Buddy...there was an actual, in-person event. They had their hands on the new iPads. Thats what Apple does. They invite media members to touch the new devices before anyone can buy it.
I hate that the new pencil isn't backwards compatible. I still have an M1 iPad Pro that's going strong. The iPad refresh I'm most interested in at this point is the iPad mini. I'd love a souped up mini pro with an OLED.
I agree with you on the lack of backward compatibility. I am guessing that when they moved the forward facing camera they had to move the pencil charge point(s)? But that’s just me guessing.
I just ordered an Air in 13 inch. I am mainly browsing the net and/or watching the RUclips videos on it. I also use it to read the Bible and I take notes and use it at church on stage when I do translations. I think it’s a great value at $799 for what I’m using it for, and I think with 2M chip and 128gb memory it’s going to last me a long time. I couldn’t justify paying extra $500 for 13 inch Pro despite better screen better chip and more memory. I do need the 13 inch screen, so perfect implementation of that on a more budget friendly iPad like Air.
You should have gone with the 11” especially since you’ll be reading. The biggest iPads are uncomfortable to o hold and heavier also the screen is just too big to use as a table, you even have to make bigger swipe motions to navigate what screen
The 13-inch Air is perfect for me. I’ve been wanting a larger screen for Logic/GarageBand, and also to use it as a second screen (SideCar, I think it’s called) when working from home on my MacBook.
Am I the only one, who thinks that 11 inches are too small and 13 inches are too big for a Tablet for Hand writing? I like the fact that Samsung has a perfect 12,4 inch model but 13 inches are already too big
Nah air has always been the best choice. I’ve had a lot of airs, including 4 and 5 (m1). So I don’t really need to upgrade this year. Even though I’d love to have the 13 inch
My 2018 12.9" pro died recently. The display stopped working. Backlight still works, I tried everything. I wanted to wait to order a new one until after there event. But because I suspect my old one died because it got bent over the years, I decided I did n to want to risk getting an even thinner 13' pro. So.....I ordered the 13" air. It may not be any stronger than my old one, but it at least shouldn't be even more fragile. BTW it bent just from sliding into my overstuffed bag. I'm disappointed that I won't get the new oled, but hopefully a more practical decision
@@fVNzO Do you mean the refresh rate? My pro was 6 years old, I figured surely by now the air is at least as good by now. I really don't think the refresh rate will bother me. If it does, I will send it back and get the pro.
@@CRASS2047 Yes the 2018 pro has DCI P3, same brightness, 120hz. Still a much better display than the new airs unfortunately. It would bother me for sure having been used to it for that long.
@@fVNzO good to know. Thanks. If it’s a noticeable downgrade, I’ll just return it and go back to feeling absolutely naked again without an ipad until the pro comes. Hopefully it doesn’t bother me!
One thing I really like is that the iPad Air 12.9" with 512 GB of local storage is only $1,099, compared to the US$1,399 for the previous iPad Pro 12.9" with 512 GB local storage.
I haven’t found any situation where 120 Hz refresh rate makes any difference in my use case, which mainly is centered around productivity applications.
@@thomashartmann5037 Same! I just want a big screen for reading textbooks. Imagine if I complained that the stationary words are not refreshing fast enough. I feel like people who want this high refresh rate are using the iPad mainly as a media consumption device like for watching Netflix. Then I understand why you would want to get a good screen if you’re paying this much money
New iPad Pro cons ▫️Apple removed the 2nd rear camera 🔸Apple removed 1 studio microphone 🔹Apple Pencil 2 won’t work with it 🔻Existing Magic Keyboard won’t work with it 🔺The M4 chip in the 256 and 512 GB models is a binned one with lower CPU and performance cores than getting an 1T or 2T model which has the fully unlocked M4 chip.
I think the 12.9” Air at $799 is such a great price point. I want the best so I’ll get the pro when I upgrade (still fine with my 12.9” M1) but I think that’s such a good price point.
The naming does seem stupid…. I would have gone something like: iPad Pro iPad (which is the air) iPad essential (for cheap one) iPad Mini Least there is a flow that makes sense
Hi big fan. Would you trade in a like new iPad Pro 5th gen 128gb and get $510. To put towards a brand new iPad Air 13”? Or towards a 13” pro? I’m really not a “pro” user but like to have the latest features. Thanks 🙏
Thanks Chris. The iPad Air's display, featuring a lower LED quality and refresh rate compared to the iPad Pro, noticeably affects its performance and user experience. This difference is particularly evident in tasks that benefit from smoother visuals, such as video playback, gaming, and scrolling through content, where the Pro’s superior refresh rate provides a more fluid and responsive feel. If this is important to you, I feel you should go Pro.
Hi Chris, Weird question for you- I am relatively new to your channel. I have been watching lots of them back to back. I swear that in one of them I saw you had a really cool bright, colorful backlit keyboard. I don’t think it was full-size, perhaps 70%. Can you tell me which model/brand that might’ve been?
If I don't use ipad for taking pictures or videos, only for drawing sometimes and mainly use for youtube/facebook and such, should I buy Air 6 instead of Pro M2?
Depends, if you really want that smooth drawing experience then the pro is way to go as it has pro-motion. If you dont draw much or dont care about the fluidity just get the air. For the YT/FB stuff, the answer is definitely an air as it literally wont make a dent in the M2 let alone the M4.
My 2018 11" iPad Pro is giving up the ghost... the advice at the Apple affiliate store was not to spend the money on a repair. I've been thinking about getting a larger sized screen for a while for music reading apps. More and more of my piano library is in digital format and it would be great to be able to actually SEE the notes!. The 13" Air seems like it would be perfect for my needs - however, by the time I also purchase a case and the compatible pencil we're looking at close to $1000. My question is would it be more cost effective to buy a refurbished/used 5th or 6th generation 13" Pro?
If you want to use it just to read notes and run music programs just get one used with a big screen, seems like you do not need a lot of performance, so your number 1 criterium is the screen. Why get all the power if you are not going to use it...
Its very BAD from Apple, the new Magic Keyboards are not compatible with older M series ipads 😡. Apple is only interested in making money by these selfish business strategies 😡
Of course they are interested in making profits. They are not a charity, somehow they need to make money. Since the iPads have good longevity and people seem to be upgrading less frequently, they need to do other money making tactics.
Are the new iPad Airs compatible with the old magic keyboard? I have a magic keyboard for my 5th gen air and hoping I do not have to buy a brand new keyboard
Thanks! I’m gonna downgrade my 2021 12.9 iPad Pro for the 11” M2 air because I want something lighter and smaller. Do you think the 11” air will be able to mag stick to the 12.9 Magic Keyboard? (Obviously it won’t be perfect and will look weird) I don’t really want to buy a new keyboard if I don’t have to and I’m afraid that stage manager won’t work unless it’s connected to a Magic Keyboard?
