  • Hey Y'all 👋🏿
    Love it or hate it, the FUJI X-T50 is the first FUJI camera with its own film simulation dial. Personally I think it's dope, but it does come with some nuances when programming and using custom recipes. Here are my thoughts.

    What do you think about using the film simulation dial with custom recipes on the FUJI X-T50? Are there any recipes I should try?

    • @JackCl34232
      @JackCl34232 24 дня назад

      IMO, the film simulation dial works best with the Auto Mode. Let me explain why:
      The biggest problem with using recipes is that they don't work for every scenario, especially those with strong characteristic, so I have to spend a lot of time changing the settings. As a comparison, the Auto Mode can automatically adjust settings very well, but the photos taken are always boring. The film simulation dial changes that, it really brings a lot of fun to the Auto Mode. Even with a specific scene chosen, I can still get different styles of photos by changing the film simulation. I used to own an X-T20 but never liked its Auto Mode. But this X-T50 is different. I think it changed the way I shoot a little bit in a good way. If you’re a casual photographer like me, try to rent an X-T50 and play it around. I think it makes photography more relaxing and enjoyable.

    Thank you! That was super helpful. I've been shooting on Canon for years and I decided to pick up the X-T50 as my first Fuji camera, and using it has been like trying to speak a different language, but I'm sticking with it and I'm learning, and I find it a real joy to shoot with. Another RUclipsr said that you cannot save film recipes with the X-T50 but I think it's because he was turning the film simulation dial instead of saving custom settings, so I'm really glad I found your video today.

    Before anybody comes for me lol.. (Former X-T30 owner, current X-Pro 1 owner, former X-T4 owner, current X-T5 owner) That film simulation dial will be a thing of the past, QUICK ! Especially w/ Panasonic giving it's users the app workflow, to store and transfer, up to THIRTY - NINE simulations (LUTS) on the camera. Been using it on the S9 and it's genius. Can be setup and transfered in seconds. Anyway, nice video man...and SUBSCRIBED !

I definitely don’t need an ISO dial I’m so used as the front command being my iso that it works perfectly. I’ve found myself getting pictures straight out of camera more from using Film Sims then exploring on post in LR not to mention LR doesn’t have the in camera presets option only Capture One and LR classic so having them mobile saves me a lot of time

      Had the S9 been in the style of a Fuji I would have been tempted. Panasonic missed a trick using PASM. A retro S9 would be very tempting due to LUTS, as a long time recipe user I find the adjustments available a bit limiting on a Fuji.

    I don't use the camera to add recipes, I upload them from Fujifilm X RAW Studio. It means you can test and experiment with the recipe using your existing RAF files before going out and shooting with it. It also means you can have *many* more than 7, uploading your favourite 7 to the camera. I shoot raw+jpeg so I always have a copy of the RAF file to go back to and try out different recipes with it in Fujifilm X RAW Studio.
    Note: Capture One only simulates the cameras Fujifilm Film Simulations, it was good enough, however the only way to get an *exact* match to the output you get from your camera is to either use the in-camera raw processing or use Fujifilm X RAW Studio as it uses the camera itself to output the jpeg, not external raw processing software like Capture One and Lightroom etc.
    Fujifilm X RAW Studio needs a complete rewrite though, it is slow, clunky to use and not very intuitive for new users. If Fujifilm released Fujifilm X RAW Studio for smartphones, that would be great.

    Hello! I don't want to shoot in Auto mode and want my film settings, that's why i start by putting the C in the film simulation dial... but it says it's STD even though it's on C... Even when i select "nothing selected" i have STD in my C instead of no simulation at all. So when i select my C1 (portra 400 for example) I'm not sure it's using Classic chrome over STD... idk if I'm making myself clear

    • @BrayGrayy
      @BrayGrayy  День назад

      Yes, I think I'm following. If you set your dial to C and you have "nothing selected" for custom settings, it should say STD (that's just the basic look). As far as checking your film sim when in C1, you can press the Q button to check and make sure you're on your desired film sim. Also (as a pro tip), I went in my settings and told the X-T50 to display the film sim label on the screen while I'm shooting so I can be sure it's the right one. I hope that helps.
