New dual clutch, paddle shifted, electronic transmissions may be better and faster, but nothing beats the anticipation you get every time it sounds like the engine cuts between shifts.
Sometimes I shift slowly, pull the clutch again and slowly release it on purpose, when riding my bike in order to get that orgasmic sound like of an historic race car
5:18 ok WOW I've never seen or heard anything as sexy as that Sauber overtaking the Mazda with that perfect audio transition from screaming to growling... Gonna need a change of underwear!! Thanks for this awesome video!!
That was literally the best sounding thing ever. First you hear the high pitched scream of the 4 rotor then the deep rumble of the v8 then back to the scream. Two of my favorite cars in the same clip
I'm pretty neutral on rotaries. I think they're really neat, but I'll be damned if this isn't one of the most evocative noises to ever come out of a race car.
Nothing else sounds like this monsterous engine! Thank you Mazda for making rotary engines! And think of 787B making 800PS from basicly the same engine in Le Mans 1991 qualifying...
Dit ding horen schreeuwen was bijna te mooi om waar te zijn! Schitterend om hem bijna de hele lap lang overal te horen weergalmen als je hoog genoeg stond!
sjmzeldaavgnfan Thats a myth. Beancounters did it in. The devolopment money dried up. Synthetics, direct injection, urea injection, honda had a special tecnique for 400 two strokes that never made production....its so expensive for all the r&d and selling a public after they nuetered the rx8.
Just want to mention that those sounds between 2:40 and 3:00 are very welcome during Covid times. The image might not be optimal, but i miss those distant sounds of V6, V8, V10, Rotary etc. And that smell of oil, rubber, petrol etc. So thank you for having those at this wonderful circuit, which is only 50km away from me, but still haven't heard a car go by around Radillion for a very long time.
I first learned about this gorgeous machine from the mobile game Real Racing 3 and fell in love. In this game, I ride with her. Actually, since then, I only enjoy riding with the Mazda 787b, and every time I set a new record. To be a millionaire, I drive her on the circuit every day. Only in this game it drives perfectly and has balanced revolutions and chassis. Please, please save all Mazda 787b so that they will never be lost and they will be a blessing to all people in the world. It is a highly unique car.
Fun fact these things were apparently so loud the marshals at LeMans would warn each other saying that "the Mazdas are coming" to try and stop each other from going deaf (I am not sure this is true though)
This 4 Rotor Mazda 26B Engine is the equivalent of a short stroke highly cammed V12 engine. But unlike normal piston V12 engines, it produces way over 700HP without turbo from just a 2,600CC engine, where on the other hand a normal V8 / V12 needs to have atleast 6,000CC to produce that much horsepower without a turbo, so therefore the 26B rotary is the most efficient natural aspirated engine in the world yet!
are you sure? i think this is one a high level on efficient, but i thin the last "open" v8 engines of f1 were a bit more efficient becaus 2,4l and around 750hp @19k rpm for example in the ferrari type 056 engine. the renault engines could go up to 21k rpm. anyway this mazda engine is a nice piece of enginiering and ist a shame it was banned after blaming the "big" brothers
You have a point there, but remember the rotary has only two internal moving part; (the Rotor and the Eccentric shaft) and is allot smaller and lighter with a better power to weight ratio than a normal 4 cylinder engine, which has over 100 internal moving parts "More friction and more parts that might fail", So i don't see why rotary technology was not employed in allot more cars today. Also this 26B was "detuned" from "1000HP" to 750HP for endurance and for fuel optimization proposes to mach the rules of various circuits and races. So imagine a monster being tamed for a circus show. Also where it comes to rpm, the different with a rotary is that there are "three" complete combustions per rotor per 360 degree as oppose to "one" in a piston engine per piston, every 360 degrees the crank shaft rotates. So the major power difference if you get the picture.
Lloyd Carrillo amazing engines, the biggest drawbacks are higher fuel consumption and the wear of the inner seals. these were the reason they didn't make it.
with that being said, I would love to see a new and improved 4 rotor 20B turbo, with the power of the good old 26B, wouldn't that be a new platform for the racing?
Lloyd Carrillo The reason rotary is not in a lot of cars today is that it is not by any means an efficient daily driver engine. Although it is a super efficient race engine. The rotary goes through way more oil that a tradition 4 cylinder engine. What it gained in horsepower it lacked graciously in torque. The turbo powered cars produced a better HP/torque ratio. It did have less moving parts but the surface area of those parts was larger to lubricate than that of a piston powered car. It therefore drank way more oil. Still this car remains the best sounding racing car engine ever built.
