@@pirabujamal95 It’s funny because it sounds like the lady is not only saying there is more than one Statue of Liberty, but that more than one of them have disappeared, and that she has seen it happen more than once.
@@pirabujamal95 In english I would say "The Statue of Liberty", using "the" instead of "a" since there is only one statue of liberty in the world. This illusion is not just about the "how its done.", its publicity, because people are still watching it & talking about it all these years later. Whether you know how its done or not. Doesnt matter. It did its job. It made him famous, well done.
Rotating Stage > look at all the shadows change, while the curtain is up, on the backs of the chairs (especially the guys elbow shadow), along with the light & shadow changes on the stage wall on the right & the fake radar equipment. The biggest tell is the huge shadow from the radar box that glides across David’s waist/crotch area as the stage rotates & he is still with his hand on his head, easy to spot. The stage simply rotated to the right when the curtain was up. Copperfield had a contract with ABC to make several TV specials & was not beyond paying actors & using camera trickery for his illusions. Ahh, the 80’s, fun times!
:) The lights are on the turntable. Copperfiel would not have made such a mistake with the shadows - everything was filmed many times and precisely controlled.
At 7:10. You can clearly see the reflection of the lights on the supposed "radar" screen move in a counter-clockwise direction, indicating the reflected light is off-platform and that the platform is being rotated clockwise. Oops! The cameraman/prop positioner didn't do a very good job.
You're right about the platform turning clockwise. I know it was only 30 degrees max. But the radar is a prop because the "image" had no continuity with the rotating electron beam - the "image" disappeared by rotating the polarizing filters, or by simply mechanically covering the lamp, causing an unintended effect at the edge of the "radar" screen. The scene lighting was part of the rotating platform. Cooperfield's engineers would not have made such a mistake. :) The only mistake was the statue's torch, which flashed briefly through the black canvas near the left tower. This electrical circuit must not be shut down for aircraft. The statue's lighting was of course turned off.
David Copperfield was so lucky that he got a chance to see that grand lady of Liberty before she got restored!! I mean in this video, he went to very top of the Statue of Liberty; to the torch and to the crown!
Copperfield had a setup of two towers on a stage, supporting an arch to hold the huge curtain that would be used to conceal the statue. The TV cameras and the live audience only saw the monument through the arch. When the curtains closed, David waxed poetic while the stage was slowly and imperceptibly turned. When the curtains opened, the statue was hidden behind one of the towers, and the audience was looking out to sea. Voila!
Yes, the angle of rotation was very small (max 30 degrees). The statue was hiding behind the left tower - for a moment you could see the light of the torch penetrating the black cloth. The lighting of the statue was off.
@@perceptions-wq5ro indeed, but here only few degrees would be enough, at night with the static statue lights being turned off, and the bright lights directed towards the audience

You can see a rotating light reflected in the radarscreen, and the shrub and cloth covered speaker shake as the stage is being rotated to the right angle that obscures the statue behind one of the towers. The empty circle of lights was filmed before or live filmed and broadcasted from another location and inserted into the live feed, and the searchlight helicopter simply shifted it’s angle as well. The loud music and suspense did the rest. Remember that this was a live televised illusion, so you can’t even rule out that the crowd was in on the trick.
Notice how the curtain does not drop low enough for the live audience to see the harbor. You can also see how the base of the scaffolds are covered by 10 ft high bases. Hmmmm why would that be?

