Differin gel is a common first line medication used in the treatment of mild to moderate acne.However most people use differin gel wrongly and as a result, don’t get the most out of it.

I just started using this product (literally 5 minutes ago lol), I have very stubborn acne on my chin which has been there for years, I believe they are closed comedones. I've tried just about everything and nothing seems to work, I'm hoping the differin gel will. I also hear it's good for acne scars and texture irregularities, can you confirm? I've been using lactic acid and alpha arbutin (both twice a week) for 5 months- the texture has improved slightly but the acne scars don't seem to be budging
Update: I definitely see an improvement in my skin since using the product. I only apply it once a week now as I found I was overexfoliating and my skin got super sensitive and irritated. My skin is smoother and my acne scars are fading. I'll definitely repurchase once I run out. My chin still hasnt improved so I'll be visiting a dermatologist in the near future to figure out what's happening there.
Yes differin gel over time can help with these concerns but if you have persistent acne you could look into your skincare habits, products,diet and overall health, because some of these could be the root cause.

Hi doctor.. Very informative video. I just had a couple of questions. I have acne around my chin.. Basically the lower part of my face. Do I apply differin all over the face or only the part affected by acne? Can I use it daily? And one last question. After differin.. Can I apply my usual night cream for a night massage?. Iam currently using oils of life by body shop. Thanks a lot in advance 😀😀
Differin should be applied across the whole face. You start out once a week and work your way up

I currently double cleanse using oil based first then tumeric bar soap or cerave cleanser......can i still use my tumeric bar soap or should I i just use the cerave cleanser if i plan on using adapalene??

great video, after one week of using adaplene with a water based moisturiser my skin still feels a little itchy ,is there something i can do to sooth it?

@@DrJanet it's ok now I increased the amount of moisturizer and my skins all better, honestly it's just been glowing and I had a lot of blackheads on my nose and half of them are gone ,I am really happy with the results even though its just been 10 days.

@@monihussainy8457 I use it on my cheeks ,nose and chin (the areas where I breakout the most) I avoid under eyes, near lips and nose corners .I also use moisturizer before and after like a sandwich layer ,in order to avoid peeling or irritation.

Hii, thanks so much for this, so helpful. I am definitely experiencing the purge as all my closed comedones are now pimples, I haven't broken out in unusual places, just in my acne prone areas. I haven't experienced any excessive irritation or sensitivity but I am currently waking up extremely oily, more than usual, I know in the retinization period, it brings all the gunk, including excess sebum to the surface, is this what could be happening ? I'm almost 4 weeks in, using daily. Is there anything you suggest? Thanks so much :)
Since you aren’t experiencing any irritation just continue with your routine. Wait out the purge

Could be. It could also be a rebound oiliness from dehydrated skin. So ensure you are moisturizing properly

Using the moisturizer after the differin is fine. You can leave the aloe Vera for when you have an irritation

Hello I have a question. I am 48 yrs old. I have used tretinion cream 0.05% for the last 2.5 yrs but have had difficult time dealing with irritation. I still have enlarged pores, texture whiteheads and hyperpigmentation which I thought would have improved after 2 yrs. Recently I purchased OTC Differin 0.1% my skin is alot smoother. So I contacted dermatologists she prescribed adapalene 0.3% can you tell me the difference between the higher and lower percentage? I have heard adapalene 0.3% is comparable with tretinion 0.5%. Will adapalene help with anti-aging.
While tretinoin is the gold standard retinoid when it comes to oily skin Adapalene is better. It is more lipid loving and has been shown is several studies to effectively treat acne. Adapalene 0.3% is the prescription strength and is more potent and equally more irritating. Apply a moisturizer before and after and see if the irritates less. Good luck 👍
Something i don' t understand: we can't use products like benzoyl peroxide and adapalene together but why is there epiduo??
The whole premise is to minimize irritation but when ingredients are formulated together they are Made to be stable and work well together

I can understand the feeling, with retinoids it takes time. They are not spot treatments so they work from within to the outside. You can expect to see results anywhere between 3- 6 months.

