    The point that people seem to be missing is that , these worldly things are not the focus of Christianity. People use Christianity to complain about the political situation, but it isn't Christian.
    Also what most Americans don't realise is that foreign aid is often actually repayment of debt. It's called aid and put into that budget so that the UN aid requirements are met. I.e. A number of years ago Pakistan agreed to provide base accomodations for the US airforce and to contribute a certain amount of support in effort afainst the mujahadeen and Taliban in Afghanistan. Nevermind about what Pakistan could or should have done, they did fulfill the actual terms of the contracts. The payment was unilaterally renegged on by the US except that a slightly lower amount was then donated to Pakistan via foreign aid. It was the payment for services rendered in charitable clothing.
    The US, Canada, and the UK make large foreign aid contributions as part of membership in the UN, but they all contribute less than half of what the UN requests. This is all part of strategy, negotiation, and diplomacy. These things are done for the benefit of each country. The US's participation in the UN and aid programs etc. directly benefit the US in a number of areas including the trade that allows it to be a wealthy country, in ways that the average citizen doesn't have the time or energy to study, learn about, and get involved in = most people don't understand it.
    What the US could do to provide better for emergencies is have corporations and billionaires pay a similar percentage of their income into the public treasury as the average working class American. Another thing would be to pull some resources from the Pentagon's Trillion+ $ annual budget in the form of National guard and engineer corps administration.
    These days we are demanded to be politicians and broadcasters = we have to have and share very strong opinions on things that we don't actually know much about.
    The vast majority Americans believe they could pass a 4th year political sciences program today, but less than 1% of Americans actually have the education and experience to do so. Most would also fail a 4th year theology or bible studies program at an accredited/ internationally recognised university. As frustrated as we may be, this is where Christianity actually comes in. We can take the example of intellectual humility from Jesus. From "Why are you testing me like this... who's head is on the coin...?" to "thy will be done, not mine". It's ok to be frustrated and even mad at god and have our "Father, why hast thou forsaken me?" moment. But we don't need to pretend we're something we aren't or shout communist or demon or whatever other boogeyman name we like at everyone who's opinion, policy, or way of life we don't understand.

      @themicdropprophet  2 дня назад

      @@uscitizens1forever Also I have lived in poverty from the age of 12-19yrs. The electricity and gas were shut off frequently. The roof was leaking. There was a hole in the bathroom wall the size of a soccer ball, I covered with cardboard, trashbags, and, duct tape. There was no insulation on that wall and the pipes froze constantly as result. Showers in the winter? I showered maybe once a week because it was just to cold to bare. Then in my highschool years our water pump stopped working. We went to an outdoor spring (that a gracious land owner left open to the public) and loaded up 15 to 20 milk jugs to talk home to live off of. And I only got to shower at friends houses at that point. Food? I was constantly hungry though we had food in the house I was malnourished. But thanks to Michelle Obama's school lunch program, I was full after every school lunch (it tasted bad but obvoiusly it was better than what I got.)
      As a young adult I worked for $9.25 an hour at a Subway. I used only my tip money for food and essentials from the Dollar tree. In about 9 months time I had saved $6000 in my bank account.
      I was on public assistance for a short while but continuing to save every penny got me off. Finding a retail job with decent health coverage put an end to any assistance I needed.
      Now whenever guests come over I make sure they have access to my fridge. I carry water and nonparishable food in my car incase I see someone homeless. Because I know... And I want them to know that they matter to someone.

    I completely disagree with your view point. To suggest that Rome taking money from a subset of citizens and using it for Rome still is the same as taking money from the entirety of a citizen base to fund wars on foreign soil is crazy. The tax structure is set up and pushed with the expressed intention that it is needed to help the citizens that need that help. I have yet to see any person/entity in the government propose a tax for the expressed intention to go to not only foreign allies but also foreign combatants. Our government was set up to be by the people, for the people.

      @themicdropprophet the reason it is a false equivalency is because the money is being sent to what many would call evil or less than moral regimes that does not actually help the people. If you want to live in a fantasy that the countries we give aid to does right by its own people go ahead. Hate to be the one to break this to you but most leaders in most countries will do just enough to keep the people subdued. We should not be providing funding to countries for their wars (some of which would like to see the end to Christianity and the USA). The issue is not about Christianity it is about ignorance. Believe things are different than they are if you like, me personally I will fight for what is right. This is already off topic though. The fact remains that the taxes from the people that pay them should be used for said people in times of need that are outside of their own control. If you need to tell yourself that the money we send to these other countries is doing good so you can get through the day, that's on you. I will not lie to myself to make me feel better about the misuse of our government funding.

    Sorry you're wrong - removing the religious context, we need to stop funding wars and oversea conflicts. Do we really need to fund gender studies in Pakistan (you can fact check that), or should we help those in the country who were effected by the hurricane? If we stop creating conflicts in other countries, they would not be needing our help.

    Tax dollars are not charity, no matter how they are spent. They were taken by force. If I take your car and give it to a homeless person have I done a good deed? Have you done a good deed? It simply isn't charity unless it's voluntary. There are some valid justifications for foreign aid, but Christian Charity simply is not one of them.