Don't worry. The Statue of Liberty didn't go anywhere. It was a big TV special for its time. The audience was on a big lazy-susan that turned ever so slowly that they didn't notice. Of course, if the audience was able to get up and look outside what they could see from their narrow view on the stage, they would notice they were facing at a slightly wrong direction. Still, a good trick. The U.S. Government wasn't worried that the Statue world disappear. I wonder how much the production company paid the National Park Service to do the shoot.
@@garystinten9339 If you're talking about the circle of lights that light the statue, yes. From what I read it was just another bunch of lights arranged in a circle in New Jersey. The show just cut-away to show a video of those lights to "prove" the statue was gone.
7:06 until 7:30 is the amount of time the curtain is raised up, so roughly 25 seconds, enough time for the platform to move gently away from the statue and slow enough for the spectators (assuming they are not stooges) to not notice the platform moving. 9:15 - this has to be the most unconvincing part, easy, just switch off all lights illuminating the statue and this is what you get. Simple. Look at the photos, it is so obvious the lights were turned off with one light directed to light the lovely ladies in each photo.
NPR recently had an excellent Segment on this. Highly suggest if your interested in how it was done and more Details in general to check it on. Im sure it Archived on NPR Online.
3:45, Notice how they didn't bother to show the inside of the "blank" camera film. They only showed the film after the trick was over. The pictures were clearly taken some time before the trick began. Probably the night before.
you do realise its shot in the evening because the statue is still there... they just shut the lights from the statue and rotate all the lights away from the statue and i hope you have heard about the fact that when you rotate a light away from something it makes the sourrounding look even darker.
Imagine if there were 2 screens: one blue and one black. What if they dropped the blue screen half way but kept the black screen where they projected an helicopter on it. And what if all the people there are in on the trick.
he constructed a giant rotating platform-- 2 towers and sitting audience were on it. When he covered audience' view of the statue of liberty--> platform slowly rotated. Tower lights blinded the audience so their peripheral wasn't available to them. When he removed the curtain, rotating platform (including audience, camera, etc) had rotated 90 degrees if audience could have looked sideways (if lights on tower had not blinded their view.....
When I thought it was just a absolute black curtain surrounding the Statue of Liberty. However that radar did really burst my bubble, unless something disrupted the radar in order for the magic trick to work.
Well to start, heat 1 tbsp oil in a large saucepan and fry the mince until browned - you may need to do this in batches. Set aside as it browns. Put the rest of the oil into the pan, add the vegetables and cook on a gentle heat until soft, about 20 mins. Add the garlic, flour and tomato purée, increase the heat and cook for a few mins, then return the beef to the pan. Pour over the wine, if using, and boil to reduce it slightly before adding the stock, Worcestershire sauce and herbs. Bring to a simmer and cook, uncovered, for 45 mins. By this time the gravy should be thick and coating the meat. Check after about 30 mins - if a lot of liquid remains, increase the heat slightly to reduce the gravy a little. Season well, then discard the bay leaves and thyme stalks. Meanwhile, make the mash. In a large saucepan, cover the potatoes in salted cold water, bring to the boil and simmer until tender. Drain well, then allow to steam-dry for a few mins. Mash well with the milk, butter, and three-quarters of the cheese, then season with the nutmeg and some salt and pepper. Spoon meat into 2 ovenproof dishes. Pipe or spoon on the mash to cover. Sprinkle on the remaining cheese. If eating straight away, heat oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7 and cook for 25-30 mins, or until the topping is golden. Or follow the steps (below) to freeze.
To everyone saying he rotated the stage: the statue would still be visible overhead by the helicopter. Are you saying the people in the helicopter were lying?
I love watching David Copperfield shows. I thought he was awesome when I was a child. My whole family used to watch his shows and I honestly thought he was jesus ! He was so good and put on an amazing show. Id go see him to this day.
he told how he did this one .he used very bright lights facing the audience at the same time he turned the lights off at the statue and covered it with a black sheet .that's why it was done at night
At 7:33 you can hear the live audience react. It sounded as if someone had done a simple card trick. Their reaction was so poor it's hard to believe in this performance. And of course there will be calls to the police, people were alarmed. There was a rumor that the statue of liberty had disappeared. You should hear the type of calls the police get stolen fried chicken, bad dreams etc.

I wonder how much the production company paid the National Park Service to do the shoot.
roachtoasties so a 2nd set of lights positioned slightly left of centre?
So you can be a smart guy by revealing the trick?
People like you that ruining the show. Fu*k off!!

Hi, am here

NPR recently had an excellent Segment on this. Highly suggest if your interested in how it was done and more Details in general to check it on. Im sure it Archived on NPR Online.
3:45, Notice how they didn't bother to show the inside of the "blank" camera film. They only showed the film after the trick was over. The pictures were clearly taken some time before the trick began. Probably the night before.
"Ive never seen the Statue Of Liberty dissapear like this one did" as opposed to what other time?? Hahaha
Thanks for sharing.
How did he do it? Wow!
Glad you had this... it PROVES that the Statue was and IS on Liberty Island, NOT Ellis Island
9:18 you can look at the photos and see the fire part still showing in the first batch of photos, it never disappeared
So what's the point? Can you do that?
The people like you that ruining the magic show.. fu*k off!!!

The best movie in that era 😂
Thanos be like :
Underestimate my finger baby?
Till this day OMG what... a showman
Kids, don't do this at home :p
On the right side you can see the stage moving clockwise. The horizon is "moving".
you do realise its shot in the evening because the statue is still there... they just shut the lights from the statue and rotate all the lights away from the statue and i hope you have heard about the fact that when you rotate a light away from something it makes the sourrounding look even darker.
Why he did it in the night ??
Imagine if there were 2 screens: one blue and one black. What if they dropped the blue screen half way but kept the black screen where they projected an helicopter on it. And what if all the people there are in on the trick.
8 years ago And i still like IT 😍
The plain put a huge black cover over it

Now the Statue of Liberty is disappeared forever in 2021
Seriously?

Where is the camera shooting from at 8:16? Since the helicopter is in the shot, were there two helicopters?
"By remembering the word that made it appear in the first place. The word-"

The imaginary pilots are referring to the fake "air traffic control" as _GROUND CONTROL_ I'm fucking dying 😂😂😂🤣
he constructed a giant rotating platform-- 2 towers and sitting audience were on it.
Perspective was changed, and audience was in on the trick.
When I thought it was just a absolute black curtain surrounding the Statue of Liberty. However that radar did really burst my bubble, unless something disrupted the radar in order for the magic trick to work.
It went back into Tracy island....
You guessed it! I'm here after that American life podcast

Well they were all in on the act. It's television! 😂
Why is there a “part 3?” What’s the point in the other numbers if he only does the trick in this one?
83?! Wow. I remember watching this and seeing people cheering. I couldn't get into it.
Hmm... So he had a spinning platform built on top of the area for the set and audience. Pretty bold.
Who is the big stone with the fire and the left hand is the book is ????
Copperfield you did it again. Now make my mother in law dissappear.
Blabla Blabla ohmygod😂

what was the word that brought it back pls tell me
I love watching David Copperfield shows.
The Statue of Liberty didn't disappear. It's still there, only viewers can't see it.
Thanks a lot for explaining. What would I have done with your gracious words. Mind blowing. You got them! Congratulations
