      @The_Triangulator Год назад +1

      I’m an avid VR gamer and early adopter with many HMDs and my PSVR 2 is my go to ATM…absolutely loving it. I even have a room setup with lighthouse trackers a 4090 machine for my Index and Vive Pro 2 with Wi-Fi 6 for my quest 2 airlink. PSVR2’s setup and no need for settings tweaking to run smooth plus Sony licensing power for the future makes it just so easy (and that OLED display 😍)…oh yeah and trophies plus my PSN network friends!! Absolutely loving GT7 as a typically non sim racing gamer, and with a Logitech G923 wheel is sublime. The surprise game that I am hooked on currently after passing on it from video previews initially is Zombieland VR Headshot Fever. Really addictive combo mechanics. Gives you that “just one more” feeling after even playing hours. Cheers!

      @@The_Triangulator how does the psvr2 screen stack up to the index? That is the only one I haven’t used.

    • @The_Triangulator
      @The_Triangulator Год назад +1

      @@NigelWorkman The Index display has some minor benefits over the PSVR 2, like a tiny bit more horizontal FOV (negligible) and capability for 144 hz, but does suffer from fresnel lens god rays worse that psvr 2, lower resolution, some light leak and doesn’t have nearly the colors and contrast of the PSVR 2 OLED. To be honest the colors and brightness of the PSVR 2 is something I haven’t yet experienced on this level (plus eye tracking and foveated rendering 🤯). Yes still some screen door and some folks claiming mura (current VR buzzword). Not to be confused with Moire. I think this is just a pixel density/arrangement issue with some OLED panels in this price range. There is always a trade off but as a package and for the money and community the PSVR 2 just makes more sense for me right now for easy day to day gaming…in and out. Also binocular overlap and immersion with psvr 2 is so good. Not comparing tracking in this convo as lighthouse tracking is far superior but at a cost, space considerations, lack of portability and a beefy PC investment and upkeep. Loving that all the new VR options spark competition which is great for innovation and the future of immersive gaming is bright!

      @@The_Triangulator Hey, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Index display versus the PSVR 2! It's awesome to see that you've had a positive experience with the PSVR 2, especially when it comes to the colors and immersion factor. I totally agree that it's great to have healthy competition in the VR market because it can only lead to more innovation and exciting advancements in immersive gaming. Let's hope we continue to see even more amazing VR options in the future!

    Thanks m8. I’m a VR sim racer myself. Drove 1000 of hours in VR mostly in Project cars 2 and AMS2. It is really awesome. My Rift CV1 is EOL and I don’t want to spend thousands of euros to upgrade my PC and A new VR set. So I wanna buy A PS5 and a PSVR 2. The only thing that kept me from buying is the fear of less performance and screendoor effect. After your short thoughts and experience, I decided Togo for it. I have a fanatec DD setup which is also compatible with the PS5. You’ve made my day. Drink a beer on my account. Bottoms up.

      Awesome feedback, Bull Shark! I really hope it lives up to the expectations I set. I’d like to give you some more specifics on what my former setup was, just so you have a better idea of what I was comparing it to. PC was an intel i7 paired with a gtx 1080ti with a original Vive headset. That was able to run project cars 2 at pretty high settings, but not maxed out. If you were using a CV1 then you are probably used to roughly the same quality as me. With that being said- if your experience is in fact similar to mine, you are going to be SUPER HAPPY with the upgrade. Only unknown will be- how much will you enjoy GT7 before some other racers have PSVR2 support. Let me know how it all turns out!!

      So I’m extra happy to read your reply. GT7 is a bit of a getting used to I guess but that will be no problem. I’m a hard core simracer but I also can enjoy more arcade racers. And I love other VR games as well. Had an awesome time with Elite Dangerous in VR and just horror games are great as well. So My guess is that I will love the psVR2. I had the PSVR 1 as well, on my PS4 pro but sold it and bought my PC setup. Again thanks and I will report back. Won’t be in a few days because I first buy the PS5 and then save some money for the VR set.. 😁🤜👍

      @@NigelWorkman just another question regarding GT7. I read a lot of complaints about the bad non VR GFX on GT7 in common. Is this your experience as well? Certainly no next gen GFX. Is some cases even worse than on a ps4. I bought GT7 in advance. It is on sale atm. The waiting is on the arrival of the PS5. So I was wondering if the game does look a bit mwhaa in pancake mode. 😁

