Instead of being to use the internet to find clients, most places to do that shut down and many sex workers had to go back on the streets or use pimps again to find clients, which makes their work a lot less safe. True. I’m a woman who used to be a MLP fan, and if that site existed during the height of my fascination with the show I’m pretty sure I would have avoided it
Look, I know everybody’s heard horror stories of groups of fans doing immoral, “cringe”, and sometimes illegal things, or just starting civil wars or whatever, but these fans are always either individuals or small organized cliques of radicals that don’t represent the whole fandom. Every time such a story surfaces, the actions of the vocal minority are condemned by the 99% of good fans. (And by the way, arguing doesn’t make a fandom toxic. Arguing is healthy if handled well. If it isn’t handled well and emotions are taken too far, refer back to what I said about radical fans). Every fandom has a vocal minority, even if they don’t make headlines. You’re more likely to hear such stories from bigger communities, but the ratio of “crazy” to “normal” is the same across fandoms as per a statistical phenomenon called the Law of Large Numbers. People hate fandoms all the time, even though they most likely engage in fandoms themselves. Liking something makes you part of that fandom. And before you push up your anime glasses and tell me that “actually, fandom is short for ‘fanatic domain’ and I am a NORMAL fan, not a crazy fanatic”, may I remind you that denotation does not equal connotation, so while “fanatic” brings to mind images of crazy devotion, it’s just the long word for “fan”. Fan is short for fanatic (as per Oxford Dictionary, or Merriam-Webster, I don’t recall), like how rap is an acronym for “rhythm and poetry” but has become its own word. Also, a domain is just a group in the broadest possible sense, accurately capturing how large and diverse fandoms are. Therefore, a fandom is just all the fans of a specific thing. Your level of engagement in a fandom doesn’t determine how much of a fan you are. Fanartists depend on casuals who view their art, for instance. The masses are just as important as the creators. By hating fandoms, you’re also hating on people who have genuinely been helped by finding a sense of community by connecting with like-minded people. Fandoms don’t ruin things for you if you find the right people in said fandom to interact with. With bigger fandoms especially, it’s not hard. So this got thrown into my recommended videos, and I'd just like to add that a long time ago, back in 2014, someone affiliated with Bronymate sent me an email asking if I would like to do a "sponsor segment" for the website on one of my reviews. I was 13 at the time they sent me that email.
lmao my husband and I wanted to troll on this site so bad but the second I had to pay to read my messages we abandoned the whole operation. ah, memories.
I want a sans fangirl dating site where two sans fangirls can have a wedding where they get married, but they have it where they have a giant sans plush they dress in a suit that they both pretend to marry as well. I wouldn't be on it, I just want this to happen.
Always feel like it's important to state that like, *most* hookup sites closed down after FOSTA/SESTA passed. It's the same reason Craigslist shut down it's personals section. It's not indicative of them being traffickers, the laws made websites that hosted material related to sex trafficking criminally liable for it on the same level as an intentional collaborator, regardless of the sites policies, moderation, or willingness to help law enforcement with discovered instances of sex trafficking. It also made no distinction between trafficking and consensual sex work, and the net result of it has only driven sex trafficking to harder to find places and made sex work more dangerous for sex workers.
Pretty scummy of them to exploit a large group of people that were probably feeling very lonely... I don't want to generalise and say all adult MLP fans were the socially awkward type, but I've seen quite a lot of those people. I hope they're happy nowadays.
Well I can tell you I've been with my current partner for over 5 years and we met through the fandom. We're both autistic and what I would describe as socially awkward, but the fandom actually gave us a starting point to kick off of. A lot of my friends have similar stories as well ^^
Years ago I did MLP cosplays and attended ponycons as a guest and panelist. From time to time my friends and I were told our photos were being used on this site which led to us trying and failing to stop it from happening. At the beginning of 2020 I was reached out to on Instagram from the actual Bronymate account asking if they could use my photos, even offering to pay me for them until I shut them down with some choice words and they blocked me. This whole site was wild and so awkward to deal with as someone whose photos were consistently used. Had to turn down a handful of guys in my DMs and explain to them that they were catfished between 2015 and 2019.

