My mom is helping me do a protection style now and I'm so shocked! I'm doing spring twist I feel like my hair has grown so much. I didn't even realize how long it had gotten to I blew it out.
Ahhh. I remember when my hair used to be this long and I took it for granted. Now I am barely to my ears after years of braids wigs and dyeing. Can’t wait to get my length back.
One thing that helped me with faux locs is using yarn to create a barrier. You can either braid/twist it in with with your hair, crochet at the base and loosely wrap, or crochet at the base and hold the yarn and your hair together when installing the fake hair. Works if you have loose or loc’d hair.
Faux locs are my jam and help grow my hair the most. I haven't tried wigs, but the last time I did box braids, I had so much breakage. I've been natural since I was a sophomore in high school and I'm 24 now. My hair has grown down to my lower back cause I've stopped using straightening tools and do minimal manipulation. I truly love being a natural hair girlie cause our hair is so versatile!
Omg that's awesome! Welp, diff strokes for diff folks. I'm glad faux locs works well for you, cause girl I wish! 😂 & yes to being natural for 9yrs you go! 🙌🏾 Absolutely love the versatility of our hair 💕
Protective styling helped my hair too. I cut all my hair off in 2019. I didn't do much except wear a scarf (on top of a bonnet) every day. Had a minimal hair routine.
Hooow LONG ur hair is!!! Its amazing seriously!! I love once they get so long it starts to elongate the strands a bit more!!! My healthy curls have mass shrinkage tooo ❤
Aw thank you ! 🥹🫶🏾 & yes me too. I like it because it's almost like a reward to see the growth from elongated curls, especially for the girls with tighter type 4 hair like me. Cause the shrinkage too real 😭
Yes ! So rn idk what that looks like so I need to research & test trail how I can grow my hair without protec all the time. It would be beneficial at least to know how. Agreed, it is over manipulation if you are Re-braiding every night. ( which I do in between protec styles ) If I find a routine to grow hair without using protec I’ll keep you updated & post a vid on it :) thanks
Maaaannnnnnnnnn I was trying to explain that detangling secret to someone, because I had the same revelation and it was honestly so beautiful! We have coils - they group together as a family of strands, they’re not meant to be separated individually. But back to the story, she would comb with…(pause for dramatic effect) a fine tooth comb!! A FINE TOOTH COMB. On her DRY HAIR. I wanted to cry. I tried to explain, but she was insistent it was necessary for her hair type. It was truly sad. Some people have said in the past that RUclipsrs for natural hair is oversaturated, but clearly it’s not enough! Thank you for sharing your journey and helping individuals like those out 🥰
Not a fine tooth comb ?! 😧 *gasp* *tiktok audio - you need to leave* Now a wide tooth comb I can understand a bit more but a fine tooth ? Chile ... I hear the caw of a bald eagle rn 😔🦅 for our fallen soldier. Oh well to each their own lol Glad you had this revelation as well & keep telling those who will listen and want to grow! 2:23 Biotin gave me cystic acne too! Remember that biotin helps grow hair, nails AND skin so over a certain dose (which is very small), the skin cells over produce! I stopped taking it & just started focusing on my retention routine because that acne scarred me for YEARS 😩
SO TRUE! Omg I didn't know about overproducing skin cells tho?! No wonder! 😩 Yeah just focusing on retaining length rather than speeding up growth in that 1 month span is way better. & I just found a product that's been fading my acne scars from all those years ago 🥹❤🩹 bless!!!
You’re not allergic to biotin love. We naturally produce it in our bodies. It works so well that it detoxifies our bodies and when you detox, it has to come out somewhere. If you’re not drinking enough water to detox through urine or eating enough fruit to detox through feces then it will come out through your skin. It’s just your body’s way of getting rid of what isn’t supposed to be there, which is a good thing. I’m a nurse so I understand these types of things on a scientific level.
@TheCoilyCode you are so correct! I used to break out and looked like a strawberry and then I started drinking a whole gallon of water a day and after a couple of days my skin cleared up completely and I still drink a LOT of water each day and no more breaking out 🤗🤗
So true about the faux locs I almost cut off FIVE INCHES OF MY HAIR The last time my auntie installed some never again.. I was literally inches away from cutting my hair and didn't even realize it

