Good idea!! I"m doing the same. I've found some good and interesting books to read. And you also have to get to where you don't worry about losing friends if you don't text. I don't text anymore on my phone.
literally the best advice. once i started reading couldnt stop ! even though i don't always read "beneficial" books and mainly thrillers (cuz i love them) it allows my brain to use my own imagination
thing is, i read a LOT. but it‘s all fanfiction. on my phone. it‘s probably better than just scrolling on tiktok for hours, but i‘m still just on my phone for ages and new books can‘t hold my attention long enough for me to finish them while i‘m still hyperfixating on a specific piece of media
What makes me the saddest is people walking their dog or little children while on the phone. They're not bonding with these beings who crave and need nothing more than connection. They deserve better than your phone-addicted zombie self.
oh yeah i am almost crying every time i see a dog owner walk and sometimes even pull their dog while being on their phone. like, they probably adopted their dog in the first for the reasons and needs that are now superficially covered by their phones :(
I feel so disgusting. I have been bed rotting for so long, I’m so depressed and I can’t even hide it, I am so empty. I feel disgusted that I can’t get out of bed and I just keep scrolling
I’ve been there. It is difficult to get out of the cycle, but it is possible. Start little: sit on the bed for a couple of minutes, breathe in and breathe out; when you go to the bathroom, leave your phone there, it’ll make you get back to get it... I know these examples seem worthless, but it is easier to start with simple things. Don’t feel disgusted, you have a role to play in this world, may be small or big, doesn’t matter the size, it’s important. I hope you get better soon, lots of love to you. I’m a christian, so I’d like to share a verse in the bible that has helped me remember that many have gone through what you and I have experienced: Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day's journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, LORD," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors”. Then he lay down under the tree and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, "Get up and eat." He looked around, and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you." So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. (1 Kings 19, 3-8) This story has helped me because it shows that even 2.000+ years ago, people felt the way you and I have, and even asked God to let them go. But even then, they were able to recover and reach their destination. They had to walk and rest, so it took days to get there; slowly but steadily they arrived. I wish for you the same, get well soon and have a wonderful life 🙌🏻
i also struggle from severe depression. never forget: IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. i don't have any great advice, but any step forward is progress. every single step of the day is progress toward feeling better. try not to beat yourself up too much ❤️
I like RUclips because I actually like watching videos about health and fasting but I deleted all my other social media apps and it’s helped me drastically
When I came to this country that’s exactly what I said. That was 15 years ago. As I got older, I told myself at 20 years old, 2020 and seeing all these courses. I’m like “we are learning how to be human. that’s crazy.” the thing is that’s our normality you know. Now there are communication courses because people have fear of speaking meanwhile it’s a natural habit we do. It’s just society has suppress us into “uncomfortable.”
About to turn 20 on Nov 1st. Started my social media detox today. I wanted to get back into skateboarding so that was the main reason for me but it is cool to see people in my age bracket doing this. :) I hope both of you have a great day/night.
@@heyrob1nAhh I turn 20 a day before you!! I got on my skateboard again for the first time in months (years?) a couple days ago and it felt super freeing! I need to ride it again today ty for the reminder
Just turned 20 the beginning of this month and I felt my teenage years were wasted, being stressed and full of anxiety, constantly comparing myself on social media etc. I wanted to take the last few months to really try and practice and get into a habit of bettering myself and I think next year starting January I’ll fully go on this phone detox. Pandemic 2019 and getting TikTok really didn’t help with the whole gen z being addicted to the phone thing and I hate that I’m a product of it. I wanna live life actually and not fantasize it through a phone and rot away. I really think this video was very helpful and it’s comforting to see ppl around my age trying it too
I literally deleted social media and started cleaning out my closet and now doing things I have just been holding off. Getting in Gods word & Hoping to go 6+ months more with it

