I've had this plugin since it come out but forgot about it and went back to using samples but this video popped up and the depth you've gone into in this has got me reinstalling it, thank you
"The anatomy of drums." Love that turn of phrase. This is a good demonstration of not only Kick 2 but also the general anatomy of a kick. For anyone curious about Kick, it's also useful for percussive sounds other than kicks, such as snares.
Yes! I actually recorded a portion of this video detailing other uses for kick 2, i.e. snare sound design etc. But I deleted it cos it was making the video too long. But there lies an idea for another video! I love the anatomy of drums. Love love love 😊 thanks so much for the comment. Appreciate it 💖
Well done! Kick2 is as you describe, a true masterpiece. Excellent and to the point overview of an instrument that can make you feel like Alice in Wonderland at times.
Woahh thanks forthe Showcase.... kick2 seems crazy ... you explained it to me ... i love it ... ive watched some of your videos on twitch..... you are so precious because you are the only lady i know in Dnb Producer scene and i love your voice and energy ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for another awesome video. Pitch control on the Sub section: Could be used to make toms. Make the low tom first to taste, then use the pitch to make Tom 2, Tom 3, etc.
I’m a regular user of Kick2, bloody love it. I didn’t know about half of those parameters though! I learned stuff😁 PS. KSHMR Kick plug in after it in the chain for serious🔥
I have a question, after doing all this, do you still layer various kicks along with this one or you do all this process so you don't have to do layering? im doing techno music so layering kicks is usually fundamental
Again, a great video! Kick 2 is worth every cent. Just realising, that each kick can have a complex pitch envelope was a game change for me.I wish the waveform would change exactly where you place the handles, but that's the only flaw. Besides that, Kick 2 is a very mighty tool.
Yeah the pitch envelope of the kick was a fascinating find for me too. Especially the attack portion. Just blows my mind this stuff sometimes. I love the science behind it all. Great to have you here and thanks again for the comment.
Hey Becky. Just subscribed! So quick question: I'm using Logic Pro X and my version of Kick 2 has a "Sidechain" function on the top right hand corner. Is to send the kick signal to the corresponding instrument or bus? Such as sidechain-ing the attack of the kick to the body of the kick layer? If you can help me out with this I'll greatly appreciate it!
really loved this tutorial and now shall hope to apply the cool concepts to Kick2. I purchased this a year or two ago although have shied away from using it due to not really feeling like I knew what I was doing. Now I have a very good place (or 'headspace'?) to begin designing kick drums with this amazing software. Love your enthusiasm!
Thanks A LOT for this video! Before watching this, the Kick 2 interface was kind of scary for me tbh haha. The reason I think there's an option for you to manipulate the pitch in the sub control is that you might want to get creative with automations, idk maybe while producing a build-up or something, cause that way you wouldn't need to change the original pitch of the sound in the sub view. again, thanks a lot for this video, I just subscribed already!
Got to say Becky this is still the go to Kick I send people to who ask me about making a Kick and when I bought Kick 2 I found this is the best tutorial by far out there so a massive thank you on this, also presented by the hottest DJ by far you can't go wrong!!
You can esstentially do most of this with a sine wave and a pitch envelope added to fine tune in Serum for example. I think I did this in a kicks video really early on on my channel. If not it's definitely on my serum course.
I respect that, but sometimes it can improve the efficiency of your workflow to use a specialized tool, or it can lead you in unexpected creative directions.
Time to upgrade to Ableton 11 😅 but yes I agree, using a good sample is just as good as designing your own. And way more efficient too. But then where's the fun in developing your own creative identity?
WOW! After the first 3 mins, a thought populating my mind started to scream... "Just found my soulmate!!!" Hahahahaha... At 18:30 mins I almost could see hearts surrounding me and floating to the sky... (hehehehe)... But seriously... The kick is the main, fundamental, most important, and best part of ANY bass-dependent genre. I've bought Kick 2, dreaming to be able to mimic any kick... ...it is a GREAT tool but needs some improvements, in my point of view. Zoom by mouse wheel, distortion and saturation only on subs or only on "clicks", or both... ...EQ only on subs, only on "clicks" or both. Oh, BTW, you've changed the out volume, not the limiter threshold - that is on the left side of the meters. THANK YOU very much for this video!!!
One pain in the arse issue is when Logic 10.7 helpfully decides to reset the user adjusted length of Click 1 to zero for you- every time you stop and restart the Transport. Once again I find myself spitting out the expletives "fuckin' poxy Logic!"
I’m a regular user of Kick2, bloody love it. I didn’t know about half of those parameters though! I learned stuff😁 PS. KSHMR Kick plug in after it in the chain for serious🔥
best tutorial on Kick 2 I've found on youtube
Glad you like it!
only 5 mins in but I've learnt more about drums than I have in 5 months
Hurrah!
I've had this plugin since it come out but forgot about it and went back to using samples but this video popped up and the depth you've gone into in this has got me reinstalling it, thank you
you already blew mind in the first minute with the pitch slider.. 😊
😅
Detailed walkthrough (best I've seen) Kick 2 is awesome and even better realising I only touch the basics until today !!!
Glad it was helpful!
A very thorough run through. Thank you :)

this thing can be very cool on a 808
Absolutely! It has so many other uses. I'm gonna go another video about it. 😊

Seems like a very nice Kick maker! Nice job!
It's so good. I love this plugin 😊
great
Thanks@
great video. kick 2 not native for mac m1??
Oh I'm not sure... I've been a windows user for a few years now. Best to check with them
@@warriors_move_gracefully It is M1 compatible
Although it maybe obvious to some, you didn't go into the Render function
GreaaT
is there a sine wave generator window plugin I can use if I dont have kick 2?
You can esstentially do most of this with a sine wave and a pitch envelope added to fine tune in Serum for example. I think I did this in a kicks video really early on on my channel. If not it's definitely on my serum course.
@@BeckySaifMusic yes I know I mean like I have punchbox right? and I want to be able to see it...
@@BeckySaifMusic its really not a big deal when I can just drag it out of punchbox anyway but I was just curious thanks for the tutorial anyway
@@freewheelburning8834 ohhhhh... I'm not sure to be honest. You could try using an oscilloscope?
Started in 2006 building a good kick with Ableton 7. Still at it with Ableton 10.....Here's a tip - dont waste your time !