I didn’t even know I could grow my hair that long.. but unfortunately, since I have got it colored a couple of months before I had to get three whole inches cut off as I saw, there was a lot of split Ends.. and for a while, I gave up and decided to not even grow my hair anymore and I’m still disappointed about that now.. but now it has been confirmed that I can literally grow my hair in just twist! Now that I think about it, I think biotin worsened acne for me, too. I live in twists majority of the time. My hair is about 1.5 inches past my collarbone and this is the longest it ever has been. I don't comb my hair. 100% finger detangling. The comb is only used for parting my hair 😂 Never saw the point with how coiled my hair is. I also deep condition every time I wash my hair. I haven't trimmed my hair in over a year. I don't apply any heat to it so it makes no sense to me at this time. All of this has helped me immensely. :)
You my good sis, are indeed my curly twin ! This is like my exact routine & guarantees THE MOST GROWTH results! Wow good for you 🥳👏🏾 Can't wait to see you continue to prosper !
Thank you! I took Biotin as well In the past and developed acne on my back and shoulders.. 6 years later those areas are prone to acne. So never again. I hate that I can’t find a multivitamin without biotin. Drinking a lot of water didn’t work to keep it at bay either. But thank you for the tips
Ugh sorry to hear that sis 😥 & same smh they don't want us to be great lol but honestly it's okay because it won't stop you from achieving your hair goals. You can still grow long hair if you choose to. & ofc! 🤗
Biotin is a vitamin that our hair skin and nails are made of so you won’t find a vitamin without it. You may just need to get your vitamin levels checked because iron, zinc, vitamin d, b12, and vitamin e can also promote growth
I wash, blow dry and straighten my hair once a month. I wear my hair in a clip most of the time and only comb it when I can't get away with smoothing my hair with my hands any more. So I comb my hair like once a week-ish. If I had somewhere to go I would probably wear it out from time to time but I don't go out much LOL. I trim my hair and do protein treatments around every 4 to 5 months or whenever it's necessary. I don't deep condition because it takes long enough to do my hair as it is and that's it. My hair is waist length and still growing like crazy.
Oh I forgot to mention that being a straight hair natural has been working out way more for me. It's less work, I get less tangles and less single strand knots. So I agree with what you said you got to do what works for you. Your hair looks amazing by the way.
@@Ashley-rh2ol Yes! You go ! I am def not against heat at all. Personally, I want to see my curls long even in it's most shrunken state, but everyone should do what works for them. You can def still grow long natural hair while using heat and having it in a straightened state most of the time. It is possible. Good for you, that's amazing & thanks for sharing 🥰
I have definitely never understood when curly coilies talk about hours of detangling. I have been lazy naturaling most of my life and have never spent even an hour detangling... my natural hair growth goal was to wear twists without weave. I reached that a few years ago but a lover of length is never satisfied so I'm still trying to get it waist length
Yeah I used to be that girl detangling for hours smh glad I got lazy in that area. It's actually helped me retain more length lol & omg same! It's not super long though so I gotta keep growing them till they look like added hair ✨ Congrats on reaching that goal! A lover of length is never satisfied for sure. I think I want mines to my butt now 🫠 idk haha but I know you'll get there soon! Happy growing & thanks for watching! 🥳🩷
Also another con with a wig is the expense. I think wigs are (if you’re getting the decent ones at-least) can be very expensive, so it will be harder to change up the wig if you want something different.
the thing wth biotin is you have to drink A LOT A LOT A LOT of water or you will see yourself breaking out. Or take it as a low dose inside of multi vitamin
I just took my twist down, they were in 2.5 months and my hair almost locked. I washed my hair twice a month in those twist. I usually add hair, but I I’m tryna do the natural thing,I’ve noticed my hair grows faster and thicker without extra hair added. So I’m wearing my fro rn and I’m going to put the twist in my natural hair for a little while. I want to grow my hair thicker and longer.
Your hair is gorgeous! I also think your skin is amazing. Do you have anything “special” that you use or tips for healthy looking skin? I try to eat healthy & drink lots of water…🤷🏽♀️

I'm like you. Lazy, lazy, lazy. I also don't see much retention when I don't do protective styles. I shaved my head in 2017 and every year for 4-6 months I'd do locs. Because I need my curls for spring and summer. Now my hair is too long to continue using locs because my last take down process was too long for my liking. This year I'm entering into autumn with braids but I do prefer the look of twists, so might switch it up by December.
Yes yes haha but being "Lazy" is what works. It gives us actual results. Yes I've just recently realized my hair is too long for add in hair too. I can still use it but the take down do be a fortnight lol