“I don’t think you should quit social media at all” “ we’re trying to take control back our life” got me interested, I loved this perception- a more practical approach
its the same with eating healthy, you dont wanna stop eating (as most people do for weight loss) but rather find the best way for you to use it to your advantage instead. simply quitting an addiction never works either, thats why its an addiction :D
@@walmartbubbles1019 Actually, there is a place in Nicaragua where they have communities where people do NOT use cell phones. They have landlines and I think they have pay phones. I want to go one day to see what it is like.
some advice to end ur Phone addiction : don't brought ur phone with u if u don't need it exemple (go to eat ; go on toilet etc) ; don't use it on your bed and your desk if u can
@@WouiskeyTv You're very welcome, though I never have taken mine to the bathroom with me or taken it to look at while in bed. I just made another comment on here where I said I don't even get the internet on my phone and I"m fine with that.
Im 13 years old and already detoxing, social media is just draining. It feels like a waste of time, I rather work on myself and help myself grow into adulthood with healthy habits!
Thank you for this video. I am currently 17 and developed a phone addiction during the pandemic. As the years have gone by I've felt like I've slowly been losing parts of myself, my hobbies, my drive. I only recently realized just how bad a problem it is and became terrified that I had irreversably stunted my brain developement. This video gives me hope. I'm going on this detox and am determined to find myself again.
I'm in the same spot. Had the issue of not having much to do during Covid, and got addicted. Now as a pre-med student I feel like I have no time, but in reality I do I'm just using in inefficiently. So keep up the good work on getting off the habit, and stay both positive that you can do it an confident in your choice to get off it. It'll be better in the end of it!
Good for you, OneSmalljellyfish! You have no idea how many people in my area have this serious addiction problem, too. I wish they would do what you are doing.
"we're all addicted to our phones" that rlly hit me since the moment i heard that, i looked around the room and saw my family just consuming the internet and their phones. this scares me
I realized I spent less time on my phone than my parents most of the time. My dad uses her phone to learn stuff my mom runs Facebook groups sorta other than that she's scrolls. I use my phone for an alarm, contacting my family, pictures of things, music, and learning stuff.
this but when I see my little sister using her phone or laptop like 24/7 😭 she keeps going on about how she's excited to finally have tiktok but I really don't want her to get it cause I know how it's ruined me and don't want her to ruin her own life like I have
I actually deleted all of the social media apps off my phone after watching your dopamine detox video two days ago. I'd say that so far, I've been more productive and present. I also got my screentime from 12 hours a day down to 2 hours a day, and I've been feeling a lot better. It hasn't been long since I have deleted my social medias, but I definitely feel more motivated. Great video as always.
I had a professor in 2020 who gave us enough extra credit to bump us a letter grade if we would give up all social media for the semester. It was the greatest semester of my college career! I had way better grades, more friends, more calm and peace, more confidence, more self control, I was more active, slept better, and had so much more fun! Now, I’m a mom and deciding to take a break. I don’t want to waste away my time with my 6 month old baby. He deserves a fully present mother who has all those things again. I’ve spent the last 6 months being anxious and stressed over what a total stranger on the internet has to say about all the right and wrong things to do for your baby. It’s done more harm than good! I love everything you had to share! I started my break 3 days ago, and I feel the lows of not getting that dopamine hit all day, but I’m filling my time with more meaningful stuff!
I have had only RUclips and Pinterest on my phone for more than a year now. For anyone who is thinking about doing this DO IT. Do it and see how you feel afterwards because it is SO worth it. You have more of a sense of self, a better memory and focus and you feel like you are alive again, truly.
@@Daveeff delete youtube and pinterest on ur phone and use it on ur laptop or a device that is not always with you 24/7, i just wished youtube would have an option to disable shorts then i would redownload it but thats very unlikely
This guy is wise beyond his years. I’m almost 24 and have been addicted for years and have attempted to quit so many times. Just the fact that he said out loud things I’ve asked myself on this topic is so empowering. My notifications are silenced and I’m deleting RUclips-on my way to subscribe to this channel on my laptop, at my desk.
As someone with severe ADHD this video helped calm me down a lot. I’m scared to delete YT tbh bc that’s the one thing that my ADHD really gravitates to but it’s got to the point where my entire life I’ve been addicted to my phone and social media and I’m just wanting to actually make something of myself instead of living vicariously through others. Wish me luck! Thank you for this video. 💜
The way you refer to “ADHD” seems like your describing the desire to focus and carry out action, not being judgmental, just seems like from my perspective there’s no need to label a characteristic of human nature as as disorder.
@@ripwinter562I think you might have misread the comment… they haven’t described ADHD, they just have the desire to focus - as well as ADHD, which makes it significantly harder to carry out action. I also have diagnosed ADHD and I relate to the idea of RUclips addiction more than anything else online. I have avoided social media, but I waste so many hours at a time on this platform. After watching this video, I am deleting the app. I have finally realized just how destructive it is to my life and my goals. I think I made up my fully when he mentioned the thing about opening an app with a specific video in mind, because I often don’t. Anyways, I am looking forward to the self-reflection and (hopefully) better productivity. Good luck everyone, wish me luck as well - let’s hope I don’t just find another outlet - and with that, goodbye.
I used to argue that I need IG and crackbook because I can get information and catch up with my friends. Lately though, I’ve found IG makes me upset due to all the depressing things happening in the world and all the fighting people do in the comments. I think I need to do this detox and get back to reading the Bible.
Its so nice to hear how many people recognize how harmful social media actual is. Everyone needs to see this video. I've been doing this detox for the past month and it genuinley has changed my life even in this short time. Because of work, i kept Instagram on my phone but I'm rarely on it. And even now, I'm only watching youtube on my laptop and not on my phone. I'd recommend this to literally everyone. Life is so much more fulfilling
You actualy can disable shorts. You just need to go to the history tab and pause + erase your history. It disables shorts and the home feed because RUclips needs the history information to give you personalized content based on your preferences.
my uncle has never had social media. my mom used to always say it was weird and I genuinely believed her. now that I'm older and chronically online, I admire the fact that he doesn't care what people think and does what's best for him.
It’s been 22 months since I left social media. I have no regrets at all. I got sick of people gossiping, drama, negativity & people faking their lives & friendships and sharing everything that should be private or craving attention with provocative pictures & selfies. A number of things I realised: 1. People who added me as “Friends” didn’t really care about me. They were “So called Friends” 2. When I was going through my hardest times, including anxiety, upset, trauma and stress, Nobody was REALLY there for me or reached out to me. 3. Certain posts or videos get blown out of proportion or completely taken out of context even if it’s nothing negative. 4. People lie about the amount of friends they REALLY have. Who in the REAL world has 100s or 1000s of friends WHO?? 5. Communication is very one sided. The same person had to make the first move to start a conversation as the other person doesn’t make an effort themselves or just can’t be bothered. 6. People lie about their lives, they only show the positive side of theirs lives which doesn’t show the real truth about the person. You can’t tell and don’t see if someone is REALLY depressed, upset, isolated, lonely, feeling suicidal or what’s actually going on in their actual lives. Even if people post how they really feel, people don’t always care. 7. It makes people fake and insecure. It’s not just school kids or teenagers in college or university, but adults as well are being fake & insecure. 8. People compare themselves to others just to get more “likes” & comments. 9. Social media has increased loneliness, isolation. Anxiety and depression which can be severe. 10. Due to social media and the increase in technology, it’s causing destruction & destroying peoples lives in the sense of their is no sense of unity, community, love and nobody wants to help each other. If they see someone doing something constructive and productive and they’re doing well, people will laugh at them in an act of ignorance, and cannot wait for them to fall down. 11. Having a proper conversation or being real is considered not normal and people think it’s creepy. People don’t like having real conversations 12. It’s made people to be narcissists, self entitlement, ignorant, prejudice and bullies. 13. People can say things or make comments that are abusive, racist, sexist, ignorant, prejudice, misogynist, homophobia, xenophobia, discrimination openly online, rather than to your face. 14. I have seen Boys & Girls take provocative, selfies / pictures to get attention from so called friends / strangers, sometimes in a negative way, for example, woman having their chests hanging out, body image, men & women showing off muscles, six pack & more. 15. With social media & the young generation with regards to friendships, people feel that if they add someone as friend request and they accept it, they automatically think that’s “friends for life” people need to realise that’s not how friendship really works. I never had TikTok, Twitter or Instagram. Glad I didn’t sign up to any of them. Facebook was the only social media platform I had and it was recommended to me back when I was in my 20s. I only use RUclips as I can look at interesting things like cooking recipes and motivation videos and music videos of festivals & concerts and more fun stuff. I enjoy going out in nature, going for walks, bowling listening to music and learning new hobbies and watching movies. Since leaving it’s been the best decision of my life. I enjoy life more, I can now enjoy doing the things I do or want to try without being judged or told what to do without being made to feel guilty. I feel more happier and a massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I think if social media disappeared forever, I can guarantee people will spend REAL quality time with friends and family. People will know who their REAL friends are and that they will do things together and have a good time doing it. I also feel that people will have proper conversations and listen and engage.
Life without social media is just so fulfilling. I live every single second to the greatest, I revel in the splendor and vivid colors. Every breath of crisp autumn air is another wave of pleasure on this Earth. Each vibration and sound unique in its own right, every organism living in harmony around me. Food offers explosions of flavor and bright vivid sensation, the feeling of a cold shower or run to make me feel ALIVE. I can just sit and soak up the trees, sit down and listen to the birds chirp. the beauty of life is ephermeral, and fleeting. So stop this addiction and enjoy every single heartbeat, the next could always be the last.
What I noticed is how Snapchat, RUclips and even Amazon now has REELS. This is what I struggle with the most. The fact that RUclips put reels really screwed me up because now I just chase videos that are super short anything longer than a minute I just scroll even if I found it interesting. I related to everything you said, thank you.
someone said that sometimes social media addiction is not the main problem. for it was my way to cope with my depression. a distraction on my worst days. something to shut my thoughts because they are scary. so now when i'm trying to heal from my depression I need to quit doomscrolling as well because it kinda holding me back. so you should think why you became addicted to social media in the first place and try to fix this problem too.
People became addicted to social media in the first place, because of other people. People are quitting social media now, because of their own well being. Who is enjoying life? People without social media. Who is judging us without social media? The people with depression.
My English teacher challenged my class to go without our phone for a week. It’s day one, and it’s hard. Seeing everyone else on their phone makes it so hard to fight the urge. My friends are telling my I’m crazy for willingly doing this. I want to prove my discipline to myself and get my life back. I finished my paper in two and s half hours instead of a whole night getting distracted by my phone. I’m excited to see what I can do, I think I’m gonna take it longer than the week. I’m gonna build my relation with God.
@@sophie-ms4edIt went pretty well! I got so much school work and studying done. I tried new a new hobby, don’t think I will continue. I’m sick of the radio comercial and am very happy to return to Spotify. 😂 I would recommend, but it does feel disconnecting at times. People really don’t like to call you anymore. I feel better, and I feel pride in myself. This last three days I can spend more time without my phone and not feel 100% drawn to it, but a week isn’t going to create a bunch of change. I deleted social media about seven months ago now and switched to a flip phone instead of my iPhone soon after that. During this time, I’ve realized that I’m actually an extrovert who was just convinced I was an introvert because of my screen addiction. If you’re worried about being lonely, just realize that you’re now forcing your relationships to be more in-person, the way we were intended to interact with each other. I’m much less lonely now that I have people I see every day and actually talk to face-to-face. I was much more lonely when all my relationships were online. Maybe you’ll have less friends, but those friendships will feed your soul so much more.
I’m newly Christian and realized I spend more time on my phone then in gods words and with god. I’ve been trying to end my phone addiction and it always ends up not working. I took your advice, deleted everything except Instagram cause it’s all filled with bibles, so everytime I go on insta, I get reminded to read my Bible more. I also just put it in black and while and it’s truly helping. My phone is boring 😂 I hope this works out for me, thank you 🙏🏻 god bless you
Though I am a muslim girl ,but I also get distracted and scroll all day on phone and can not develop a consistent relation with God .. I try for 3 days and then go back to same routine of using phone all day .But today I promise to myself and will get focused on God and control my self ,wish u best of luck
You’re 100% correct that quitting social media isn’t the point - it’s taking back your own power. We all deserve so much better than hours a day spent staring at screens 🥰 ✨
Man I deleted all social media three years ago. I can’t even imagine going online to see what other fake people are doing lmao. Life is so much better going without it you become much more creative and open minded with everything you do. I’ve learned that boredom is actually pretty good for you.
I love that you’re spreading awareness about the negative effects of social media. I’m taking a detox now and I’m realizing how much clearer my mind is and focused I am in the moment. I’m actually able to sit in my thoughts and improving my real life rather than just distracting myself by a fake platform.
i feel like more young people need to talk about this because i just get so bored when a 50 year old starts yapping about how social media is bad. im seriously gonna try this stuff out now that i can feel connected and relate to someone in my generation. thank you
I had deleted social media for about 6 months and it was the greatest time of my life, but since I’ve been back I’ve been feeling like shit so I’m going to start again!
I did the same thing! I quit for 6 months- started reading again, working out, eating better, etc. I redownloaded everything “just to check my notifications” and got sucked back in all over again 😞 social media addiction is real
Same here except quit for 3 months this past summer, I felt at my best for as long as I can remember, and since getting back on it I just feel terrible. I decided to get off again yesterday, and dont plan on returning any time soon.
I like how his video differs from almost all the other ones I’ve watched; it’s simplistic in a good way (without crazy edits), helps focus more, straightforward and in-depth. You can tell he took the time to really look into it and it’s well-organized. Also tests your patience by being a 20-minute video, it’s not that it’s too long, in fact it’s a good length considering how serious you want to be about it, but for phone addicts that’s their first step I guess 😂
At the start I was thinking I’m okay I don’t need to do these tips, then watching myself struggle to finish the video made me realise that I need to practice the detox 😭
I realised I also had the tendency to binge eat when I wouldn’t use my phone while studying because that was my alternative to getting instant gratification. So weird how we work
@@india9028 i have not actually. i haven’t been intentional with stopping it which may not be great but i do think it’s okay to do so, just make sure what you’re eating isn’t unhealthy if eaten in excess. (e.g. grapes are a good snack)
I deleted tiktok and I’ve missed not having it. I spent too much time there seeing useless things not using my brain. Since I deleted it I started studying more, reading more, watching more interesting informative youtube videos, actually using my brain.
This is a thing everyone needs to do, don’t get off social media and use it for attention, no one will care rather you have it or not🤙🏼 just delete it without announcing it to the world

