    The R168 is exactly the receiver I've been waiting for in vain from FRSky:
    * 8 pwm outputs
    * Proper plastic case
    * VBAT input without fiddling with external resistors
    * Proper servo connector outputs for sbus and s.port, no soldering flimsy wires
    * Decent bind button
    * Ability to easily select which flavour of ACCST I want to use
    So much better than the RX6R I've been using as my default receiver and less than half the price. All I want now is a stabilised equivalent to the S8R with the same VBAT input and a similar price saving!

      Hey Chris! Why oh why are FrSky not giving us what we want rather than trying to peddle stuff the hobby isn't interested in any more? They had the entire market for cheap, OpenTX powered systems sewn up and blew it leaving the door wide open for RadioMaster and Jumper.. Happy holidays!

    Hey Painless, I have the Radiomaster TX16s radio with the R86 & R88 receivers. In four different planes and they all keep telling me RSSI LOW a lot, so I did the "fine tuning”, and it has reduced the number of times it telling me that RSSI LOW to once or twice a flight. any ideas of what to try I have not found any thing to tell me the proper placement of the antennas. I have been installing one straight back from the receiver and the other at 90 degrees of the other. could this be my problem? How do you place the antennas? Thanks!!

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  3 года назад

      Low RSSI can be caused by lots of things and you've done the basics on the radio to remove those. Antenna routing, placement, alignment and local RF noise at the field all take their toll...

    The R168 DID not work out of the box for me. Was confused at first since I didnt immediately find any firmware options for it online, but it was just hidden somewhat down on the radiomaster download center page. After that I unfortunately had to cut off a couple of spare servos wires to make something what would flash the new firmware. Use the S.Port, voltage and ground port to flash.

    • @MrDLRu
      @MrDLRu Год назад

      Same here. You would think the instructions would mention the protocol required and all, as it's a Radiomaster receiver most likely purchased for Radiomaster transmitters. Typical idiots running the show. This is just in case the Radiomaster idiots pop in with something to say...Per instructions for binding R86C: 1) Turn on your transmitter and select the desired protocol...Yup, just select whatever desired protocol you want.

    Many thanks for your informative videos. I purchased a couple of R88 V2's recently in both LBT and FCC models. I cannot for the life of me get them program a failsafe. After applying the failsafe throttle -100% settings in my RM TX16's the motor just spins on at it's last setting after turning off the TX. I also tried the Receiver option in failsafe and that didn't work either. The LBT model binds in FrSky X LBT and the FCC again in FrSky X D8 or D16. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong, would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  4 месяца назад

      Bind using the D16 setting. It is not possible to customize Failsafe with D8 protocol, you can use D16 to re-bind, select Receiver or Custom in the remote Failsafe, and then press the receiver button within 10 seconds of the receiver being powered on.

    I see that RM dropped their D16 series of receivers awhile back and although I was able to still buy some does it mean that there is no RM RX product that supports s.port. ?. (Rather than using a timer on my TX I have always used a FrSky battery cell level sensor connected to the s.port of the RX).

    Great video. I have been following all of your ethos videos since I also have a x18 transmitter. Now for the radio master question. I purchased a R88 receiver which apparently is a early version, not a v2 and I cannot get it to bind to my frsky 18s. I wonder if I’m doing something wrong. Thanks for the video. I've been going through your channel over the past few weeks and it has been super helpful getting me started in RC. I have some questions - I'm just getting into RC and I'm thinking that I should go with the Boxer as is has a bunch of channels and knobs, high transmit power, and supports telemetry. I plan to work in Ardupilot with a Pixhawk/controller that can run Arduplane and am wondering:
    - How to find a receiver compatible with the Boxer and supports receiving the sensor data from the flight controller/Arduplane, and support SBUS/PPM for the flight controller.
    - Is an SBUS/PPM output/input on the receiver what sends telemetry back to the transmitter? Is transmission of controller telemetry into the Boxer-sytle of transmitter screen even possible?
    - Does the Boxer work with SBUS or PPM, or is that up to the receiver I choose?
    - Can Ardupilot even send telemetry back to the Boxer or is that an iNav thing?
    Thanks!

      Hey Josh, building UAV systems can be a lot of fun but there are loads of terminology that can get in the way. I just finished a video on ESC protocols and have one planned to revisit receiver protocols soon. But in the mean time -
      - If your Boxer is a Multiprotocol one, I'd look at the X8R, X4R, XSR and similar receivers from FrSky.
      - SBUS sends signals to the flight controller digitally. It's one way. Receiver to flight controller.
      - SBUS is down to the receiver. All of the ones in the first answer will provide SBUS
      - Yes. Using a separate Telemetry link. Smartport is something on those receivers too and I have many videos showing the setup.
      Check out my series aimed at beginners for the technology you want. Also, check out the Yaapu videos for how to use telemetry too.. Best of luck!

      One specific difference is that d8 does not allow to set custom failsafe settings, in contrast to d16. For the rest I don’t know 🤷🏼‍♂️

      Not yet - if you need more than a couple of km check my Tracer and Crossfire videos..

    These receivers look great for wings, I guess for quads is the small D8, but range won't be good for 5 inchers, mostly whoops then

      D8 has great range - it's only the SPI versions that are not great..

    Anybody knows how to enable F.PORT on the R161 ?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  3 года назад

      Check the firmware for it on the site - www.radiomasterrc.com/article_cat-14.html there is an Fport flavour..

    • @constantinmarcel2680
      @constantinmarcel2680 3 года назад

      It is not as simple as selecting F.PORT on the FC board and expect the receiver to work with it, right ? To work with FPORT we'd need a FW update from Radiomaster ?

    So it is time for Frsky to play catch up with Radiomaster.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  4 года назад +2

      FrSky lost the plot years ago and stopped listening to what we wanted. It would be so easy for them to get back into the lead with a little effort, but they'd have to stop drinking their own cool-aid to do that and I'm still not seeing that happening anytime soon.. Happy holidays!

    the acronyms for receivers must have peaked.
    Makes no sense to continue with that nightmare.
