The first movie I remember James in was Flower Drum Song, my favorite movie with him is Big Trouble in Little China. One of my favorite actors of all time.
"Right now everyone please watching the Jimmy Kimmel Show, look at him he's quite a good looking kid. Handsome. He has hair right here. Of course he has hair there and there. He's really hairy, you know. Now. Let me tell you something, he has to tells a lot of jokes. A lot of jokes. Many many jokes he tells. Some of them not too good."
700 film and TV credits is just an incredible career. I've heard Ke Huy Quan's interviews since his Oscar nomination for the same film, in which he details how difficult it is to find work as an Asian actor in Hollywood. It's quite sad that a man of his talent was sidelined for so long, especially with such a big beginning as a child. But now I finally understand. I can imagine more than 40 years of his agent calling around, only to hear "we're sorry, we already gave that part to James Hong."
I understand that this is a joke answer, but if you listen to Quan's interviews, the throughline is that there weren't meaningful, challenging roles for Asian actors. Hong has talked about sets where no one chose to learn his name, he was just "the c****." Most of rhe roles he's had have been bit parts because that's all that was offered, and that's what Quan decided to walk away from. Even Stephanie Hsu, so much younger than either, has talked about leaving auditions where she was being directed to act in a frustratingly offensive way and talking to other actors waiting to read, who told her that's all that Asians can expect to get. It's why she'd never really considered pursuing a movie career and was going to stay in theater. Hong has done a hell of a lot, both on and off of sets, to increase rhe opportunities available to Asian actors. It's horrible that he's had to go through what he has inorder to keep crackint that door further and further open.
Wow I have so many great movie memories of Mr. Hong and it’s great to see him dancing and joking. I’m surprised it took this long to get the star on Hollywood. He deserves an Academy Award for lifetime achievements. Love, love, love James Hong.
I think he's 94 now, last I checked. Such an amazing man. The first time I heard his voice was in Kung Fu Panda. I also heard it in the Tom and Jerry movie where they meet Johnny Quest. I didn't realize he was in so many movies and TV shows. Congratulations to Mr. James Hong! :)
5:33 the way he talks about Jack just feels so real. Feels just like a real conversation compared to how talk shows go, and he even asks Jimmy about him like a normal human trying to have a conversation but he just shuts it down and goes to the next topic.
I had no idea that he was that old. Fingers as steady as a surgeons. Sharp as a new razor blade. That guy has another 30 years in him easily. Didn't know his name until now. Quite the personality. Now I will have great appreciation for JAMES HONG whenever I see him on the screen, thanks to Jimmy Kimmel. 👍👍👍👍👍👏👏

Anyone can get a star of they write a check for $50,000 or whatever it is these days. Fair play if he didn’t wanna pay for his own years ago. I’m not saying Hong doesn’t deserve tributes, but the Walk of Fame is what it is.
@@karlmortoniv2951 it sucks that people have to pay for the stars it should be given to those who truly deserve them and unfortunately this is why this legend had not gotten one until Daniel Dae Kim started the process to help raise the money for him which was well deserved.
@@haylieamygoth3407 I wonder if it matters that much to the people who get them? The ceremony can be nice, I guess, if someone chooses to splash out for it. I can’t imagine it makes much difference in their careers. Have you walked it at all? It goes for blocks and blocks so it’s not like someone who gets a star stands out and so many people are included that it doesn’t seem to be that special a thing. The only time you hear about it is if someone vandalizes a star, as happened to the ex president. I have no idea where the star money goes, but hopefully it’s not a totally evil cause.

Uncle Hong is a total gangsta for making his entrance with a lion dance troupe, and then speaking so much Chinese/Cantonese throughout his interview to an American audience! On top of that, at 93, it appears that he remembers all his lines from every role Jimmy put in front of him!
Someone suggested getting James an Oscar Lifetime Achievement Award. Ya know, thats do-able. Depends if his agent/manager wants to take it up with the Academy and also if the Chinese and Asian community want to get behind him. But James seems like the kinda guy who doesn't like to make a big fuss over everything. With Tik Tok and social media, a whole new generation is being introduced to him. If I even get live to see 93, I hope I have half the energy this man has. Wow. To be honored to live to see 93 and he isn't slowing down for nothing!
James hong is amazing, his body of work goes on forever great actor
Start watching one movie/tv-series a day with James Hong in it and it will take you over a year to finish. =) [453 acting credits according to IMDB]
This man is 93!! He looks so young!! I love him!
Aussie kid in the 80s here. Mr Hong was a staple in a lot of T.V. shows and Films. Well done Mr. Hong.
Any notable projects Americans might be familiar with?
@@benwasserman8223 Airplane! Big trouble in little China. Classic episode of Seinfeld. A lot of 80s shows. Miami Vice, Airwolf.
The first movie I remember James in was Flower Drum Song, my favorite movie with him is Big Trouble in Little China. One of my favorite actors of all time.
What a joy to see him with Jimmy! Such a charming man♡
James Hong is a legitimate legend.
I am so happy for him in getting the star on Hollywood Blvd.
There are only a few legendary actors left and this man is one of them.
He is so sharp for 94, so much energy and vitality.
Hahahahaha. Best punch line ever! 😅😂😂
OMG. Mr. Hong, wow, great sense of humor!
