To me the horror is the mindset of these officers. They did not just lose it. It was purposeful. The lying comments designed to deceive, show intent. The officer who said he hoped they stomped him knew what was to come. They dragged him from his car with intent to punish. This was purposeful , it was commonplace. They went looking for a victim eager to hurt. To demonstrate power. They had been encouraged and the mindset had been fostered. I guarantee we will hear of past victims.

The verbal comments while they were assaulting Tyre were purposely said to mislead investigators on the audio record. They told him to get on the ground when he was flat on the ground, they told him to show his hands when they were being held behind his back, and so forth. Reportedly 3 of the murderers turned off their police cams. How many other audio recordings have had cops saying these kind of things on purpose to mislead?

Kelly Thomas was beaten to death by police in 2011. A homeless man with schizophrenia, he was loitering outside of a club when employees of said club called the police on him under the false pretense of "breaking into cars". When police arrived (about 6 officers), he complied with their requests but was tazed multiple times and savagely beaten. During said brutality, he cried out for help and his father. Left in a pool of his own blood, he was taken to the hospital and subsequently died of his injuries 5 days later. There was outrage but nowhere near as much as this case. Basically, a condition was created that draws the adventurous bad cops to the unit and it was not really a question of if things would go wrong, rather it was the question of how wrong things would go.

This (to me) is the terrible conclusion of months (possibly years) of bad policing without accountability. You can only get away with something so many times before you get caught doing it.
People need to come forward! problem is, if you are already in jail because of the misdeeds of these officers no one listens to you! They just say "yeah, yeah we know you're innocent" when in fact they may well be. We heard them say that when Tyre was pulled over he swung at the officer, which was not true and we saw another officer say Tyre went for another officers gun, also not true. Police come out of the academy as idealistic rookies but when you deal day after day, month after month, year after year, with criminal people in terrible environments, it is understandable that just as you wrote, cops can become jaded. They begin to assume everyone is a criminal or at best, a potential criminal. This applies even more to black people due to the factual rate of crime in the black community but the psychological process is general. I suppose the only way to deal with it is for the department to have ongoing activities to train against this process.

This was old fashioned police brutality. The feeling that if you run, or fail to comply, you deserve a beat down. Some kind of rage that you dare to disobey. This is the kind of brutality that happens to everyone that doesn’t immediately comply, or runs because they’re scared. I’m a 57 year old white guy, and I’ve seen this kind of rage. I can’t imagine throwing the racism on top of that. Until the “good cops” stand up to this, and the unions stop defending the bad cops, I don’t see the getting better. It’s alarming how many videos show this kind of behavior. It’s not isolated, it’s rampant. Kudos to the local government, and this police department for addressing this quickly, and immediately getting these guys off the street.

Whites hate whites and people of color, people of color hate whites and other people of color, it's such a terrible and sad condition and it's going to take all of us of every ethnicity and color to drown out the hate including some that is encouraged by some of our media.