      @NigelWorkman  Год назад +1

      @@bullshark1152 I think the car models look really great! I think where the problem with gt7 (for some people) is, there is no sort of flashy looking color palate. And I don’t mean overly cartoony or bright-I just mean, more exciting to look at them what is outside my Windows. Everything is just really dull in a way and it makes every race feel like….idk, gloomy and blah?? I mean, even if you pick to play in pure sunshine, it just sort of feels “meh” in a way. Not sure why that is….maybe I’ve just gotten so used to playing horizon 5 that it is influencing the way I see sim racers now. Idk bro….you’ll have to let me know what you think after you get it going.

    Hi
    That was a very good review thanks . You could of mentioned a few of the issues people were having eg mura , reprojection issues , the poor earphones that come with it , the fact it’s wired and how this affects the room scale experience and the haptics in the headset itself .
    I own a htc vive and was thinking of upgrading to this thing or the valve index or pimax 5k plus so how would you compare the field of view of this headset to those ? I know on paper it’s only 10 degrees more than the first psvr1 which I found the small fov to be very distracting . I know there is the pimax but it needs a powerful pc and gpu and there is too much teaking and messing about to get it running ?
    Cheers
    Paul

    • @NigelWorkman
      @NigelWorkman  Год назад

      Hey Paul, I made this review several months ago, so a lot of these issues (aside from the fact that it’s wired) weren’t really being talked about, and weren’t something that I experienced personally. As far as the rest of your thoughts- If you have the budget to put it all together, PCVR will always be a step ahead as far as content is concerned, but it is pretty crazy how great of an experience you can get from a 550 dollar PSVR. I haven’t personally used any of those extreme high-end headsets like the index or pimax, so I can’t really comment on that although I can imagine that it’s a great experience. At the end of the day, as with most people that I speak to on here, budget is always a huge part of the decision making and when you’re faced with the potential cost of building a good, PCVR set up versus the cost of a PS five with a PS VR. It’s kind of a no-brainer for some.

    Great review Nigel. Question - I am blind in my right eye. Is each eye a left side / right side view, or do both eye display display the same thing?

    • @NigelWorkman
      @NigelWorkman  Год назад +1

      Each eye has its own panel, Pat. As for your other question, it’s hard to tell if I’m being honest. Reason for that is, it’s incredibly difficult to stay still enough to tell if the image on either side matches identical, or if they are ever so slightly different. If there was a way to capture a screen shot for each eye of a given frame we could tell pretty easily, but I don’t have/know of a way to do that. Sorry Man, wish I could have been able to answer that for ya

    There are alternatives to solve the issues with glasses. There are a variety of different lens makers that make custom lenses designed for VR headsets depending on your preferences and necessities. From anti-glare to blue light filtering to prescription lenses they aren't hard to find. Depending on how bad your eyesight is though will increase or reduce the cost. If your eyesight isn't too bad they normally run around $130 but if your eyesight is quite rough then they can get up to around $200.
    My suggestion would be to grab a magnetic set so that you can easily remove them in case you either need to clean them or someone else wants to try your headset. Personally, I use VR Wave but, again, there are plenty of different options out there.

      Yeah, that's right. I own two pairs. Normal, and magnetic. Normal ones are great. Magnetics can be annoying. But convenient when you need to just lop them off for someone else to use. Very sensitive though. VERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Normal ones are very solid and awesome. Also, watch which company you order them through. Many use the cheapest lenses at a premium cost. You're better off buying one pair just for the frames, and then in future getting them updated yourself at your local lenses shop that do your actual glasses. Alternatively, you can skip the whole buy one pair from these people online by just getting lense protectors at 1/4th of the cost and then just going yourself and getting them done. Whatever you prefer. But yeah, both pairs I got aren't great, but they are OK. I won't be getting more through online people that do prescription lenses.

The only game that has a ton of replayability is Gran Turismo seven, which of course is not going to be something that works for everybody. What’s even more sad is that this is what I expect from new hardware releases, so I tend to not even mention that anymore. That being said, overall, I am happy with it because I went into it having those expectations ahead of time and knowing that the bulk of the hours I will put into it, wouldn’t happen until years into ownership.