Yo man, I've been following your content and let me just say, I'm with you. I've been on this detox for 3+ years and I'm 18. I've started with deleting Tik Tok first, then Snap, then eventually Instagram. It was hard keeping up with people after high school, but I understood how imperative it was to fix my brain and reset to get my mind right for my future. Doing this for all these years led me to have time to explore a more creative side of myself, similar to making video essays similar to what you make! Thank you for pushing this agenda forward bro, God bless man!
@@zay6499 Of course!! It takes a while though, I'd say. You definitely need to persevere at the start because you will find yourself with "too much" time and nothing to do, I'd recommend that you go work out or meditate when u find yourself looking for tiktok on your phone. I'd recommend reading as well if you don't already, I was never a big reader until I got off social media last year. If u enjoy fantasy, "The Name of the Wind" is a banger book to start off with.
I discontinued social media use when I was around 18 years old. I am now 20, and I've redownloaded only Instagram back to my phone within the past couple of months! To this day I genuinely believe that, that large break from social media was completely necessary, and the foundation of my self-concept; growing up in this generation, social media use was quite literally wired into the networks that exist in our brain and definitely neglected so so so much development and figuring out of the self. I totally agree with everything you're saying and I'm glad you are spreading the message. Jaron Lanier is one of my absolute FAVORITE teachers on the topic. I now study neuroscience and psychology in college because I fell in love with the brain, and it's addictive neural pathways to many things, including social media :)
I’m 31. Got my first phone (a flip phone) in Jr. High. Society talks about “kids and their phones” a lot. But what I’ve seen is grandparents, parents, and kids in the same family (*cough, cough* mine) having an addiction to phones/social media. All that to say… good for you, dude. Because quitting the addiction is HARD and sharing how to quit (before we have another generation of parents and grandparents addicted to devices) can only benefit us.
You have no clue how much this helped me, I’ve been lately feeling as if I were in a never ending cycle of social media addiction, and it had affected many areas of my life especially school and suddenly this video showed up and I was really needing it. I’m currently struggling with anxiety, stress and panic attacks for a month now. I can’t do anything right now and I feel so lost. Before my first panic attack I was working and studying. I was busy 24/7 processing social media while sleeping, then wake up go to school, work after and having a lot going on in my private life as well. For the last 5 months I feel so stuck in life. I know I’m addicted to my phone, but this video is such an eye opener. I’m literally waisting my time and my potential by being on my phone. Social media destroys your brain fr. I did start praying so that’s a good thing and I’m so grateful I found something that calmed me down. I want to feel happy and healthy again so I’m starting today. Thank you so much!!

