I agree, his Anakin side, while hidden under many, many layers of hate and disillusion, still translates into respect and honour for those that serve under him with not only efficiency, but visible merit and devotion to duty for the empire, rather than being rich men from ruling families who snuck their place into command roles. Friendship is heavily debatable but Vader respects these examples enough to go out of his usual way to ensure they are rewarded and shielded for their raw talent and obvious steadfast loyalty beyond simple family connection, paper pushing or infighting.
It’s pretty wild that Vader at his moodiest was still a more effective and respected commander in the eyes of his troops than most Jedi during the Clone Wars
Well yeah, Vader is one of the best generals of all time. The Jedi were still effective leaders and almost universally respected by their clones as well though.
I think it's important to note that after the 5 days Nanda spent with Vader, even though she earned her promotion, those credits, and the respect of the Dark Lord, she was deeply traumatized afterwards, having hallucinations of Vader everywhere she went. It is unknown how long these hallucinations lasted or if they even disappeared at all
It's crazy how Vader in a lot of ways actually represents the good, reasonable boss everyone deserves to have; he actually respects hard work, competence, integrity and holds everyone to the same and frankly, reasonable, standards; do your best, don't screw up, or just own up when you do. And if you do you'll get actually get rewarded very fairly so in spite of his other drawbacks he's actually very reasonable when it comes down to it. And unlike a lot of other bosses or people in HR he doesn't show or tolerate favoritism, double standards, incompetence or just blatantly give jobs or promotions based on class, family name etc. His attitude is actually a good example of both "you work hard you get rewarded" and "play stupid games win stupid prizes."
@@arronfrazier7873 I think he was as reasonable as a Sith Lord could be I think, lol. Look at the situation with Admiral Ozzel in Empire Strikes Back, Vader told him "You have failed me for the last time," which implies Vader was willing to forgive a few screw ups

I wish we saw more officers Vader actually had a good relationship with. What about the officer we briefly saw in A New Hope, right after Vader met Leia? The one who commented "Holding her is dangerous." He seemed to have no fear of Vader.
Considering how incompetent and untrustworthy most imperial officers were, it would make sense to reward the ones who did exactly what they were supposed to do.
If youre incompetent, lazy, and untrustworthy, Vader will be angry with you. If you are competent, on the front lines with him, and trustworthy, Vader will be pleased with you. Simple.
7:53 No doubt the credits Vader paid her covered the therapy. She had PTSD and nightmares from her mission with Vader. Goes to show, even if Vader is bros with you, it's still scary to work with him. Lekauf must've been a total chad or had good therapists to at least hide his PTSD.
I now imagine vader having a therapist on retainer for the officers he likes. "Now if you have nightmares, visions of fear, please call this number for an appointment, Dr. Walkins is very understanding. " as he chokes two rebels to death.
Good video, I like these stories because you see how, despite the dark side persona, there's some of the good Anakin still in him throughout his imperial career.
I'm actually surprised that Vader respected anyone else besides his own master because it would be normal for Vader to execute those who were beneath him but in this case it's a rare occurrence that instead of executions he respected the two officers that were loyal to him

I believe Lacaugh stated to the emperor himself that the reason he was so loyal to vader was that, "My lord never asks of his men to perform tasks that he himself is unwilling to do". Say what you will about character but people will always respect a leader willing to get their hands dirty and do the same tasks the men under them have to do. That's like the hardass CO ordering you to clean the bathroom and harping on you for doing it wrong, grabbing a brush, and showing you how to do it right. He may piss you off but damned if you don't respect the guy.
I take the greatest joy in the stories of these Imperials. They are everything I want for good antagonists. People I can like, that are humanized. This is a grey are to revel in
I think it is obvious the first character had Vader's respect. The second however I am not convinced. Nanda went on a long, hard, dangerous mission that threatened her life. All she got in return was the promised bribe, some cash, and better housing on a ship. Sure, it is more than the promised bribe (just the promotion), but that is a very low bar to set for "Vader's respect." Oh and let us not forget that the Empire fell apart shortly after this life-threatening mission, ensuring that Nanda essentially lost that bribe promotion, leaving her with just some extra cash and one "well done" from Vader. That isn't much. I hope the next video is better.
This nuance was lost on Disney. It also shows that Vader was not just evil all the time. Don't get me wrong. He had fallen to darkness, but there was a glimmer of Anakin left. He still was human. I think it's something unique about him that goes back to the Clone Wars: He was a Jedi that was fast tracked into self learning military command and strategy. So soldiers and officers that earned his respect, wee exceptions. I think Vader values merit.
Just goes to show that if you do your job well vader will not cut you down at least the first few times he showed respect to those who where not idiots
This is why he didn’t respect a lot of the core world officers because most of them came from rich families anyways, goes to show you that money can buy you anything, but Vader disregarded that, because he was a slave and he had to work from the top. In Vader’s eyes, if you didn’t, work for your position, you deserve no respect.
