    Hi Lee, Thanks for your excellent review following which I placed an order for one.
    It has arrived and the build quality is excellent and it's just the right weight. The layout is nearly identical to my Futaba 14SG apart from the rotary knobs which I don't use much anyway, the side sliders are much better. Being much smaller and lighter than the 14SG, it is perfect for slipping into my rucksack along with a small glider when walking the hills and cliffs.
    I have mainly S-FHSS receivers and it binds nicely to them with a slight tweek of the Frequency Tune option to get them spot on (I am brand new to Open TX). I also have 5 Corona receivers about 8 years old which I used to use with a plug in tx module in my Robbe FC-18. They had been sitting in a drawer but I was easily able to bind them all so they will now have a new lease of life with the TX12. Many thanks!

    I love my Jumper T8SG V2 carbon edition which is comparable in size and I have it paired it with TBS CROSSFIRE MICRO TX V2 and the latency is amazing. Its crisp and quick. The size and price is perfect for beginners and it is perfect for use with simulator and yes doesn't take up much space when left next to your PC.

  • @MrD

    Looks good. My biggest issue would be that RadioMaster have those push buttons in place of SA and SD switches.
    Most OpenTX transmitters leave those switches in place, so they are consistent. I think for this to be a perfect beginners radio. The push buttons on the front should have been swapped with the 3 way switches on the top. Making the push button in the SE position latching would have been really handy to for an arming switch.
    Why does this matter? You mention cloning in models from other OpenTX radios. The switch designations where they are pretty much makes this redundant. As all OpenTX transmitters have different switch designations to this layout. I’m sure it would be fine for quad pilots, who have hardly any switches set up. But for a fixed wing pilot, there are much more switches used, especially with a flight controller in use.
    Other than that, it looks like a good little transmitter.

    • @goku445

      Exactly my opinion. Not enough switches for plane users.

    Excellent review, Lee. I was skeptical about this one as it has only CC2500 chip, but for the price it's a really good backup radio and probably the one I'll use to teach my 8-year old kid

    Thumbs up. Here in US, X9-Lite is still the mainstay because of Amazon prime. But, the JR bay of the radiomaster is really outdated. The extra long pin holes for extra long pins of the 70's were invented by some Electronics company. Everyone damages it at least one time by accident when 2 long pins are not aligned properly.

     @Painless360 - What range can we expect with TBS CRSF Tx module installed at the back? Sorry for my n00b question... but if used exclusively with TBS Crossfire Tx module, does the radio type affects the range, or is it solely depending on CRSF module? Thank you so much for your answer!

    I have a Taranis XD9 (not plus version) using FrSky R9M, do you think this radio is better than my old Taranis? Would it make any sense to use this one instead?

    • @goku445
      @goku445 4 года назад

      Good question. I have the same radio. From first sight it seems that the screen is lower resolution and there are less switches to work with which is annoying if you use something like a plane and INAV. Apart from that the form factor, price and functionality are awesome but I wouldn't change my old Taranis for that. I would pick a bigger one.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  4 года назад

      This isn't a Taranis replacement IMHO. Not enough switches and the layout is very different. The TX16s is a closer match but feels a lot more 'bulky' in the hands.. See my kit picks 2020 video and my review of the TX16s..

      No detail on the website of what protocol it needs but I'd guess one of the Hubsan ones. github.com/pascallanger/DIY-Multiprotocol-TX-Module covers what chips in the multi-protocol module give you what protocols. For Hubsan the module needs the A7105 chip. The cheaper multi-protocol radios that don't have the full 4in1 module inside typically only ship with the CC2500 chip so you won't have the Hubsan stuff on it you need. You'd have the best chance of getting it to work by using a radio with the full 4in1 muti-protocol setup - like the RadioMaster TX16s..

    New to 2.4 ghz radios and binding, but understand the concept. Anyone have experience binding the RadioLink R8EF to the TX12? I downloaded the R8 instruction manual (not very helpful) and have watched several TX12 videos. Just can't get them to talk. Just to be clear, I also watched the Radiolink vid here on RUclips for binding the R8EF. But they used a Readiolink transmitter. I can get the R8 LED to stay red (as instructed in their video), but I still can't get a servo to move. I also tried using the binding function in my TX12, but it just keeps beeping.

Taranis X9 Lite has them in serial configuration (one after another), and with that radio you need at least one battery to be button top, meaning, button needs to sit in the middle, between the two 18650s, otherwise there is no contact between batteries. Some people used to put a small piece of metal in between, but that's not the safest thing to do. TX12 is great, both batteries can be flat top.

      The same as any other Opentx powered radio. See my videos on plane setup with OpenTX... Best of luck

    All Radiomaster had to do was put a ELRS internal board in this radio. Instead they built the ZORO with horrible battery life.

      It will bind to a lot of different receiver types. Check out the RadioMaster TX16s playlist for more detail on what modern multi-protocol radios can do.. Best of luck..

    I love radiomaster products and would buy this in a heartbeat IF it had a 4 in 1. Sorry but Radiomaster messed up on this one.

      Hmm tx16s would fix that? But maybe price is an issue? The jumper t12 have full 4 in 1 MPM but I think it cost more than this

    Exactly becose smal form factor i am stuck on JUMPER T8SG it is ergonomic and i stil fly with my old JUMPERT8SG PLUS it have hall efect gimbals onley thing that disturbed me is Deviation TX othervise i prefer smaller radios,and Radiomaster tx12 Mini loks like they tok a housing of Jumper and pake Open Tx version......But Jumper t8sg is still beter than these becose it have full 4 in 1 module,hall efect gimbals,and DIY module kit.