@@amytarie. Girlo no...I mean I loc my hair. Lol. No extensions. Because I find it so hard to keep my hands outta my hair, that I figured if it's loc'd, it's stuck there for the next few months. Even though I may intend to keep braids or twists in for a longer period, I cave. Hahaha...so yah.
@lisacallender. Try braiding 3 or 4 links at the root then go into your twist. I do that and wear mine for a week. They stay very nicely. Could go longer but I like to wear it out for church then resist. I love the simplicity of wearing twists.
Do you put gel or edge control at the roots ? That's how I do mine & they last. Then when they begin to get frizzy around 3week mark I just do updo styles for another week to make 1 month then wash my hair and retwist.
My hair has grown a lot over the years, but I am constantly touching my hair. I'm talking protective styles every 3 days lol. Most people are, saying, 3 months, and I'm freaking out. Can I do it? I'm gonna try!. I'm going to do twist tonight, and I pray I can only wash it once a month. 😂❤ Wish me luck 😢
Protective styles every 3 days? ... Oh girl .. no 😭that's a low manipulation style. Yes, ofc you can do it! Start small with just 1 month and move up when you're ready. & you got this! I believe in you 🩷
This is a God send from The Lord Jesus Christ okay!! Like you, I was under the belief I had to ensure a comb went through my strand with perfection and seeing all the breakage I just knew I was doing something wrong! As long as my hair isn't matted or knotted it's detangled! End of story
Love the video, thanks! How do you keep your twists in for so long. I've tried several times and after a few hours they come loose and I have to re-twist. I even put leave-in conditioner and a grease seal in, but they keep coming loose. 🤒🥵😤
Thanks sm for watching ! :) It might be the direction in which you are twisting them ? If you twist them correctly they should not come loose. I am making a mini Twists vid. soon so i'll go into details on that.
I'm getting faux locs soon, and I'm planning on getting it done with the cornrow method of installation, is that the method you used or did you use the single braid install? Sorry for the longwinded question 😭
No worries! I used the single braid installation method smh I haven't tried it with cornrows tho so lemme know how that goes for the take down, yeah? 🫶🏾 Thanks!
What of people that just started growing their hair? If I pull my hair at the front of my head, it just reaches my lashes but it shrinks up just an inch
@@amytarie. I can't do protective hairstyles cause the hair is too short so I usually wear them woven or braided with attachments, are those good too Plus I have really dry hair and it just sucks up all the oil and moisturizer I put and no one got money to waste on moisturizing hair that doesn't wanna grow😅
@@_ifu_2007 braided w/ attachments is a protective style. That's literally what braids with added hair extensions are. Don't think about it as wasting money on your hair. You should want to invest in your hair in order to take care of it. Regardless, however, your hair is always growing as I mentioned, you just haven't seen much progress if you do not retain as much length as possible.
New subbie. And some genetic have people with thicker hair for example so their hair doesn’t break as much n their hair grows long.. but yeah don’t just blame it on genetics. Everyone can grow some kind of hair. I stated taking hair skin n nail gummies. I do one in Am other in pm with food n drink water. N the gummies isn’t crazy high in biotin so that’s how I combat the breakouts… or just take one a day Edit: I’m back. Again re watching lol. Make sure I’m still doing the right Stuff. did you talk about scalp massages that’s good. Or inversion method once a week/ yoga/ workout. Just because those things are supposed To circulate blood n get blood to the scalp N I have to blow dry my hair to keep it from tangling back. I tried the braid out to stretch n my hair was so tangle after just washing (but dry) I was raking away clumps of hair.
Yes this is true. I'm glad biotin in low doses in gummy form work for you. It still didn't work for me even in low doses. The only product I can remember that didn't cause acne is "Sugar Bear Hair" gummies. That mess was crack 🤣🐻🩵
No, b/c new growth is at the root. Unless you are picking your hair from the root ... if anything you may not be retaining a lot of your length due to picking causing breakage but the new growth at your root is gonna continue to grow. ( Hope that answered your Q )
Hi do you mean twists with braiding hair or just natural twists with your own hair? I used to get kinky twists as a teenager all the time but have mostly been getting box braids and crochet braids/twists these days.
I usually do twists with braiding hair however you can most def do it with just your natural hair twisted as well ! It doesn't make a diff as long as the style is twists or braids that you leave in for months ( 3 recommend ) at a time. I don't suggest going past 3 b/c it seems a bit unhygienic at that point ( to me ) & always wash your hair 1x per month in-between those 3 months.
I really like twists but i always forget about them because i have fine, thin hair. I usually only can get 3 days out of them and then they look frizzy. I'm also only able to do like 6 twists max and that look can be a challenge to work with.
Assuming you are twisting w/ only your own hair ... do you use pomade or hard edge control when laying your style to combat frizz & make it last longer ? Also why are you only able to do 6 twists? What's preventing you from installing more than 6?
@@amytarie. I've never thought of using edge control when I put my twists in but if it makes them last longer I'm all for it. And yes, I'm using just my own hair. Honestly I don't have the patience to do lots of small twists, and I can't section well. I need practice. 😅
@@heywaitMarlee oh okay, yes give edge control a try. Just at the roots, not down the entire hair shaft. It makes wash day harder & if not taken down properly with conditioner can cause lots of breakage. Use a softer hold gel like eco styler for the entire hair shaft your resting & hard pomade at the roots. & haha okay, yeah we lazy but not THAT lazy. If you do more than 6 the style should def last you all month 😭 pls give it a try. Then you don’t have to redo your hair so often either
Curly hair does come with a lot of shrinkage and it depends on your texture/type. Usually the tighter the curl the higher the shrinkage. Also "Long" hair is just perspective. It may not have looked long to you if you don't view hair to your butt as long. Maybe long hair to you and on you looks like hair down to your knees, haha only you can decide that. The "bigness" of your hair is volume. You can watch vids on how to make your loser 3a/b curls have more volume. If you wear your curly hair in a wash n go often try not to use gel, as it weighs the hair down. Hope that helps :)
Let me know what other hair content you wanna see 😌