Much of the time, the dating portion of a fandom scares me the most, especially since you have no idea who's on the other end. Often times it leads to disaster.
Honestly I have never heard a single person refer to themselves as a pegasister I've only seen people say that's what there called but every girl I know just calls themselves a brony
@Most-sane-deltarune-fan It doesn't seem strange at all to me. I use bro and man in my daily vocabulary. Like some gay guys use sister or girl. It's just words.
Is there any version of the word "bronymate" that doesn't bring up thoughts of them wanting to kiss horses? HorseHounds? BarnBoys? GallopGuys? NaughtyNeighbors? Those guys really can't win lol
Theres always something so scummy about preying on people who might be suffering from extreme loneliness just because of how vulnerable people can be mentally when they feel so lonely.
For most of the video. I was like, "BronyMate? Why does that sound so familiar?" Then you mentioned FurryMate, and I was like, "That's why." I even saw that super low quality ad for furrymate literally just the other day. Always screamed "scam" to me. And well... Apparently that's exactly the case.
I literally LOVE your channel Such interesting, unique, and well researched topics! Combined with awesome aesthetically pleasing over the top makeup/outfits and high quality video & audio & editing Just wanted to give you some well deserved praise💕💕💕
just for the record, the anti sex trafficking act in the States shut down a lot of things to do with porn and prostitution. it wasn't really about trafficking that's just the shield for a conservative anti sex moral crusade.
If I had a nickle for every time there's been a scam based around bronies dating things, I'd have two nickles, which isn't a lot but it's strange that it happened two times.
"brony dating site" automatically confuses me bc i need specific details. are you actually trying to get a date with another person w common interests? are you trying to find someone who'll have their pony oc/fursona/ponysona(?) "date" your pony oc/fursona/whatever? are you trying to date someone's ponysona? are you trying to roleplay? what is it?? what is the truth
My guess as to why this happens a lot to niche fandoms is the idea "Oh these idiots are desperate, they'll do anything". And while some might, more and more won't. While fandom culture is still niche, it's also more mainstream than ever. Gone are the days of fandom culture only existing of desperate nerds in mom's basement (not that some don't remain). So with more average people engaging in fandom, the desperate need for contact lessens because they can go to meet-ups and conventions. I think that's why dating scams are failing more nowadays. Or well, they were until 2020 due to all of the isolation.
this, and also anti-lgbt since places like craigslist personals and such had pretty significant lgbt populations. the sex-trafficing narrative was just a smoke-screen for moral policing.
Really frustrating to see a site shutting down because of it being treated as some sort of confession when in reality it just made it way harder to be any sort of sex-related site

Very informative and important info, this should have more attention.

Ah yes, scamming desperate people out of their money, the only real "easy way to make money quick" =/ Like, yeah, bronies can be "cringe" (and what fandom doesn't have its fair share of those cases) but I still think there's a line between making fun of people and defrauding them. I mean, for a comparative example, it's the difference between Tumblr cringe compilations and dashcon. Both not the best humanity has to offer, but I think we can agree that one is worse than the other.
I get that negativity is stronger than positivity, but you’ve got to fight that internal conflict for your own good. It’s your fault that vocal minorities of weird fans are never recognized as such, and are instead chalked up to the whole group.
Silence furry

Oh..god. you make so much more sense
Imagine having to go to the bank and explain why you’re being charged by a brony dating site
"they were all women looking for men, and they were all above seven when it came to looks" what a gentleman , I'm in awe.

that ad were the longest 49 seconds of my life
Sidenote: FOSTA and SESTA were also anti-sex work. And also, if anyone did human traffic on that website, it would be the websites liability
this, and also anti-lgbt since places like craigslist personals and such had pretty significant lgbt populations. the sex-trafficing narrative was just a smoke-screen for moral policing.
Really frustrating to see a site shutting down because of it being treated as some sort of confession when in reality it just made it way harder to be any sort of sex-related site
