- In this interview, Norman opens up about a lot. He talks about his struggles with addiction, as well as trying to survive while being homeless. He speaks about a withdrawal he had where the hospital drug tested him afterwards and no heroin was found. He has dreams of starting his own business and getting a popcorn and cotton candy stand. He's also waiting to get into housing.

I started doing drugs 20 years ago as a teenage, got addicted to heroin. Spent my whole life fighting heroin addiction. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 6 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.
Amen God bless people. Save your health save your mind. Life is better without heroin, cocaine, alcohol and cigarettes. And you have more money in your pocket. God bless everyone who has rejected the devils intentions to be addicted to alcohol and cigarettes etc which can cause so much damage to health.

That's awesome, man. Congratulations on getting clean and making it to 6 years. That's amazing, and you should be really proud of yourself. I agree with you wholeheartedly about mushrooms. I'm a huge proponent of psilocybin, and I believe it's going to cure (or at least help with)a ton of things moving forward. Where are you located? I'm in Maryland, and they're doing a ton of research and trials at John's Hopkins University.
YES very sure of Dr.alishrooms. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.

I've been homeless, in and out of prisons, etc. I just hit 10 years clean back in April. I know it seems overwhelming at times, but you can definitely overcome this. The first 1-2 weeks is the physical pain, body functions all screwed up, pain, discomfort, NO SLEEP for days, you go crazy, but the hardest part is AFTER that bad phase, it is staying clean. One has to keep busy, they have to get some sort of job to keep them occupied 12 hours a day, then only time to eat, shower and sleep.. Keeping busy and staying away from users is the trick. Kicking is short and hard but it goes by fast, within 30 days the physical pain is long gone, what comes next is that you simply have to stay busy with other clean people, No idle time. Many addicts that actually do that find they are super productive and become successful people.

There's no cure for addiction. It will always be with us. The therapeutic value of ONE addict, helping another..is without Parallel.

100%agree just went through it 6 weeks ago after relapsing after 20 years. All of the above collapsing after going down or up the stairs, the scary thing its not what they said it is anymore... Very easy mentally, physically up to you, with no script cold turkey. You Feel EVERYTHING,but like you said its keeping busy afterwards with positive things. All the best to whom-ever is going through it. " You are not in a deep black hole, you are just planting a seed " ME. ( thought during 1 of those 65 hour day of no sleep )🤣

Boy is he in for a surprise. Detox of Fentanyl is totally different& way worse. The detox wards have no idea how to treat it. That’s why most don’t stay. Today’s addicts have a very small chance of sobriety today. Bless him. Prayers are needed.

Fentanyl is harder, more painful, and for me caused hallucinations and shakes so bad the nurses thought I was having seizures. Wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy

That's how it is. Most people have no idea until it's too late. Unreal full body pain, sickness worse than you have ever felt, depression so bad you want to die. It's what we get from an addiction. No joke with that lifestyle.

It got me semi clean. When that stuff came out I started keeping to just a few old school rx hookups that I know get real stuff. It's not even a good feeling. The fent I mean.
@terryt2728 That's what I hear sometimes with some of the people I interview. It's definitely not the same, though. A few people say they can still get it, but the majority of it is stepped on now. I'd be dead if fentanyl was around when I was getting high.
As a substance abuse counselor in Baltimore, I can vouch for everything he says. Many of my clients come to treatment more for the housing than for sobriety.

I'm in Maryland as well. I was born and raised here. I was addicted to drugs myself for 18 years. I've been in their shoes before, that's why these stories are so important to me. I've been homeless, in and out of treatment centers and jails, etc.
I have a ton of respect and love for what you do. It's definitely not an easy career. I came home from prison in 2016 and went to Gaudenzia in Baltimore City. Then I moved to the new one that was opening in Crownsville.
Last month gave me 10 years clean. Thank you for all that you and the rest of the substance abuse counselors do. Don't hesitate to reach out if there's ever anything I can do to help. I love giving back.

Seems like a genuine guy and an amazing soul that’s been tainted by this society. Bet with some woodworking skills, a job, some tools, and dedication, he’d make an awesome woodsman and maybe even could build a cabin for himself. It’s the cities killing us. We’re killing each other.

I was lucky enough to get sober right as fetty really hit the streets hard. And it was over real quick for a lot of people and friends once it flooded the streets. I don’t wish addiction on anyone.
It's awesome that you were able to get out of that life. You should be really proud of yourself. I feel you 100% about the fetty. I was addicted to drugs myself for 18 years and just hit 10 years clean last month. Fetty wasn't around too much back when I was using drugs. I would've been dead for sure. I've lost a lot of friends because of it.