I haven't finished watching yet, but you talked about how quitting forever isn't the answer and I love that you said that, because it's what my therapist has also told me. When I deleted all my social media apps, at first it worked well, but at some point I started logging into my accounts on my laptop. And I'd do this every time I'd start over with the detox. I felt like an alcoholic that doesn't drink, but ends up eating a whole bunch of liquor filled chocolates.
I love this! I went 5 months without social media and was the happiest I’ve ever been. Been wanting to get back to that but struggling. I love these extra steps Ive never thought about!
For those that have tried deleting social media and always found themselves caving in and downloading again i recommend transitioning out of the apps instead from no phone in the morning, to no phone on the toilet then no phone before completing a task (cleaning/cooking) to most importantly no phone 30mins before bed, then 1 hour then 2 and ideally at some point it wint matter anymore Small moments = no phone, longer moments ect = different fillers (hobbies/chores/education,.. ect..)
It’s good to see that so many of us relate with the whole social media being addictive thing. The problem is that I need to be there for business, so I’m trying to figure out a strategy.
I've been doing detox and using less social media for so many years now (I have a dumbphone that really helped putting me on the right track), and while I love your video and I agree with most of it, I also want to say this: It's alright not to be productive. A lot of video and detoxes nowadays are focused and won't stop repeating about "be more productive", "learning more", "doing more". And while I used to agree with this narrative and I began my detox that way, I also fell into a pit of "self-productiveness" that I think is so telling of the neoliberalism nowadays, the fact that we are our own products and we can do better and better. This gets extremely tiring after a while, and I was burntout for a long time even with the detox. So I learnt that: Social media detox is overall good because social media helped my anxiety, but I get anxious when I'm in a always-productive-mode too. Folks: it's okay to disconnect and do nothing. Or do what makes you happy: watching a stupid film, reading a stupid book, going for a walk, going for beers. It'ss alright. You don't need to detox just to be a more productive human. To be productive, we need to detox from productivism too.
adding onto this: being productive looks like so many things to so many different people, sometimes if you're simply not feeling well the best you can do is make yourself a meal and make your bed. just wanted to add on that you don't have to deepclean your entire house and get and get *everything* done in one day to be productive :)
im an artist in my senior year of high school, and i find that i have both a beneficial and toxic relationship with tiktok, mainly with the way there is always so much art that i'm looking at. i find tiktok is good for inspiration, but on the other hand, i compare myself way too much, and i scroll and scroll and scroll. i spend too much time focusing on improvement instead of just enjoying the creative process. i only found your videos today, but they're already encouraging me to think about how i can begin to pull away from this relationship. if i want to truly advance my career in art, then i need to prioritize myself and focus on the moment. thank you so much, and i'll do my best to keep up with your videos from here on out!
I started attempting this detachment from my screens several months ago and have run into a lot of challenges. Some things that have helped is to keep a journal. Every time I feel like I really want to turn on my screens I write in my journal first instead and try to pinpoint what I’m wanting to get out of it and thinking about if there is another way to meet that need. I have discovered that a big reason it was hard for me was because I was afraid of doing nothing. I felt like I had to do something else instead, so if I was tired and everything else sounded like work, I didn’t know what to do with myself. Since then I’ve embraced just pacing around the house and staring out windows sometimes. I realized my brain actually needed that space at times.
Dude is 19 years old? I read that from your channel’s bio and was astounded to know your age. While you do look like you’re in your early 20s, how you present yourself is mature. You also seem like you are wise beyond your years. Great taste in podcasts as well since I love Andrew Hiberman’s podcasts too so I’m glad that you are spreading his name. Keep up the awesome work.
This video has really solid advice! Thank you for making it. I have quit certain social media platforms in the past, but this has pushed me to fully detox!
I’m 15 years old just found this video I watched it all and subscribed and I love this idea I tried this in the past but I only did it with tik tok cause that’s my worst impulse and the app gives me anxiety and worsens my mood I will be following these steps and taking control over my life I’ll update everyone in the comments❤❤
I'm 16 and so done with this social media thing!! its super draining, I end up procrastinating like 85% of the time, shorter attention span....I've tried doing it but slipped a couple of times and now I'm back to square one, thank you for the tips, ill try be more intentional this time :)
This is so encouraging coming from a young man! You have inspired me and I’ve deleted all my social apps. I’m going thru a rough patch and this video is exactly what I needed this week and I wasn’t even searching for it. I pray you continue your success 💚
I’ve had my phone in grayscale for months and it made me so happy when you said put your phones in black and white! It definitely helps and I feel seen because people are always asking about why my phone has no color :)
Started my detox two days ago, thank you for making this video you’ve really impacted my life with this. Hope you and everyone in this comment section is doing well:)
I LOVE this video - perfect for executing some of my New Year’s resolutions 🙌🏼 It’s refreshing to see someone talk about this for what it actually is - a hard commitment that will take time!! Thanks for these ideas - hope anyone reading this has a nice day/ night :)
18:12 , when you started talking sbout the beauty of life, i reslly resonated with that. But with my current phone addiction. It reslly speaks on how cocerningly addicted I am to my phone for my mind to overlap that appreciation of beauty with such a childish act that has extended all the way to my teenhood. Whenever I go outside, I have admried the look of life the same since I was a little kid. How people look, the colors, the shadows and light, the items we humans have created. I have so dearly admired it, sometimes my brain can’t even comprehend it and end up staring in awe and thought of it. This admiration were one of the reasons why I started art. Oh my lord the drawings people can create to depict that, judt gives my brain a unique pleasure. But now I’m using my phone to hide from life, forgrtting the beauties, forgetting so much stuff that have shouldve bee immovable from my mind because of the value it gives to me for my development.
i’ve not had social media on my phone for a few months now, and i just saw this video. i knew i was slipping back into an overconsumption, but with tv, video games, etc. i’ve struggled with addiction in the past, and i full heartedly agree that easy, wasteful dopamine release is addictive. seeing your video felt like a sign to push myself into more of an extreme, to be the person i’ve been trying to. thank you ♥️
For the past few months, ive realized that especially short form content like ig reels and tiktok have been wasting my time and I dont even remember what I am watching. I have been so behind in my school and I keep thinking my phone is not the problem but I end up with 10 hours of screen time a day. Im going to go on a full detox, in quitting porn, indulging in excess food, and senseless short form content. Hopefully it goes well, thanks for the motivation.
it literally feels like what I imagine addiction withdrawal feels like. I am itchy and can't think about anything else but I had the best day I've ever had with my boyfriend (4 1/2 years!) because I didn't have subconscious things from tiktok in my head and I was fully present
This randomly popped up in my recommendations and I honestly felt the universe sent it to me just because I honestly need to get on this. Followed all your tips, starting this detox very soon!
im watching this video at 1:30am because ive been scrolling all night. i really felt like i had no life because i STILL got bored even with social media, its really depressing that so many people in this generation waste so much time of their lives on social media, not all of it is bad of course, but most of it is useless information that you will forget. ive done detoxes before and kept them for long periods of time but as i got older i downloaded the apps again (tiktok, discord, etc) and my well being has gotten progressively worse since, ive had no motivation to do anything other than scroll all day, ive become less productive, ive spent less time with family and friends, it distracts me from school work, and i end up getting nothing done and i feel so awful at the end of the day knowing that thats another day wasted on my phone. And im realising that i was happier in the past because i didnt have social media and thats the root of the problem.
hey Abraham, my name is Abraham too, im 16 and ive been thinking of getting my life together after seeing what other people my age are doing. Most topics you've covered are things ive struggled with and still do. i just want to thank you for making this channel and sharing your experience. i hope to see more in the future.

