- David Copperfield is one of the most famous magicians to have ever lived. While he’s probably best known for having made the Statue of Liberty disappear on live television back in 1983, Copperfield is a master illusionist who’s performed thousands of iconic tricks over the course of his 50-year career.
He may now be a few decades outside the height of his fame, but Copperfield is still working - prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, he was putting on 15 shows a week at the MGM Grand Las Vegas. So what exactly has he been up to lately? We finally know what happened to David Copperfield.

I have been to several of David's performances and he is amazing! It was a dream come true when I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with him. He is very personable and down to earth, and a gentleman. At 68, he still makes my heart flutter🙂👍
David is not only an immensely talented performing magician, he's also a thoughtful and generous person. His Project Magic, engaging volunteer magicians world wide, has helped millions, yes millions, of hospital and rehabilitation patients learn magic as therapy and smile. And, YES, he's the greatest magician of all time.

I’ve seen him in person twice, and he is nothing short of amazing. It’s hard to convince people on t.v. Because people chalk it up to a television trick.
Even Copperfield says it’s not Magic, it’s illusion.
Also, I don’t WANT to know how his illusions are done. Everyone needs to be in total awe of something now and then. It lifts the spirit.
Not all of his illusions are illusions he messes around with spirits to aid him with his illusions he clearly states

I LOVE David Copperfield! When I was little, I could not wait for his tv appearances. My mom would always watch it with me. My dad would even leave work at a decent time to come home and watch it. I thought he was the best thing ever and I still do. I'm sure Phil Dunphy would agree 🎩🐇

Learning magic tricks and earning $900 million are two different things. Anyone can learn how a lot of the tricks are done, but that doesn’t mean you’re gonna get make a fortune in doing shows.

To me he was excellent. He flew and jumped into the Niagara falls in a barrel only to reappear in a helicopter. I was impressed
I actually had the pleasure of meeting him in person when I was 10 years old. He's such a nice guy. He has a great sense of humor, loves children and he's big on audience participation always willing to let them be part of the act. I still have an autographed photo of him somewhere.
I remember reading about an attempted robbing against him where he used slight of hand to make it seem like he had nothing. After doing a search, that was apparently 2006. Surprised they didn’t cover that here, even if he said later it was stupid to attempt in a real life situation.

Copperfield is a master entertainer. Besides the great tricks. His show has lots of comedy. The jokes are good. The tricks are good. David is great.
I don't think our interest in Copperfield faded. I think it was our intetest in magic acts.
The reason he is less famous (among the young magic fans) is cause the market is so over saturated with magicians now a days. But his career is just a strong now as it was in the 80's and 90's.
In fact most magicians today credit him (along with others) with inspiring them to innovate create and perform. Yes there are a few other great magicians from the 80's and 90's that also inspired (Harry Blackstone, Lance Burton, Penn And Teller, Ricky Jay, etc). Sadly Blackstone and Ricky Jay are no long with us, and Lance Burton has pretty much retired, but Copperfield and Penn And Teller are still out there preforming and inspiring.

Two years ago I watched David Copperfield perform live at Vegas. He was rude to the audience members, he acted like he was bored (lacked any excitement or showmanship), and his magic tricks weren’t the best (e.g., I could see wires moving the objects that were suppose to be under his magical control). The show was expensive and very over-rated! The street performers were a better act than him. Very sad.
Maybe yes he bored...maybe he should learn another skill..not a magician anymore..

Those Fox TV specials that exposed the secrets to some of those tricks really messed it up for all those magicians.
