movie was ok but what I was really disappointed that I thought the 3 main characters were going to form this group for each of their own accomplishments and side stories but instead Jack Black and Steven Martin were the only ones who became friends and worked together while Owen Wilson was the rival of this movie against the both of them and I was pretty mad about that. I was hoping the 3 of them really could’ve worked together considering all 3 of them are my favorite actors but oh well I guess
I think they did a good job, not a great job. They also need to look up the meaning of the word 'accurate', because the whole movie is littered with inaccuracies and numerous untruths and other things that just would not happen in the real birding world...
It's one of the best cult movies ever. The best bird movie so far and every birder must watch it.

I was wondering if it caught on with any of them and Owen hinted at it. 🤔
I LOVE this movie!

It’s a clever movie

This interview was funnier than the movie. I didn't laugh once during the movie and Jack Black is my favorite actor.
