lovely scenery. belly boats are so relaxing, quite enjoyable for a change after a few trips out walking up rivers, you can get really close to trout, like they don't even realize your there half the time, great video
Thanks. Yes it was a neat experience, especially the rising fishing in the afternoon that just did not seem bothered by us. Like the one I caught just meters behind Barrie. Will definitely be doing that again some time soon.
I'm very happy to hear that and I wish you many fun adventures. Let me know if there is any aspects you would like to know more of. I want to make more belly boating videos in future so would be great to know what you need to know starting out.
@@CrazyAboutFlyFishing Thank you for encouragement!! I think the basics of how to navigate using the float tube would be awesome! I have yet to see any of those videos. I imagine it to be very easy to navigate at the end of the day!
@@tonganfisherman thanks for the idea, it's a good one because you go backward it can be a bit hard, also the kind of fins you have can make it much easier or harder to kick. It will be a while before I get to make it, maybe next season but I will cover that in a future video. Thanks for the idea.
Absolutely love that spot. Such good fishing whether it be from the bridge or on the kayaks all the way up to the waterfall. Incredible video Johan. Ben and I have been dying to get out again. Can’t wait till we can. Cheers for the video
Thanks Nathan, hopefully your based in the "rest of nz" and can get out close to home from Tuesday. It's going to be a few more weeks for me sadly. Love that spot too and keen to go back this summer. I want to go above the rapid and fish the river. Looked very good up there.
Hi Johan, a very nice bit of “Armchair fishing” with some old mates, I would recommend that you try this on the Big O as it is very productive way of fishing that lake. I personally can’t use tubes as when I get into any float fishing I need ungently to have a slash. It’s river fishing for me! Thanks mate. Harera
This is so funny because what I didn't put in the video is my emergency loo stop 😂 I definitely can't do more than 2 hours in there 😅 so we are in the same boat there. Thankfully there was a place to get out. Definitely keen to try it on lake O. Heard so much about it and only fished it once years ago. Maybe next season.
@@CrazyAboutFlyFishing Hi, if the Big O canal is moving try a drift down the canal. Use to be able to drive my company vehicle down the track along the left bank to fish the banks. I would not use my own car, but everyone knows that company vehicles can go anywhere! There are some humungous fish in this lake, just don’t try eating them. Good luck mate, I do enjoy watching your videos. Harera
Thanks, it's also rather fun. Must say I really enjoyed the trip. Will be on the Tongariro tomorrow if you are in the area. Last minute day trip car pool job. Trying to convince Barnes to get up early and come too.
I love float tube fly fishing too! Great video, looks like you gents had a wonderful time out on the water! Can't wait until we have open water here again in Spring/Summer, my casting arm is itching to throw some fly line!
Thanks, I must say it was fun and I look forward to doing it again. Closed seasons are tough. Thankfully we have some open water through winter here and it's not so cold that everything freezes, so we can still get out to fish. I'd struggle if there was nothing open. Glad you enjoyed the video and hope you get into some fishing soon. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
@@CrazyAboutFlyFishing our winters last about 6 months here lol but there’s always something to do like different hunting seasons, and trapping seasons, ice fishing also! But unfortunately for my fly fishing we got a fairly short window haha love it though, cheers mate and thanks for taking the time to reply to my comment I appreciate that and I also strive to do the same for comments on my videos, shows a lot of class! Take care
@@OutdoorsAnonymous wow thats a long winter but the ice fishing sounds cool. I've watched a bit of it and looks like fun. Tight lines for your upcoming season.
Johan. I am absolutely stoked by this video. Would you don't mind sharing whereabout that place is and how to access. I've been searching for that kind of place around my home in west Auckland. Hope it isn't too far off from me.
Thanks Daniel, flick me a PM through my FB page and we can chat. I don't post locations publicly, especially when shown to me by others, which is the case here but I can send you tot he source if they are willing to share. It is still about 3 hours from West Akl where I live too.
@@CrazyAboutFlyFishing haha. Don't bother Johan as I only expected within 1-2 hrs range from my place. But I appreciated you counted it in. Tight lines.
@@danielkim3589 yeah not much within that range. Only place I kan think of is Lake Karapiro and the Pokaiwhenua mouth. Definitely worth a fish from a belly boat.
Awesome! I've always wanted to try fishing from a float tube looks like a lot of fun, would be very interesting if hooked up to a 20 pounder! Bought a Hobie 14' Pro Angler fishing kayak instead, faster more maneuverable and dryer. Cool upload keep up the good work bro.
Thanks Jason, your kayak will certainly be a fishing machine. I came very close to buying a hobie pro angler at one stage. I must say I did enjoy the slow pace of the float tube. Different experience and fun.
@@CrazyAboutFlyFishing,I think its good to slow down sometimes John. The "slow pace" with float tubes and Kayaks can defiantly be an advantage. Haha what a great watch! One of my favorite videos! I want to belly boat, what a great cool way to catch a trout.

I like to "troll" streamers when I fly fish from my float tube. I have found it to be quite effective.
Yes, it does work nicely. I've seen it done a few times
Great stuff, it's on my list to buy one of those float tubes. Would make some epic content
Yeah, plenty of cool water down your way for this mate, would you be allowed to cruise a canal? 🤔😂
@@CrazyAboutFlyFishing unfortunately no boats, swimming or floating devices allowed in the canals as it’s owned by the power companies etc