It won’t take as long as you think. It may be a bit before your skin becomes completely clear, but you’ll slowly see your skin starting to clear up which will motivate you and lift you up.

Yes you could use a leave on exfoliant on those nights

You can use it forever for the anti aging or anti wrinkle benefits. But i suggest if acne is gone already i would switch to a low percentage of Tretinoin first.

After is my preference, but you can also apply before

Hii .. i just starred using Differin gel .. and i am the IPL hair removal user (philips lumea) and i read about it most dermatologist recommended that avoid Differin (or any type of retinoids ) 5-7 days before treatment and 3 days after treatment , so if i avoid Differin for about 10 days !! What happened my skin won’t get any benefits from it?? Please answer
The reason you were asked to do that was to minimize irritation. So you can use it

You could the toner after the cleanser in the morning. Then use the differin gel at night after cleansing

My skin got irritated after the 2nd usage of differin gel with three days gap in between. Rashes all over my face and the skin became super itchy, red and sensitive. I went with pea size and even sandwiching it between moisturizer. Is it just not the right treatment for me? Should I quit it or should I try it with different method.

Hii, thank you for this amazing tips about adapelene, but I wanna ask if it’s okay to double moisturize when using it. I usually moisturize before and after using adapelene but I’m not sure if it’s okay. I have a sensitive skin so please reply to this because I really need help.

@Dr.Janet, my face was irritated and super dry when I only did 1 moisturize and my face is worst now because it’s more red and noticeable compared to when I wasn’t using differen. But I started using differen every other day and double moisturize for about 3 days now but I still can’t tell the difference. I just want a recommendation of what to do. That’s all. Thank you for helping.
Step down on the frequency even more. Try using adapalene once a week and if it’s still really irritating then u can discontinue usage for now or switch to a product with encapsulated retinol like the cerave resurfacing retinol serum.

Hi so far I’m loving the Differin Gel I loving my face . But also I noticed the corner of my nose feel little bit dry . This is night skin routine since I started the gel . I double cleanse (sunscreen I use or make up). I use elf holy hydration cleansing balm then La Roche Posay toleriane purifying foaming cleanser ( for normal to oily skin) then pad dry my face then Niacinamide dew drops from Glow Recipe and wait until it absorbs then apply the Differing Gel and wait until it absorbs then apply my moisturize from La Rochay Posay toleriane (double repair Mayte moisturizer for oily & combination skin then wait until it absorbs and apply another moisturizer from Glow recipe . And when I don’t use the gel I use an exfoliating mask. Am I doing it right ? Should I use only one moisturizer ? How many seconds or minutes should I wait to apply one thing to another .
I think on the days that you are using the differin, you shouldn't use other actives like Niacinamide. This is what I have been doing and it has been working for me. Sometimes too many actives can irritate your skin, especially when you don't introduce it slowly.

hello Dr. janet! I have a lot of little clogged pores on my forehead and the top of my head (im bold). I think they come from my tick always touchin my forehead. I use differin gel now since 3 months and the pores dont seem to be be freed. they just got more little but dont seem to disappear. my skins also doesn't seem to get dry from the gel but it feels like it gets more oily after I apply the gel. at first I thought I was applying too much of it and I reduced the amount, but it didnt Change anything. Also I moisturize with cerave and cleanse with a cleanser containinf salicylic acid. Am I expecting too much after 3 months? I use differin only before I go to bed and I wash my face with the same cleanser and moisturizer when I wake up. I hope you can help me
I have the cerave sa cleanser and I have acne prone skin but I never tried to double cleanse before if I want to try it, so would I do it both morning and evening, I use differein during the evening, or only the morning
Double cleanse at night and then use your differin and moisturizer afterwards

You can do before or after. If you have sensitivity issues, apply before otherwise after is fine
What is the best soap to use prior to this use. I am using salicylic acid wash, then apply, and I see my face getting darker. Am assuming these 2 don't pair,let me say am using SPF50
salicylic acid might cancel out the adapalene active, so I would swap it with a more gentle one

benzoyl peroxide could deactivate differin. you can use the benzoyl peroxide in the morning and Differin at night. and if your acne is under control, you mustn't have benzoyl peroxide in your routine.