My biggest piece of advice is to start reading. Just start with ten pages a day and see where it will take you.
good advice
@@lina-pg8dc Right. I"ve done the same thing. Good for you! It's a great feeling, isn't it! You slowly start to get your life back :)
thing is, i read a LOT. but it‘s all fanfiction. on my phone. it‘s probably better than just scrolling on tiktok for hours, but i‘m still just on my phone for ages and new books can‘t hold my attention long enough for me to finish them while i‘m still hyperfixating on a specific piece of media
Real.
You’re not! Just switch away from it and I know you got this.
I’m a christian, so I’d like to share a verse in the bible that has helped me remember that many have gone through what you and I have experienced:
Elijah was afraid and ran for his life.
All at once an angel touched him and said, "Get up and eat."
He looked around, and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.
The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you."
So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.
(1 Kings 19, 3-8)
This story has helped me because it shows that even 2.000+ years ago, people felt the way you and I have, and even asked God to let them go. But even then, they were able to recover and reach their destination. They had to walk and rest, so it took days to get there; slowly but steadily they arrived.
I wish for you the same, get well soon and have a wonderful life 🙌🏻
i also struggle from severe depression. never forget: IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. i don't have any great advice, but any step forward is progress. every single step of the day is progress toward feeling better. try not to beat yourself up too much ❤️
you're not disgusting! you can get better, we are in this together
I like RUclips because I actually like watching videos about health and fasting but I deleted all my other social media apps and it’s helped me drastically
Sad we have to literally learn to be humans again
Wow this is deep 😢
When I came to this country that’s exactly what I said. That was 15 years ago. As I got older, I told myself at 20 years old, 2020 and seeing all these courses. I’m like “we are learning how to be human. that’s crazy.” the thing is that’s our normality you know. Now there are communication courses because people have fear of speaking meanwhile it’s a natural habit we do. It’s just society has suppress us into “uncomfortable.”
Yes.
But it's really not our fault. Unchecked capitalism is what got us here and is (trying to) keep us here.