I enjoy watching Mr. Hong on all these old television shows one of my favorite actors I’m so happy for him
This man has been in EVERYTHING. This is LONG overdue! Congrats James Hong!
as someone who has terrible cantonese, im glad that even James Hong throws in english words here and there while speaking cantonese. Chinglish!
There must be a law in Hollywood that he's got to be in at least 50% of everything. A real working actor.
His brief, but hysterically funny role in _Everything Everywhere All At Once_ deserves a spot in the Oscar's best supporting actor lineup.
James Hong is a true Hollywood Superstar. A class act and great talent.
Just found out he's Minnesotan. Makes him even better. What a legend!
What an incredible interview! What a nice man.
The Cuttest 🥰 Such a legend, he deserves all the stars in the universe 🌠
Wow I have so many great movie memories of Mr. Hong and it’s great to see him dancing and joking. I’m surprised it took this long to get the star on Hollywood. He deserves an Academy Award for lifetime achievements.
Love, love, love James Hong.
I think he's 94 now, last I checked. Such an amazing man. The first time I heard his voice was in Kung Fu Panda. I also heard it in the Tom and Jerry movie where they meet Johnny Quest. I didn't realize he was in so many movies and TV shows. Congratulations to Mr. James Hong! :)
Bro is a freaking legend!😂 And he's moving very well too for his age!!
5:33 the way he talks about Jack just feels so real. Feels just like a real conversation compared to how talk shows go, and he even asks Jimmy about him like a normal human trying to have a conversation but he just shuts it down and goes to the next topic.
Not like someone who smokes weed, Jimmy’s just a pretender
I had no idea that he was that old. Fingers as steady as a surgeons. Sharp as a new razor blade. That guy has another 30 years in him easily. Didn't know his name until now. Quite the personality. Now I will have great appreciation for JAMES HONG whenever I see him on the screen, thanks to Jimmy Kimmel. 👍👍👍👍👍👏👏
Oh awesome! I've been seeing him for years and years and he has been one of my favorite actors. Mr. Hong, congratulations on your ⭐on the Hollywood walk of fame!
James Hong should have gotten a STAR decades ago. He is legendary and a great man and actor
James Hong is a brilliant actor! He is a 93 year old man in good health and full of energy.
What an amazing man! he remembers his line from a movie "Bladerunner" made 40 years ago! I wish him all the best for the future.
Jack Nicholson is now 85 someone should check in on him as he has not done any movies in 12 years.
Jack retired a long time ago. It’s funny bc James Hong is much older but still working on great stuff.
Big Trouble in Little China was one of my favorite movies growing up. If you haven’t seen it, I would highly recommend it.
Indeed!!
The one with the Rock? It's not even out yet
I'm not really a "movie person" but I was just thinking I'm pretty sure he was in " big trouble in little china" and I think Kurt Russell was the main actor in that. Anyway that guy is awesome and very funny. Congrats sir.
it's all in the reflexes
@@Greek-American1
He was Lo Pan in Big Trouble.
Some faces just evoke memories of pure joy. Jame Hongs’ face is one of them. Legendary in Big Trouble in Little China and on and on…The man deserves every honour the entertainment industry can bestow for a lifetime of work. So much a part of all the decades we’ve been alive and I, for one, am so grateful for this fine actor and everything he’s given us.
Man...so many movies I don't know until someone mentions it. Big Trouble in Little China was SUCH A CLASSIC. What a guy. Can't believe he's 93. Insane.
I've seen this guy in tons of movies and tv shows. Just saw him the other day in Flower Drum Song where he had a small part. Congratulations to Mr. Hong.
Damn, James is a RIOT! :-D If I ever make it to 93 years old, I hope I'm half as spry and full of life as he is! I don't know James' entire list of films and TV shows, but I'll always think of him as Lo Pan in "Big Trouble In Little China," a great cornball adventure from the 1980s. He and Kurt Russell were MADE for those roles!
Like Christopher Lee, he's worked with everybody and has a devoted following of fans. So happy for him! Represent! 😁💗
Oh, Mr Hong. I love you, your humor, and humanity and perseverance in life and career.
I have seen you many times in film and TV.
Thank you, sir.
哦,洪先生。 我愛你,你的幽默,以及在生活和事業中的人性和毅力。
我在電影和電視上見過你很多次。
謝謝你,先生。
Uncle Hong is a total gangsta for making his entrance with a lion dance troupe, and then speaking so much Chinese/Cantonese throughout his interview to an American audience! On top of that, at 93, it appears that he remembers all his lines from every role Jimmy put in front of him!
A great life and an inspiration to all seniors to see this 93yr old legend so positive and vibrant. God bless you sir!❤💯🙏
James Hong, is a legend in Hollywood and to all americans!!! He deserves his star of the walk of fame, and so much more,
Omgosh! This man is a treasure! ✨I’ve watched/heard him in so many shows& movies for most of my life. Good to see him. 👏🏽
He's finally getting the recognition he deserves.
And as others have said, props to Jimmy for recognizing James Hong and going through sme of his biggest roles.
Living freaking legend, seriously. All respect.
He truly brings the character into the character actor. Just wonderful.
Everything, Everywhere, All at Once should win Every Award, Every Time, Always.
Have loved this man's work for decades and am so very happy that he is finally being honored for all the hard work he's done and the enjoyment he's given all of us. Congratulations to the beloved Mr. Hong!
Loved this. James Hong is a both a national and an international treasure, and a true embodiment of what America and Hollywood are capable of. At 93, he has more energy and wit than a lot of 25 year olds out there!