One thing that helped me with faux locs is using yarn to create a barrier. You can either braid/twist it in with with your hair, crochet at the base and loosely wrap, or crochet at the base and hold the yarn and your hair together when installing the fake hair. Works if you have loose or loc’d hair.
Oh wow, okay yes ! Thank you for that tip cause I was like *sniffs* guess I’m gonna have to say goodbye to faux locs Foever 😢
You're so pretty! Hair and skin goals!!
Omg thank you sm 🥹💕 I really appreciate that
Definitely kept me entertained as well as informed. I love it.
Girl your personality is it! lol. Thanks and I love the music in the background.
Aw, thank you ! 🤭 & good , that means our subscription is subscripting ! 🫱🏾🫲🏼🎵
Protective styling helped my hair too. I cut all my hair off in 2019. I didn't do much except wear a scarf (on top of a bonnet) every day. Had a minimal hair routine.
Yes! 👏🏾 minimal routine + protective styling = Long hair ! 🙌🏾 you got the right equation !
Really trying to grow my hair without using protective styling. I love twist outs and braid outs but I think the over manipulation may be too much..
Yes ! So rn idk what that looks like so I need to research & test trail how I can grow my hair without protec all the time. It would be beneficial at least to know how.
Agreed, it is over manipulation if you are Re-braiding every night. ( which I do in between protec styles )
If I find a routine to grow hair without using protec I’ll keep you updated & post a vid on it :) thanks
Chile ...
Oh okay thanks for sharing!

Aw no worries, thanks for watching! ☺ Yes I do, however, I also sometimes just use my own hair. Just depends on how I'm feeling for that style of the month

Twist dont last even two days in my hair. It gets very frizzy and looks like I did them weeks ago.

What of people that just started growing their hair?
If I pull my hair at the front of my head, it just reaches my lashes but it shrinks up just an inch
You can grow your hair out long too :)
@@amytarie. I can't do protective hairstyles cause the hair is too short so I usually wear them woven or braided with attachments, are those good too

N the gummies isn’t crazy high in biotin so that’s how I combat the breakouts… or just take one a day

is picking out my hair daily harmful to new growth ?
Dermalmd Hair Growth Serum is the real deal! My hair has grown so much faster and stronger since I started using it.
Really ? Interesting .. I’ll have to give it a try
😢it's so odd. I had hair to my butt twice, but never looked long or big at all when curly. and I have the "3a and b"...never.