I'm 20 and I've been doing this detox for the past 2 years It's nice to see that there are other people who are interested in this as well.
you’re not alone brotha
I really think this video was very helpful and it’s comforting to see ppl around my age trying it too
It feels weird asf being 20
I literally deleted social media and started cleaning out my closet and now doing things I have just been holding off. Getting in Gods word & Hoping to go 6+ months more with it
amen hallelujah!
Proud of you 👏🏿🌺

“I don’t think you should quit social media at all” “ we’re trying to take control back our life” got me interested, I loved this perception- a more practical approach
its the same with eating healthy, you dont wanna stop eating (as most people do for weight loss) but rather find the best way for you to use it to your advantage instead. simply quitting an addiction never works either, thats why its an addiction :D
I actually dream of a world where no one's on their phone in a social setting. Imagine how many amazing people we'd meet and convos we'd have

@@WouiskeyTv You're very welcome, though I never have taken mine to the bathroom with me or taken it to look at while in bed. I just made another comment on here where I said I don't even get the internet on my phone and I"m fine with that.
Exactly, thank you for your help
Good ideas! Honestly, I think people who talk on their phone while using the toilet have no class!
You can do it!!
I'm in the same situation except that I just turned 18. I really need some help hahah I don't know who to ask.
Are you me?😭

Good for you, OneSmalljellyfish! You have no idea how many people in my area have this serious addiction problem, too. I wish they would do what you are doing.
0:01 that sound created a pit in my stomach.
Yeah I feel it too😂😂
"we're all addicted to our phones" that rlly hit me since the moment i heard that, i looked around the room and saw my family just consuming the internet and their phones. this scares me
I realized I spent less time on my phone than my parents most of the time.

Good luck love! You've got this
Good luck! We're in this together ❣
Good luck 🫶🏻
Just deleted instagram off my phone. The bible says that when you’re right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. This was much needed
Lmao the same Bible that justifies touching kids? Alright.....
I used to argue that I need IG and crackbook because I can get information and catch up with my friends. Get rid of your watch history, and then turn the history off. It will automatically get rid of your shorts feed.
@@TheLittleAwkwardArtist thanks for that tip. Was contemplating deleting RUclips cause of these shorts
You actualy can disable shorts. You just need to go to the history tab and pause + erase your history.

Good to see an educated young black man representing the community.
my uncle has never had social media. my mom used to always say it was weird and I genuinely believed her. now that I'm older and chronically online, I admire the fact that he doesn't care what people think and does what's best for him.
Good luck on your journey.
It’s been 22 months since I left social media. I have no regrets at all.
I got sick of people gossiping, drama, negativity & people faking their lives & friendships and sharing everything that should be private or craving attention with provocative pictures & selfies.
A number of things I realised:
1. People who added me as “Friends” didn’t really care about me. They were “So called Friends”
People don’t like having real conversations
OMG, You have no idea how much I appreciated your arguments here. You just nailed it. Thanks a bunch for such well-articulated arguments.

