I love these RSKs, and for some reason, I really like the orange. I would love to have an orange/black combo. Odds are good your's is 60+, but it's still a great knife at 59+! I was never all that in to traditionals, but this past year, I have really gotten into them. I've probably picked up 30 or 40 of them this year. Had you told me a year ago that I'd be buying more traditionals than modern folders and fixed blades combined, I would have told you to go check into a rehab cuz yer habit is out of controll. Then again..I bought 30 or 40 traditionals, PLUS a bunch of regular knives, so maybe it's ME that has an out of control habit, lmao. Haven’t touched it to a stone. I have been very pleased. I just got into traditional knives about a month ago and have 7 of them now. Love them!

I have a legit Immortal, and grabbed a "tribute"/clone because I too revel in the ridiculous, and wanted one in black. I forget what the steel composition was, but even if it'smmm
The steel is n690 on that friction folder. Not too many of those on the market and I really like that one. The immortal was listed as xhp but I got s35vn when I bought it. I knew something was up when I tried to put an edge on it. This was like 7 months ago so I was more optimistic of cold steels heat treat than I am now. The buck vantage was offered in s30v for a real good price for budget minded folks. I chose the wood scaled 420hc cuz that's what they know. I can't recommend it given the surplus of the great options available to us in 2019 vs 2014. I enjoy the simpleness just as much as the steel itself on that guy. The pattern is a #81 on the gec. I figured you might get an accurate reading off one of the blades. That 1095 really forms a nice patina esp when u start cutting up acidic foods and the geometry is quite slicey. I'm fairly happy with the results, majority hit the range they were shooting for. Good tunes as well thx Kurt Merry Christmas.

We'll find out when BJ runs those 3 in his retention tests. I'm down to 2 CS Voyager XLs Kurt, with no intention of further Cold Steel purchases. Hi! 440C is magnetic as well as most steels used in cutlery. Stainless steels...better put, stain resistant steels all have a high amount of iron as a main element. Some steels, like 316 are still attracted to magnets, but it is very weak. Alloys, like Hastelloy that are extremely high in nickel and chromium, are not. Any 400 series type of stainless will still be magnetic. The last half dozen or so Ganzos that I have tested, did not read as a 440 steel, but read as a 420SS. That is how 8Cr and similar steels read. There wasn't nearly enough chromium. From the PMI results, it looks more like an 8Cr or 9Cr with around 13.5% chromium. If it is that, the positive thing is they are running it harder than most other makers that use it, including Spyderco. I don't like dishonesty from any company, but, in this case, it might actually be a good thing. I am no expert, but I do know that 440C has a fairly intensive and strict protocol to do it well. Ganzo would not do 440C right, and 8Cr/9Cr done well is probably much better than poorly done 440C. I do wish they would just be honest about it.