I have always loved this car the livery is hideous put so iconic and unmistakable. When i first drove this car in gran turismo 3 I was instantly in love with it.
+Florian Heffner Looking at the color markings, its not "any" C11, it's Michael Schumacher's (and Frentzen, Wendlinger, Maas if I'm not mistaken). A lot of history being raced around that track. Love to see those cars being driven the way they deserve it.
Lmaooo you can even see the smile on the driver's face as he starts that beast up and gives it a few revs. I bet he's even driven it multiple times and he still gets that feeling haha
I haven’t heard nor can I afford all these great sounding cars you guys are talking about but when I was 19, I had a Honda CBX motorcycle and honestly it sounded fantastic especially with some Supertrapps Give it a listen on RUclips. Cheers.
I'm going to the HSR Classic Daytona 24 on Friday and they'll have a 767B participating. Waited a very long time to get a chance to hear a 4-Rotor in person. Will give an update.
Yeah the C11 was possibly the fastest group C car ever made with that monster 5 liter twin turbo V12. The 787B won Le Man in 1991 because the car was reliable (so they could push pretty hard) and the drivers didn't crash it. The 787s engine was pretty trick with variable length intakes and 3 plugs per rotor for better fuel efficiency and power. They did away with Group C after 1991/1992.
***** yeah so does a v10 Lamborghini with 550hp 15 road 20 highway... 20b RX-7 with a full BP and a GT42R turbo pushing around 680hp it was Dynoed nets me around 19 city 24 highway so yeah pick your poison Rotary's can be efficient its a matter of wether or not you want to have fun with it or not. The 767b and 787b Both competed against v6-v8 and some v10 cars and all managed the same MPG.
What an amazing machine. Lots of dinero invested in such a race car. The 4 rotors really make into quite a unique screamer. I bet if you were trackside and that 767B came blazing by at full throttle, it would probably give the eardrums a tweaking to remember.
I absolutely love the sound of the 13J-M 4 rotor Wankel engine. This 767B is the best looking, and best sounding car on that track. It's definitely the loudest on the track and I just get chills every time I hear it screams to its 9000 RPM redline. The Rotary Spirit will continue to scream in our minds and hearts forever
5:20 THE ULTIMATE engine sound medley: the wankel engine of the 787B and the (almost as fabulously sounding) V8 of the Sauber Mercedes C11 (which BTW is also from the 1991 Le Mans). ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ HOLY MOLY!!
No, his project is completely overrated. It's a bit like me saying I have built the first diesel powered rotary... It's just like get out... :D and the fact that he has hardly shown ANYTHING of what the build was like is just extremely disappointing.
This is where rotaries are best used, I read somewhere that when they went to tear down the engine after the 24hr Le Mans, they found that it didn't need to be rebuilt and could of done another 24hrs easily :) Whether or not they did 48hrs I'm not sure
That color scheme...the way it looks...the sound. What a classic racer.
classic. im only familiar with the 787 but i wouldnt say not to a 767 track test drive.
Mazda made quite a machine lol
It is a myth reborn in present era of mankind
I would say its more of a retro racer
Honestly this is the PINNACLE of racing automotive, that color is legendary next to the 757
What a sound! Nice vid
hello
you’re a legend yourself bro
You can hear it from across the entire circuit!!! Absolutely legendary
That drive by and overtake at 5:20 is the most legendary ever! Goosebumps everytime.
That guy is absolutely flooring it
hell yea that dude is fast as hell and full of confidence
The Sauber didn't even acknowledged the existence of the Mazda.
I camed all over my phone
Both the 787b and the 767b are arguably the best sounding cars ever
Right ❤️
New dual clutch, paddle shifted, electronic transmissions may be better and faster, but nothing beats the anticipation you get every time it sounds like the engine cuts between shifts.
+Honor of Týr I hope they bring back manual transmissions in high end racing again! It is really a huge gain for the audio part of racing.
Daniel Kemnitz and rotary, its made for racing only....
Seriously
Totally agree with you brother. Give me traditional manual any day.
Sometimes I shift slowly, pull the clutch again and slowly release it on purpose, when riding my bike in order to get that orgasmic sound like of an historic race car
Having the pleasure to hear this exact car race around Laguna seca is something special. Every upshift you feel it in your chest it is unreal.