Hi, you can use stayfree an app that helps you to block shorts in your youtube
Even Spotify has them now!
Omg reels pandemic. But Amazon reels?? What do they even show on those??
someone said that sometimes social media addiction is not the main problem. for it was my way to cope with my depression. a distraction on my worst days. something to shut my thoughts because they are scary. so now when i'm trying to heal from my depression I need to quit doomscrolling as well because it kinda holding me back. so you should think why you became addicted to social media in the first place and try to fix this problem too.
this right here.
People became addicted to social media in the first place, because of other people. People are quitting social media now, because of their own well being. Who is enjoying life? People without social media. Who is judging us without social media? The people with depression.
i rearranged my room while listening to this after procrastinating that for YEARS. i think this is the beginning of my detox. thank you!!!
Hope it’s going well for you ❤️

My English teacher challenged my class to go without our phone for a week. It’s day one, and it’s hard. Seeing everyone else on their phone makes it so hard to fight the urge. My friends are telling my I’m crazy for willingly doing this. I want to prove my discipline to myself and get my life back. I finished my paper in two and s half hours instead of a whole night getting distracted by my phone. I’m excited to see what I can do, I think I’m gonna take it longer than the week. I’m gonna build my relation with God.
update? i'm really interested in this as i have important tests next year and tiktok is ruining my life

I’m sick of the radio comercial and am very happy to return to Spotify. 😂 I would recommend, but it does feel disconnecting at times. People really don’t like to call you anymore. I feel better, and I feel pride in myself. This last three days I can spend more time without my phone and not feel 100% drawn to it, but a week isn’t going to create a bunch of change. i guess i'm not the only one going trough this anti social media fever. I'm 17 and not many people my age recognise this problem, and even those who do, dont try to fix it. I hope many people wake up after watching this. Thank you for making videos about this huge problem,
I deleted social media about seven months ago now and switched to a flip phone instead of my iPhone soon after that.
My phone is boring 😂 I hope this works out for me, thank you 🙏🏻 god bless you
Literally why I clicked on this video I need to be locked in with the Lord!!
Though I am a muslim girl ,but I also get distracted and scroll all day on phone and can not develop a consistent relation with God .. I try for 3 days and then go back to same routine of using phone all day .But today I promise to myself and will get focused on God and control my self ,wish u best of luck
same here. wish u the best on ur journey. may God bless you :)

You’re 100% correct that quitting social media isn’t the point - it’s taking back your own power.
We all deserve so much better than hours a day spent staring at screens 🥰
✨
Man I deleted all social media three years ago. I can’t even imagine going online to see what other fake people are doing lmao. Life is so much better going without it you become much more creative and open minded with everything you do. I’ve learned that boredom is actually pretty good for you.
my screentime averages 10hrs a day i’m so addicted to tiktok how do i stop
@@user-hs3le3uu4d seriously man delete the app and never download it again, and write a story outside
I felt the same. I deleted my socials for a month went back and felt drained. Deleted again and never went back !
Same here except quit for 3 months this past summer, I felt at my best for as long as I can remember, and since getting back on it I just feel terrible. I decided to get off again yesterday, and dont plan on returning any time soon.
Me too but we can start again right?
So weird how we work
Did you find a way to fix this habit?
@@india9028 i have not actually. i haven’t been intentional with stopping it which may not be great but i do think it’s okay to do so, just make sure what you’re eating isn’t unhealthy if eaten in excess. (e.g. grapes are a good snack)
Yes, the coping is so hard.
I deleted tiktok and I’ve missed not having it. I spent too much time there seeing useless things not using my brain. Since I deleted it I started studying more, reading more, watching more interesting informative youtube videos, actually using my brain.
this is a sign because 15 minutes of watching this felt like 45 minutes
Journaling is also a good way to sort out the lingering void. Answer therapeutic questions about your childhood etc
This is a thing everyone needs to do, don’t get off social media and use it for attention, no one will care rather you have it or not🤙🏼 just delete it without announcing it to the world
👊🏾
That's not the problem i can delete etuff i just don't know what to do if im not scrolling. i just feel like this isn't for me.
Thank goodness you brought this up! Very smart young man. I shared this with my 14yr. old son!
Does it actually work, like can you think more clearly as well more productive an how do you keep up with things
Yess even just taking out reels/tik toks works
You really go above and beyond with the value in these videos bro, I 100% agree with everything you said.
appreciate you bro
I discontinued social media use when I was around 18 years old. I am now 20, and I've redownloaded only Instagram back to my phone within the past couple of months! To this day I genuinely believe that, that large break from social media was completely necessary, and the foundation of my self-concept; growing up in this generation, social media use was quite literally wired into the networks that exist in our brain and definitely neglected so so so much development and figuring out of the self. I totally agree with everything you're saying and I'm glad you are spreading the message. Jaron Lanier is one of my absolute FAVORITE teachers on the topic. I now study neuroscience and psychology in college because I fell in love with the brain, and it's addictive neural pathways to many things, including social media :)
this is my sign and i am starting today wish me luck bro's
I’m 31. Got my first phone (a flip phone) in Jr. High. Society talks about “kids and their phones” a lot. But what I’ve seen is grandparents, parents, and kids in the same family (*cough, cough* mine) having an addiction to phones/social media. All that to say… good for you, dude. Because quitting the addiction is HARD and sharing how to quit (before we have another generation of parents and grandparents addicted to devices) can only benefit us.
im 15 and super addicted to my phone and its keeping me from getting a job and doing anything honestly. thank you for this video it really helps
deleted all my socials a few days ago and your channel has really helped me understand and come to terms that it's okay to live social media free.

