Dude, so glad I found thid video. Just hit 40 I just started using Differin almost 3 weeks ago and you hit on all the things I was wondering about. Bevause of the irritation, and I think I was already irritating my skin before starting Differin, now I only use a moisturizer and sunscreen in the AM and then sandwich the Differerin between Cosrx 92 mucin cream and a thick Cetaphil moisturizer. So far so good. Definitely some irritation still, but getting better. Thanks for this and all the other videos 🙏

Very interesting! I have a 3 year journey with adapalene. I am absolute proof that it helps with both acne and antiaging. When I started, I followed Dr. Drays excellent advice and that was helpful in adjusting from retinol to adapalene. However, every tip that I have tried with reducing irritation, peeling, dryness, and redness has only minimized and not cured the side effects. I can't imagine what tretinoin would do to my sensitive skin. I have learned to use adapalene once a week to preserve the benefits and use a more gentle retinoid other nights. My skin tolerates the ordinary granactive retinoid emulsion 2% well, better than other retinol than I have tried. Now I am testing out retinaldehyde as well. I love the results of adapalene so I find once a week is enough. Because of the peeling, I don't need an extra exfoliation product other than salycilic acid 1-2x per week. I use a centella toner, snail serum, and niacinamide toner with ceramide moisturizer and that helps my barrier and soothes the irritation. Hope that helps someone

This is such great information for me as I am considering using Adapalene. I have some forehead closed comedones that just keep reappearing. I get them under control for a while, but they just won't go away. I also love TO Granactive Retinoid Emulsion. Have you tried any of the other retinols from TO? I just ordered the Retinol 5% to see how my skin tolerates it. Do you mind sharing which snail serum you use? Thanks so much!!

Woe hun this comment is so useful and I always say listen to your skin so if once a week is all you can tolerate you will still be getting great results but pairing it with a more gentle retinol on the other nights is such a great idea... @@Patti-1962 I think adapalene is fantastic and I highly recommend, I just wish I could use it more often. Its great for building collagen too and reducing fine lines and wrinkles over time. I have tried TO 1% retinol in squalane and it gave me a burn literally. I used it a couple of times in different ways and figured out that my skin can tolerate adapalene better than retinol. So far the retinaldehyde is working out well but its too soon to tell for certain. I use and love the cos de baha snail serum. I like to use it at nights

Hi Rob I haven't used adapalene and therefore can't comment on that, but I do agree tretinoin isn't always right for everyone. I was on tretinoin for well over a year (after two years on retinols and retinals) and after the first few weeks was tolerating it pretty well. That was until my rosacea got a lot worse and I had more frequent flares, meaning my tretinoin use became sporadic. Backing down to a retinal has meant I can use it far more consistently and that consistency is key to successful retinoid usage. I recently upped my strength from 0.05% retinaldehyde to 0.1% and hope to eventually go back onto tretinoin IF i CAN. If I can't though, it's not a disaster and I'm still getting results from the retinaldehyde. Not everyone with sensitive skin can use tretinoin and it took a lot of time and patience to build my tolerance. When my skin changed and the rosacea worsened I had to back off and had no choice. I was worried it wouldn't give me the results I had seen with the tretinoin, but whilst it is slower it is still showing those results. It also allowed me to maintain the benefits I had seen with the tretinoin, so that's also a win. Tretinoin has only really been available to more than a small proportion of the population in the last few years here, with the advent of online prescription services and that should also be factored in. Telling people nothing else works (in many comments on many beauty videos) is inaccurate and is a form of "skincare shaming" such as was recently talked about. Best wishes.

I have been using Differin for a couple months and I am still only using it 2-3 times a week (for anti-aging). I am just moving up to 3 times a week now. This is a much more affordable option then Tretinoin here and my dermatologist said in the end it does same thing just slower (something like that). He does not like over the counter retinals and just told me NO. I am on right track with Differin. He suggested I move up more then twice a week as my skin is doing well with it and said I could apply moisturizer before Differin as well if I need to to use it more often (right now I apply it after Differin). So I will move up slowly. Some may be able to use Differin everyday to start but my sensitive skin would of hated me and thrown a fuss if I did that, and fell off I think. lol Hope it has got better for you!