I was lucky to get off dope at the end of 2021 in Philly- the supply had transitioned to mostly xylazine but it wasn't as bad as it was now, but yeah the xylazine becoming more and more prominent was deff the worst its ever been in terms of side effects and withdrawal Something to be grateful for

Good for you for getting clean. I'm still on 10 mgs of methadone. I'm thinking about switching over to Suboxone low dose so I can get the sublocade shot as I would imagine that would be much easier to get off of than even low dose methadone?

this guy is a very knowledgeable and wise person. he reminds me alot of my dad before he passed away doing the same things this man has been doing. homelessness and addiction. i hope he can heal and get off this stuff and have some loving friends and family for support.

@galegrazutis964 It's a temporary solution. It's not like they get permanent housing forever. I can definitely see how that would be frustrating to someone who works, but I also don't think the answer is to just not do anything.
I 100% have been a homeless addict and I got clean so I wasn’t homeless. This guy has taken the easy street and has been waiting for a handout since 2013. I hate hearing that we should give these people a break. They’re on a break and we are one of the richest countries in the world and people are only homeless for that long because they want to be. How about go to rehab first then maybe a halfway house get a job and buy your own place. This guy is a straight bum 🤷

I was homeless for 3 years... I spent 2 years tapering down to 17 mgs and jumped off. Takes 6 months to get all the cold chills out. Cbd helps.

I have watched a loved one spiral into darkness. I was not a believer of demons until now. I can see the suffering in his eyes, but he's trapped by that demon. There is nothing anybody can do either. We can only hope some day he will be able to come out of his trance. If you try to intervene at all he becomes downright violent. I saw a look in his face I have never seen in 35 years, and it was pure evil. That was when we intervened and suggested that we can him get into an inpatient program. He had a great job, very nice car, and a promising future. Now he honestly says that he would rather be homeless (and he is) than stop doing that f**king drug. All because some asshole (man I wish I could find that MF) gave him some stuff that happened to have fent in it. That was the beginning of the end. That drug is so highly addictive - it's scary how fast it grabbed him and it won't let him go until it's destroyed everyone and everything around him. Evil. Plain and simple.

Absolutely love your channel. This man is 100% right. Its NOT real heroin like it use to be. Back in 2012 Scott Thompson police chief of camden nj told the media the heroin was over 94% pure. Seems odd that it all changed to synthetic. I feel it was planned

I find it funny that
A. they tried DESPERATELY to Schedule I "Kratom" (fairly safe opioid plant that some use to kick/maintain) back in 2017 and again after that on a state level. RIGHT when Fentanyl came here in the US heavy. - and hilariously failed, thank god. BOTH times the mass of people's testimony actually made the DEA back off (or so my naive ass chooses to believe)
But what I think is the real *kneeslapper* here:
B. The same pharm company that use to own the Patent/Copyright to brand name Suboxone (before it went generic a few years back) - *coincidentally* OWNED THE PATENT TO VARIOUS FENTANYL products as well...
could be me just reaching here but you decide. The entire opioid epidemic was 100% planned in my opinion. it'll come to light in 40 years like what happened with Crack in the 80s.

Fentanyl being everywhere is what made me stop after 25+ years. The effects just ain’t nearly as pleasurable as good old white/grey H. It’s a potent yet cheap garbage high.
I totally get it. Dope was never my thing, but pretty much everything else was. My main thing was coke, but fentanyl wasn't around like that back when I was getting high. I would've been dead. Congratulations on getting clean. I just hit 10 years clean last month myself.

Man,I feel you! Same. I absolutely LOVED the warm embrace of H and after the initial relaxation,I’d have energy to do stuff…as long as it was inexpensive stuff because addicts are always broke. But,the street fetty just made me drunk and tired. And,much like experiencing alcohol inebriation,I couldn’t remember my actions of the previous evening,sometimes. Never really enjoyed alcohol and since the effects were similar for me,I decided that it wasn’t nearly as fun as H and stopped using fetty. But,the withdrawals were a BEAST compared to heroin,which is already like traversing through Hell. Plus,the fear of Tranq being introduced into the product helped to scare me out of it,too.

@@unheardvoices_official Hi mate from london uk. Well done on the clean time.I was a drug addict from 17 years old to 50 when i went into recovery i am 70 now and got about 17 years clean. Its about the only sensible thing i have done in my life . Mind you i still chain smoke and used to drink heavily till about 3 years ago. At least you were human and felt the lonliness , i was so messed up and so alone that it became a way of life. Looking back being a loner was part of my DNA from childhood. I have made efforts over the last 10 years to engage more with people including my wife of 30 years who has had to put up with some truly ghastly times with me. Even to this day I find experiencing normal human emotions really really difficult indeed just feeling human is a daily challenge. Being homeless was a terrible time but really not worse than when i had money and a home and a job, when you are an addict the only thing that matters is the high and where to get the money to get that high. If you have money it just means that I was able to over indulge and when i didnt have money it meant that i would have to thieve to get it 2 sides of the same coin really. My problem was my self indulgent egocentricity and today i am left with the same overindulgent egocentricity that i now fill with other things other than drugs. It is a terrible thing to have spent a whole life so badly and then wake up at the end of life with the realization of how ghastly and selfish i have been with little possibility of righting the wrongs i have done to people.