You have no clue how much this helped me, I’ve been lately feeling as if I were in a never ending cycle of social media addiction, and it had affected many areas of my life especially school and suddenly this video showed up and I was really needing it. Thanks for the tips I’m pretty much sure that they will help me :)
Are you improving in school now?
@@MikeTownley-z6v overall and slowly yes, I’m trying to spend some time away of my phone, is hard sometimes but yea, too much screen time damages my focus
Same, but at the same timei have to keep in control my self destroing thoughts that tell me i will never be able to get back on track with school, tho i don't have any bad grades until now. For this reason i wanna quit short-time entertaining, or even any entertaining that makes me escape from reality. When you start escaping reality it's a never ending cycle, i hope the cause is my social media so i can fix it.
Ironically, the only thing I can keep up with is english since 90% of content i see and listen is in english.
I've been doing this for about 3 years! One of my goals was to read more instead, and now I've been reading 3-4 books every month! Very very gratifying, specially because I used to think I just had no time for it (I did. I was just using it in things I didn't really care about)
My boyfriend had put to my attention that i spend too much time caring about social media instead of what’s in front of me and i’m glad he told me. I finally deleted tik tok, i’m only keeping youtube and snapchat (for my friends & bf). I want to get back to what i love and that is sewing and painting. Being away from phone will give me the time and energy to do what i love and hang out with my family. Thank you for posting and sharing with us ur experience!!
That great that you heard him out and decided to change. Good on you. I’m glad you liked the video and good luck with your paintings!
ive been taking a break from social media for a while now, i only have pinterest on my phone since im longing to become an artist and need a source of inspiration. at school al ot of people ask me if my phone is broken or if my battery is dead.. since im always reading a book, crocheting or conversing with people. getting off of social media let me gain control of my life and i highly reccomend it.
Watching this in grayscale now, this is such an empowering video. Taking my own version of this detox-a few months in finding this vid is awesome. Glad to know I'm not alone and hopefully this reaches many more people. Taking power over our vices is key
Thank you so much!!
social media , corn isnt your addiction giving in is your addiction. don't blame anything but yourself hold your self accountable. i gave u the most gems take it and run with it.
This helped me see how many things in my life really create short dopamine. A good way to treat apps is you need to set an intention before you go on them or you shouldn’t be on them
i deleted my instagram, removed most notifications and turned my phone to greyscale right as i watched this video. i just felt so motivated and i already feel better!! ill definetly watch your other videos as well, thank you so much for this extra push to focus on my "irl" life

@@laylasummerrosebro asked 1 day after
How is it going?
i've been fighting some pretty bad anxiety/depression recently, everythings been scaring me n its been fuckin up my mental, and a LOT of that could be attributed to all my social media. watching this all the way through made me delete everything except my discord and youtube, gonna try n start taking my channel a lot more seriously n get to where i really wanna be in life. love your content tons man. < 3
how’s it going so far?
@laylasummerrose I have been slowly easing my way back into using stuff like Twitter, but I won't lie, I've been feeling great. That small amount of time away genuinely gave me the boost I needed for a while. Been really focusing on getting my weight down and I'm even starting work soon! :))
@@tetsusylon that’s great to hear!! keep it up! deleted my socials yesterday and plan to stay off them for a long time if not forever because they also mess up my mental health/depression and this gives me good inspiration so thank you. also good luck with starting work, hope all goes well.
There’s a weight lifted off my chest hearing this. I really want this. To be free from this phone addiction. And get back into the world doing things I love doing
4 years strong 💪🏼, don't plan on getting back anytime soon. Great video and explanations!!
What apps you only use?
I love this! I went 5 months without social media and was the happiest I’ve ever been. Been wanting to get back to that but struggling. I love these extra steps Ive never thought about!
For those that have tried deleting social media and always found themselves caving in and downloading again i recommend transitioning out of the apps instead from no phone in the morning, to no phone on the toilet then no phone before completing a task (cleaning/cooking) to most importantly no phone 30mins before bed, then 1 hour then 2 and ideally at some point it wint matter anymore
Small moments = no phone, longer moments ect = different fillers (hobbies/chores/education,.. ect..)
I'm starting detoxing now March 21, 2024 I'll comeback here after a month to update you guys.
It's help u to recover form addiction
To be productive, we need to detox from productivism too.
adding onto this: being productive looks like so many things to so many different people, sometimes if you're simply not feeling well the best you can do is make yourself a meal and make your bed. just wanted to add on that you don't have to deepclean your entire house and get and get *everything* done in one day to be productive :)
im an artist in my senior year of high school, and i find that i have both a beneficial and toxic relationship with tiktok, mainly with the way there is always so much art that i'm looking at. i find tiktok is good for inspiration, but on the other hand, i compare myself way too much, and i scroll and scroll and scroll. i spend too much time focusing on improvement instead of just enjoying the creative process. i only found your videos today, but they're already encouraging me to think about how i can begin to pull away from this relationship. if i want to truly advance my career in art, then i need to prioritize myself and focus on the moment. thank you so much, and i'll do my best to keep up with your videos from here on out!
instead of using social media for inspiration you could acc go out of your way and look at art exhibitions, events or galleries
I’m a big fan of Pinterest for my art! It’s harder to doom scroll because the algorithm is less addictive than tiktok
I JUST set my phone to black and white as I was listening to this and holy moly it makes a difference in breaking shadow patterns right off the bat!
I do similar videos 🫡

But now I’m using my phone to hide from life, forgrtting the beauties, forgetting so much stuff that have shouldve bee immovable from my mind because of the value it gives to me for my development.
i’ve not had social media on my phone for a few months now, and i just saw this video. i knew i was slipping back into an overconsumption, but with tv, video games, etc. i’ve struggled with addiction in the past, and i full heartedly agree that easy, wasteful dopamine release is addictive. seeing your video felt like a sign to push myself into more of an extreme, to be the person i’ve been trying to. thank you ♥️
It’s been 2-3 weeks for meeee🥰 I been more focused on what I wanna do with my career

im watching this video at 1:30am because ive been scrolling all night. i really felt like i had no life because i STILL got bored even with social media, its really depressing that so many people in this generation waste so much time of their lives on social media, not all of it is bad of course, but most of it is useless information that you will forget. ive done detoxes before and kept them for long periods of time but as i got older i downloaded the apps again (tiktok, discord, etc) and my well being has gotten progressively worse since, ive had no motivation to do anything other than scroll all day, ive become less productive, ive spent less time with family and friends, it distracts me from school work, and i end up getting nothing done and i feel so awful at the end of the day knowing that thats another day wasted on my phone. And im realising that i was happier in the past because i didnt have social media and thats the root of the problem.
I find it so fascinating how similar of a journey so many of us have been going through. Thank you for this video ❤️
