Being on social media now, I feel like I'm comparing myself to everyone. I keep seeing people getting into grad school, winning fellowships...doing big things in general. And I feel so behind and like I'm not doing enough. I definitely need a break :/
This is rarely talked about in society, people don't want to acknowledge that they're constantly receiving unnatural levels of stimulation leading them to be unable to focus on tasks that demand focus and delayed gratification. We all need to recalibrate our brain! Particularly those born into technology.
Social media is now part of human life, we never quite it. But we can change it "time wasting" to "time utilising" Here are step that i follow: 1. Don't follow any celebrity on social media 2. Mute notification all social media app(even i put my mobile silent always) 3. Follow some useful pages or account on social who add value in your life (like geopolitical page, coding updates page) 4. Don't take part in comments fight 5. Don't post your photo or status regularly on social media because it give more fomo
🔖 Wanna try out the detox for yourself? Here are the rules I followed: 1. Uninstall Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, TikTok, Clubhouse, etc. 2. Deactivate Facebook account 3. Block social media and news sites on your browser 4. RUclips is okay 👌🏽
Even better: Delete your facebook, twitter, reddit, instagram, etc. Screw 'em. I am unfortunately addicted to youtube and discord. I have very good, engaging conversations on some discord servers and check it far too often. I'm also addicted to chess on my phone haha. Could be worse.
I stopped using social media through the working weekdays and that helped me to finish studying for my examens months before exams and also finished my tasks way before my deadlines. So I can confirm that it really does help.
I faced the same problem too so what I did was I removed all my yt accounts and created a new account for only studying and my hobby football nothing else
I quit Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter at the beginning of this semester. My problem was that I would get sad seeing people being social and hanging out with friends and would start comparing myself, since in general I tend to keep to myself. Quitting has helped me a lot, since I feel I've been a bit more invested in my work, and I now also use that mental energy to watch more TV shows and more educational videos. I keep Reddit and LinkedIn for professional reasons
Last year I deleted all my social media and I have never felt so good, it was like being cured of some illness, I am happy to know that others are going through that experience and also feeling better
I loved this video, I quit social media for years whilst I was at university, and it was so liberating, I really struggle with the balance now that I create my own online content. I love the idea of deleting the apps and only using them if I need to post. Right now what I do is have set devices for set things- so I only go on social media on my iPad, which really has helped to strip it back for me as I don't use my iPad nearly as much as my phone
Very good tip. I removed my work apps from my iPad so I could use it more for reading and learning. I kid you not, I have bought close to 40 books on Kindle alone-not to mention my iBooks library-and have yet to read any of them because I jump on Twitter, and although I find great resources for work, I don’t spend enough time with long-form reading or books dedicated to one subject. I need to work on that.
Social media is the worst. I deleted all of the "big" stuff like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and don't miss it at all. Still have Reddit, but I only go there on purpose during my morning coffee and in the evening for a bit. Same with RUclips, it feels so much better to visit the Subscription tab and see a couple of new videos than going down hour-long random video rabbit holes.
I'm researching digital minimalism for a piece I am currently working on. I am always pleasantly surprised when I come across a talented creator who crushes storytelling, editing, and writing. Great job! It is no surprise that you have a following.
I'm totally trying this, do you count youtube itself as social media? I think some people do. Been thinking about it for awhile, but your video gave me the nudge I needed to finally try this, thank you!
Hmm, I don't count RUclips as social media; I consider it to be more like Netflix -- just a streaming service. So I still was watching plenty of RUclips this past month. Good luck with the detox!
@@harshibar Thank you so much! This definitely gives me oodles more time to work on uhhh everything lol 😅 Love your channel, thanks for being a good influence on me 🥰
I saw Yogi got sick because of this social media detox😂How is he now? BTW I also tried doing it for a year when Matt D' Avella posted a similar kind of video and it felt so nice!😇
I know, it is stupid, but I didn't use a social media for 30 years, and decide to try now. Is any start guide to social media in your head? Please recommend.
It really depends on what you’re looking for and who you want to connect with. If it’s influencers and thought leaders, maybe Twitter. If it’s friends and celebrities, maybe Instagram. If just old friends, Facebook is your best bet.
I’m with you about increased happiness with a social media detox! I have all the apps blocked after 8 which is when I tended to doom scroll, and during the work day I have a very strict work and break schedule. This helps me keep the apps at a distance so I don’t feel dependent on them
The only apps I could detox from are Instagram and RUclips. Fortunately I never really understood the purpose of most of the other platforms 🤦♀️ ... Snapchat and TikTok are still a mystery to me. Twitter threads are just too confusing to read. And Facebook is kinda dead for most people my age (my dad uses it excessively though 😅). Reddit is probably the only one that I'd say serves a purpose, because it can be used as a research hub too.
I deleted social media Nov 19th. Best decision ever. I would find myself spending more than a hour on my phone just scrolling, thats time wasted and I could have done something productive!! Now i just use youtube, But to me youtube is a tool. You can learn so much, stay up to date on news, if you need to learn how to fix something around the house even your car, or new recipes!! you hit up youtube!! Its been great so far no regrets with my social media detox🙌🏽
Hey! I would like to express my deepest gratitude to you, because for about a week I have been doubting my decision to remove social networks. I realized that the factors that were stopping me were empty excuses to get more light dopamine. You know, your phrase "instead of flipping through photos of Samantha's garden, I started growing my own" touched my heart and shocked me for a while. And after all, it concerns not only the garden. Thank you, now I definitely give up on social networks / I translated this text using an online translator, so sorry for the mistakes /
I need to try this again. I've tried before but I usually give up after only a few days. I waste so much time, on Facebook and Reddit especially. Most of the time I'm not even interacting, I'm just mindlessly scrolling.
I haven't posted anything on social media for 2 months. you focus entirely on books. 5-6 books per month can be completed easily. concentration is increasing. the idea is developing. you learn science. And you realize that 90 percent of social media just doesn't make sense. now I just go in, share and exit to share my projects. Another option: Set a limit of 1 hour per day. Second option: find an alternative site. I prefer to read articles on medium.com or listen to audiobooks on stortyel instead of social media. I watch documentaries that I should watch. So it makes more sense to replace social media with something else.
These experiments people do always interest me but the thing I always come back to is: isn't that just behavioural control? I find it a little funny at the end when you say follow me on social media or don't when you just spent a whole video saying you're going to spend less time on it.... just an observation 😁
You’re definitely right! I think because I lacked that self-control, I had to do the detox to reset my mind. And the ending - I agree haha. Such a struggle as a RUclipsr to be off social media when my job relies on it 🙃
@@harshibar agreed! Would you be up for talking about that some time on a livestream? (I tried reaching out before but I guess you were in your break 😅)

RUclips for me is source of video content than a social media.

Oof. I also started going on RUclips a lot more (maybe 1-2 hours a day though)
Same symptom. But RUclips is not as bad as Facebook.
🤣
Lol i can relate.
I do the same but I think it's not that bad. Depends on what type of videos you're watching.