I'm trying to increase my retinoid strength (Inkey List was too gentle) but trying to decide between retinal (Geek & Gorgeous), tret, or adapalene (Differin). My main skin concern I want to tackle is acne and clogged pores, more than wrinkles/aging/hyperpigmentation.

Please do not forget the *PURGING* phase when using adapalene. When I used Differin, my purging was terribly bad and lasted for 9 straight months with almost no weeks in between that new acne took a break from. Every day there were new cystic acne and they were painful and inflamed under the skin. Some were not as hidden but lots of pus came out from them and left major craters ie boxcar and icepick scars all over my face. My dermatologist said this is expected unless I go on Accutane or some other antibiotics which I didn't want to because of an existing health condition. Thankfully I slowly found something else that slowed down new outbreak of acne and 10 months later I get about 3-4 new acne per week instead of 3-4 per day.

I have read that it is very important to start out only a couple of days a week then every other day at first. This is supposed to help if there is purging.
. I know that you posted a year ago and I am sorry that you had to go through that. I hope you are doing much better. I did not have that experience but my skin was likely in a different stage than yours. I have had some under skin comedones for a very long time. And scarring from past acne. I had not been in a state of regular acne breakouts upon trying it, although I had in the past. It has been very useful for my personal goals. The other thing that I began doing regularly was glycolic acid in the morning. Really helped a lot.
So yeah, I hope things have gotten better for you.

It helped but I didn’t get rid of the acne totally so gave up on it at one point. What’s been the game changer is Paula’s Choice BHA twice a day and Differin a few evening a week. Wow, finally my skin is clearing up and I’m getting compliments on how good my skin looks 😁

As we speak we have a second tube winging it's way to her. She can't be without it and totally panicked when she saw how little was left in the tube. In all fairness there's enough left for a few weeks but good to have it on hand so there's no lapse in using it. She's so afraid that her kp will flare up again on her face. Incidentally, I got mine on amazon US from a link that Dr Dray provided.

I've been on prescription Epiduo (0.1% Adapalene + 2.5 % Benzyl Peroxide) since December 2020, I mainly use it every night as a spot Rx on my jaw & neck acne and sometimes a tiny amount on my T zone. But OMG once a month I go overboard and my jaw starts to peel and my cheeks STING! I've now learnt to over moisturize my skin at night and not let my fingers travel from the Adapalene zones of my face to the sensitive prone cheeks zone when I'm moisturizing. I reach for a sheet mask whenever my skin has freaked out the most! But I'm so grateful this exists for my acne! As for my PIH, Epiduo hasn't worked yet :(

My question is, is differin something you would recommend specifically for anti-ageing? Or is there something better for this if you aren't concerned with the acne-fighting benefits of the gel. I also used that gel yesterday. But my dermatologist prescribed me a combination gel (clindamycin phosphate, allantoin & nicotinamide gel) today. She asked me to use twice a day. Is that okay Sudden stop of Adaplene gel. And start this gel??

So clarifying, thanks! Question: I've been using TO granactive retinoid emulsion 2% for a while now, 5 times a week (my first and only retinoid ever so far). It works really well and did not really experience any "side-effects" other than some increased congestion in the first 2 weeks which disappeared quickly. If I would want to switch to adapalene, has the retinoid from TO been a proper introduction to retinoid to make my skin used to it? Or should I start all over again with the quantity because it's a differint (pun intended) product?

Hi adapalene is much stronger than the granactive retinoid you've been using, so I would start off slowly at approx twice a week as suggested. You can see how your skin does and increase as tolerated. I don't/haven't used adapalene and instead used tretinoin, but the retinoids I had been using weren't nearly as powerful and I had to start slowly. I did have less side effects than never having used a retinoid would have perhaps given me, but still had to start slowly and deal with a lot more dryness initially. I hope that helps.

Hi hun, Loraine is totally correct and I couldn't improve on that advice.. I think its right to move up to adapalene if you think it will work better for you skin but go gentle with it... let me know how you get on xxxx