Norm seems like a really smart and genuine guy. Nobody deserves to suffer like addicts do. If people only realized that drug use is just a symptom of the disease - then they might begin to understand that it is not a choice. Nobody thinks that they are going to get diabetes just because they ate something sugary. Addiction manifests itself in a myriad of ways. The drugs are actually "medicine" that, at first, seem to work and help to alleviate the feelings of low self-worth, anxiety, pain, etc. Please educate yourselves before throwing stones at people. We are all fighting our own battles.

Housing First Programs,Heroin Assisted Treatment( Diacetylmorphine Injections),Medication Assisted Treatment(Methadone,Suboxone,Vivitrol), Needle Exchanges, and drug law reform(decriminalization/legalization of heroin and cocaine).This would give government medical regulation and prescriptions for heroin to addicts so they don’t die from street chemists fentanyl mixtures.

The seargant knew I wasn't a dealer and bottom toll post of user, he felt bad I think as we talked and he could see I wasn't a thief or a liar and putting me in jail wouldn't help. I was just starting a program, him the judge and da made a deal, if I showed up weekly then 2 weeks then a month then 3-6 months, all was good, he asked when I'd be done? I was on a methadone program, still am, and just answered this is a lifetime fight to be sober, so I never was on probation and within 2 yrs. I no longer had to see judge on any regular basis and since 02 I've got in no trouble, sadly before 02 all I ever got were traffic tix.

Programs. lol. Progressive cities are trying but I think those programs get corrupted due to lack of oversight. Medical services are a joke here in the US. The focus is 90% profit seeking. Bare minimum service for illogical and irrational costs. Even with great insurance the service is the bare minimum or unnecessary. Whatever benefits the company most, not us.

Fentanyl withdrawal is INSANE! And now there's pink powder around, which is fentanyl cut with methadone, so imagine the dual withdrawal.... impossible, most will die without ever having a chance to get off.

And we were wondering why it was pink, then one of the guys ended up in hospital and they came back with a bloodtest asking him if he was on methadone bc they found a shitload in his system... he was shooting it. I guess from cartel perspective it helps prevent OD's and keeps their client base doubly hooked. Very fucked situation.
@@unheardvoices_official One of the guys thought he could get 500mg of methadone and withdraw himself not knowing he already had a methadone tolerance as well. I told him I had to take 28 8mg suboxone over the course of 48 hours to get through the withdrawal... no hospital or clinic would even consider such a large treatment dose. It's incomprehensible. I think the narcan in the subs helped knock all the shit out of my receptors, so precipitated withdrawal might be the quickest way to do it, but believe me I seriously considered running into a wall headfirst to end the torturous pain, and the only reason I didn't was bc my motivation to get off was to not die in the first place. Brutal. Hardest thing I've ever been through.

Heroin hasn’t been heroin for nearly a decade. I was an addict from 2007-2017 and I saw the fentanyl take over starting from the late 2000’s and my brother died from a fenty od in 2011. It became mostly fentanyl in the mid to late 2010’s and I got out. Apparently these people have never heard of methadone? 🤦🏻♂️

I started because I was utterly isolated, had made a suicide attempt, and knew no way to get help, BEFORE I did drugs. So I was looking for dope, and when I found it I functioned well for about a year or two. Learned how to socialize. Of course after that it was all down hill!
And it sure doesn't mix well when you find someone who loves you.

I was a heroin addict from 2012-2020.... Finally got on methadone and got off heroin.
I got off at just the right time too, luckily I'm in the South near Mexico, So there wasn't fentanyl yet when I got off. But even black tar has fentanyl in it now.

They don’t know what they take. Zylezine (tranq) is mixed with fentanyl….animal tranquilizer. Withdrawals are horrible. They don’t know how to treat it. It causes abscesses which leads to amputations.

That's what a whole lot of people do. They use methadone for pain management. I just drink 2 small spoons of kratom each day for the last 6 years. $100 worth lasts me 3 months.

Here in our hospital since roughly 2015 we've seen an uptick of nearly 700% in fentanyl-related cases going to the ED/ER.
This is purely anecdotal, but I feel it reflects a nationwide if not worldwide trend.

There's so many factors that come into play. Did someone working into their seventies make poor financial decisions, and now they're stuck working because they spent too much and didn't invest properly? One could also make the argument that they had a choice to find a better career that would've let them retire, but decided not to take those paths.
We're all guilty of bad decisions. Some are just frowned upon more than others.

I believe that a lot of these are such complicated issues. There's a huge mental health issue that doesn't always get addressed as well, which plays a huge role in a lot of this.
I'd be lying if I said I had all the answers. I surely don't. However, I don't think not to do anything to help with programs, housing, etc. is the answer, either.
