1. Bleach, Highlights 2. Too much heat 3. No protection (satin bonnet while sleeping or silk pillowcase) 4. Tight ponytails (satin scrunchy) 5. leaving too much time between hair washes (tangly hair) 6. too harsh while detangling 7. never deep conditioning (once every week to one month) 8. water is too hot while showering (should be like warm) 9. no hard water filter 10. genetics
I use to have extremely split ends. I thought it was cool because they were lighter than the top(can please someone slap me in the face) Last summer I decided to cut my hair short just for fun. Now, half-year later, my hair is bra length ( it was chin length). I highly recommend using a bonnet. Your ends won't break!
My own hair growth journey I did this: 1. Scent free shampoo. Even baby shampoo is scent free. 2. Taoist soap for hair growth 2x a week. Stimulates hair growth, stops inflammation. Don't need to use much. 3. Nettle leaf tea 2x a day to remove hormones that get stuck in the liver and keep causing hormone imbalance. 4. Scalp massages 20 minutes a day at least. Must do daily. 5. Collagen powder bovine based is best. 2 times a day at least. Love what the video says about stopping treating your hair badly. Haven't seen such a good video talking about hair stress reducers. Very important and easy to miss.
I've never dyed, I detangle, moisturize and hardly straighten. It never stays down straightening or using a blowout brush anyway, so I don't know why mine never grows. It didn't look split when curly, so I hardly trimmed and was also afraid to lose length. My issue is probably diet, no cuts and dandruff or dry scalp. I wasn't sure about my follicle health. Idk if my top layer having high porosity has anything to do with something. I still need that water filter you showed us. I literally used to rip mine apart 😬 😭 but the RUclips community has TAUGHT me proper care lol 👏👏💯
Hey! I 100% recommend using some haircare with intense amounts of beneficial actives and applying that to your scalp-and your strands. I didn’t have the best diet-I never used a bonnet or silk pillow- and my hair went from collar bone to mid back. I used products that were nutrient rich-prestige hair brands that weren’t in the grocery store. No silicone fillers as that is a cheaper hair serum/conditioner.
to be honest i struggled with this 3 years ago, never dyed my hair never straighten it and barely used heat but it was stuck at shoulder length and i never retained length. I decided to chop a huge amount of hair off even tho i just wanted longer hair and never liked cutting my hair. 3 years later my hair is longer than it has ever been, I even dyed it last year and it's still healthy cause i have a weekly routine and make sure to do it even when i don't feel like it . I've also been using olaplex 3 since i dyed my hair and i feel like it really helped giving me "healthy"dyed hair. One thing i also don't shy away from is cutting my hair when i notice split ends which i never did before since i only wanted longer hair
I've been bleaching my hair like for 4 years now and in last 2 it is the longest it has ever been and I dont cut it often. I dont use chemicals only vegan and non toxic so everything is possible just being consistant with hair care routine and coloring only roots 😊🧝🏻♀️
True. The only difference is that hot water washes away WAY more of your conditioner, vs cold water which rinses less products out. There's a reason we wash dishes with hot water. Not cold. Not lukewarm.
Did you ever go through the stage of knots and matting in-between washes when your hair got longer? Noticing I'm always having to do braid outs to combat this issue, so rarely wear my natural curls now. Thank you xx
I HAVE THIS PROBLEM ALL THE TIME!!!! my hair is wavy/curly and a little longer than mid back.. I’m ALWAYS finding i get HUGE knots and matting at the back of my head especially when that area rubs against my clothing all day.. it’s annoying.. my hair lasts 1-2 days because of that 😢
Same. During lockdown I was regrowing from shoulders down and I ended up shaving from lower neck to ear lobes because the matting was so bad. I stopped doing that now but I don't know how to fix the matting/tangle problem
I’m 15 and everytime I would take my braids out, I would put relaxer in my hair 😭 and then I get so lazy and don’t wanna style it so I just use gel and then wonder why my hair ain’t growing!🤦🏾♀️
I think it's totally possible to grow long hair while bleaching it, since you can also grow long hair while having it relaxed (like Seun Okimi) BUT you have to baby it.
I respectfully disagree. Alot of ppl wanna know what to do to make their hair really long but it's really more of what you shouldn't do. Bleach unfortunately is one of those things. I had some of my hair bleached years ago and dyed turquoise it was cute but when I tell u it wouldn't grow properly bc it would keep breaking I mean it. It was bad. In that moment I was very glad I didn't do that color all over my head. I dyed my hair dark brown bc after a month I was over it I wanted my dark hair back it took over a year before that section of my hair was back to normal and it still hadn't caught up to the rest of it by then in length. And that was only a very small section like a little less than an inch in thickness and it was bad it was like watching the rest of it flourish and watching the damaged section regress. No matter how much I babied it nothing I did made it better it would still be very dry and it hurt to brush it bc it would get very tangled bc of the fact that it was so dry. So no hate but I couldn't imagine having relaxed hair on top of it being bleached I imagine that would damage even the most healthy hair.