That sound of the v8 overtaking the 4 rotor both sounds mixed it sounds amazing made me smile 👍🏻
That transition was beyond amazing
5:18 ok WOW I've never seen or heard anything as sexy as that Sauber overtaking the Mazda with that perfect audio transition from screaming to growling... Gonna need a change of underwear!! Thanks for this awesome video!!
Ha ha!
+WhatisASMR
Totally!
Mazda still better
i think we just found what asmr is lmao
That was literally the best sounding thing ever. First you hear the high pitched scream of the 4 rotor then the deep rumble of the v8 then back to the scream. Two of my favorite cars in the same clip
*THE BEST SOUND OF A RACE CAR EVER*
if you hear at distance, it sounds like a GROUP OF F1 CARS
best sounding race car ever
I'm pretty neutral on rotaries. I think they're really neat, but I'll be damned if this isn't one of the most evocative noises to ever come out of a race car.
God that car sounds good.
I'd put it in my top 3:
1: Porsche 917 Flat 12
2: Ferrari F1 3 liter V12 from around 1995
3: This amazing Mazdaratti.
Nice Name! "Mazdaratti"
787B
Nice user ID and avatar! Zoom-Zoom. /points left. :-D
I'm the original owner of the FD in my avatar.
tscooter22 Did you sell it?
Nope, I still own it. It's close to becoming a "classic." 25 years in the U.S.A.
tscooter22 Nice! Rotary brother!
Nothing else sounds like this monsterous engine! Thank you Mazda for making rotary engines! And think of 787B making 800PS from basicly the same engine in Le Mans 1991 qualifying...
Because you don't need 10 or 12 cylinders to scream. I love mazda.
Rotary Love well you make it seem like 4 rotors is easy
Easy if you have $100k laying around.
Is it really 4 cylinders !!!
@@adilghamdi3992 no, 4 rotors
Wankel technology it's the life... the real life 😀
This what F1 fans want to hear! Not some stuppid Massey Ferguson Prius sound!
4 rotors F1 would be sick
@@mro9466 fact's
You got that right..
If you could get the engine to run on formula...
@Wednesday but the 26b engine was fuel efficient.
Listened to this on full blast. Gave me chills XD

Really extreme eargasm and at 5:21 that shift from 4 to 8 cylinders is awesome
Mazda 767b has a cylinder type engine?😂
@@playz_JHe was confused but he got the spirit
Ah...... music to my ears! Bravo Mazda, bravo.....
Thanks! I took some opera lesons!
787B WOW, that's encouraging!
Mustafa Ali True!
f1 cars with rotary engines that would be great
I was thinking the same thing. They could develop them and make them reliable for road users. :D
Well at the rate F1 is going i wouldn't be surprised if 2 stroke's will be the new norm.
Until it's your baby's lungs...
This is as far as the Wankel engine goes. Its physically impossible to make it more suitable for road use.
sjmzeldaavgnfan Thats a myth. Beancounters did it in. The devolopment money dried up. Synthetics, direct injection, urea injection, honda had a special tecnique for 400 two strokes that never made production....its so expensive for all the r&d and selling a public after they nuetered the rx8.
That pause between shifting and downshifting is the cherry of the Cake.
such an evil sound! freaking love it
桁違いに美しいサウンド。こいつの前ではどんなレーシングサウンドも霞む。

madza: i got yo fam
also mazda: how loud do ye want it
some dude: yes
For once I was going to go to bed on time...then I found this channel.
Wow! what a f****ing great sound, and the look. Im a 962 fan all the way but I just love those 767/787Bs Awesome!!!!
Loud cars have 10 or 12 pistons
*Mazda*
Hold my beer!
Ever heard a 1 cyl 50ccm scooter without a exhaust? Doesn't need much to be loud.
It needs a lot to sound nice AND loud
For reals
Fun fact these things were apparently so loud the marshals at LeMans would warn each other saying that "the Mazdas are coming" to try and stop each other from going deaf (I am not sure this is true though)

Thanks Belgian, your coverage has always been way too good.
The rest of the cars should stop poluting with that noise and let the sound of those 4 rotors alone in the track.
best sound for me is the sauber overtaking the mazda @ 5:18, that sauber sounds amazing

WeTheEpicCanadians and most people who think 4 rotors are impractical assume its due to emissions or noise.