Advice that I’ve gotten before is the mix up the styles that you do to help prevent traction alopecia. Personally I still wear my hair in a ponytail sometimes but I’ll also put my hair in a bun, braid it, or use a clip (like a banana clip or a claw clip). It keeps my hair out of the way without putting stress on the same follicles constantly which is what can lead to hair loss
Shes right no heat made a huge difference! I dont use regular conditioner anymore I only use hair masks and deep conditioners Then i add a leave in when wet I dont do tight ponytails anymore and when i put my hair up i dont use elastics but satin scrunchies Regular Scalp massages and hair oils are a must too!
Hi Lana, I hope you are well. I just discovered your channel and I am in love. I have been having short hair for about a year or two now, but I want to get my natural curls back. I want to grow my hair long again and these tips are really helping me understand what I don't want to do. I love your hair so much and hope that mine can grow to be beautiful like yours. Thank you for inspiring me!
My hair (while i did sweat too much) looked better when i used the silk pillow case. The bonnets are too tight around my head. I also dont pull my hair up in tight ponies my head throbs immediately! I trimmed the “see through” ends of my hair a few weeks ago and i havent looked at it once and thot oh no my hairs too shoet its actually touching my shoulders and looks and feels full and my plan is to keep it that way. Instead of watching videos thinking hmm i wanna die my hair etc - i got brush it. Braid it. Deep consition it! Oil it!! ANYTHING thats sinply caring for it because i know thats what i really want. I really am just craving touching hair playing w it. ❤❤
I condition my hair everyday. It’s a long story but I’m biracial and my mom is white and my dad is bald, so I didn’t know how to take care of curly hair. I used to shampoo and conditioner every day but I stopped that. I never got used to not get my hair wet, and detangling it every shower though. Anyway, is it bad to condition and detangle with my fingers everyday?
You should get a leave-in conditioner, regular condition doesn't keep curly/coily hair moisturized for every long and I'm not sure about conditioning and detangling every day, but I know most people don't do that.
I would just comb your hair wet like get it wet with a spray bottle or in the shower, and then detangle with a wide tooth comb. Then you can put a hair cream for moisture but don’t put to much. You don’t have to put conditioner in your hair everyday cause that can lead to product build up. Also if you have like 3a-3c hair you probably should only wash your hair 1x a week unless it’s really dirty.
with deep conditions, arent they supposed to be put on after you wash your hair? sorry im new to all of this so i just want to make sure i understand. like do yall wash it then put in the mask and wait out of the shower then get back in or does it not have to be on clean hair? also what is a clarifying shampoo or a pre-poo? i have 3a-3b curls with low porosity and i dont know the density. I'm new to this because I did a big chop. questions: 1,. how often do i use leave in? everyday? 2. what is a refresh? and what day do i do it on? 3. I want to do rice water treatments, diy. how often should I do them? how long can it last before i have to remake it? 4. how do i find out my hair density? 5. is clarifying shampoo and a pre-poo different? and how often do i do this?
Hi! I recommend paying attention to your hair and how it responds to what you're doing, a hair journal is a good idea. I would say use a leave in as often as needed. I am personally not sure about the "refresh" guessing it's water and leave in with some detangeling in-between wash days? There are tons of videos on rice water treatments, I forget the shelf life...I feel like it's a week... but I usually use Pintrest for my diy recipes. To find out about density and porosity I recommend Travell Lamar here on RUclips. Lastly a clarifying shampoo and a pre-poo are different. I make my own pre-poo and apply it before I begin my wash day, like any hair mask I make sure to coat my stands and cover with a cap. When you're ready to wash it out use a clarifying shampoo and then follow with conditioner. Right now I'm using a clarifying shampoo by Cantu and my conditioner is l'oreal and then I follow with a 3-5 min l'oreal repair mask, rinse and dry. I finish by working some jojoba oil(other oils like argan, olive, ect also work) through my hair gently finger detangeling and then put into braids or twist and then keep my hair covered until next wash day. Note: historical hair care is fascinating and worth a look into . I'm on year 5 or 6 of my natural hair journey and historical hair care is my current rabbit hole. Everyone's hair is different so I just want to reiterate how helpful a journal can be in helping you see what your hair likes/ doesn't like and also keeping track of growth and any diy recipes you try. I hope this helps, Good Luck on your journey!

Pin it up! Or braid it. And 2 pony tails are always cute when exercising.
Basically don't stress your hair its not dead cells its living
