Mine just arrived yesterday, I also got the ELRS version. I have to say the overall quality of the radio is impressive. The newbies don't know how good they have it these days. This radio is hugely capable in theory if the hardware proves reliable. First impressions are good and the plastics are definitely more solid than what FrSky has done with the old x9d plus, which is what I'm replacing. Just flew the first time today, flew a plane around the field. Maybe 40 minutes or so of flight time and I had no weird radio issues so definitely pleased so far. I am all in on this ELRS stuff, it's just so cool. I'm a guy that flies planes and quads, one feature I am hoping they come out with sometime in the future is the ability to set your preferred packet rate during model setup, so that when you change over to a plane it will go to 333 or 100 automatically. Then when you go to a race quad it goes right to FLRC1000, then you can have a long range model where it goes to Lora250 or 150. That would be cool if it did this for you without having to change it manually when you switch between models.
This is great! I almost got a mambo but couldn't get past some of the down sides. I been wanting to go to ELRS, now I can with few compromises. Thanks for the video Lee👍
I think I like almost everything about this radio! One thing though, I would prefer the 2-position switches on the shoulders of the tranny and the push buttons on the front like my TX12 Mk2. Nice to see the extra trim switches gone! Got to get me one of those batteries.
It looks nice but why cannot Radiomaster highlight the writing on the buttons in white so that they are easier to see? I have had to do it myself on my Zorro.
The RM Boxer's rotary encoder is pretty rough IMO. Maybe i got a runt. The gimbals are fine however i wouldn't say this TX is for small hands like the Devo 7e was.
Totally agree , my new TX16S is still in its box as I still use the Jumper T12 plus which has most items this radio is missing and was tremendous value. Both on Open Tx i've still not yet been able to crossover from the T12 external 4in1 to the TX16S internal yet without model challenges from the copied list .
It really does seem to be physically between the tx12 & tx16s, but with lesser processing oomf (like the qx7 vs x9d+). It will likely be right at home in many hangers with simple to moderate models, without being 'too small' like some folks say about the tx12. Also probably a great trainer unit.
Nice review. So its just a square zorro basically. With the 6 position switch. Looking for a new fixed wing transmitter and i would have liked it if it had a couple more switches over the zorro but doesn't offer much more. That battery life is sweet though! Looks like the tx16s it is then.
Just received mine (UK 4in1) - quite disappointed that it doesn't support Radiomaster's very own receivers - specifically R84/R81/R86 (version 1's - D8 - tho' R168 D16's are OK) - unless you know better ? Otherwise, a _very neat_ and tidy transmitter - much more ergonomic (and lighter) than the TX16s (IMHO) - might even be a keeper this time 🙂 The textile handle is actually a nice feature for me. Surprised that no-one uses e-paper displays for transmitters - even though they are slower, the visibility is 100% (in the light 🙂) - and put them at the top of the tx, not hide them under the neckstrap /rant.
If radio master came with this Boxer model but with a touch screen with full color lcd. Then it will be very appealing. Or perhaps a Zorro 2 with also color and touch screen and more standard 18650 batteries I will be sold
With my luck they'll produce the TX16Smini right after I buy this Boxer. I waited for a tx12v2, they produced the Zorro, bought that and waddaya know a year later?!? Tx12v2!!!! Been waiting for a smaller option, the Zorro is nice but just to small for me, tx16sv1 is just to big for me when flying race quads.. Options options options....
This video really makes me question if I could pull off an ascot? The answer is a solid, No. I would look silly. But I did preorder a boxer to replace my accst QX7, can't wait!
Good informative review! I would have appriciated a side by side size comparison with tx16s and tx12. Maybe you could make a short video about it? It would also be nice to know the actual body thickness of these radios. The way manufacturers measure the radio thickness is useless (from bottom of handle to the top of the sticks)...
Highly interesting. I'm looking for a fpv specific radio since quite some time as absuing the trainer port for the crossfire on my dx9 in the long run proves to be problematic. Would be interesting to see a full set up tour with crossfire from you.
@@Painless360 oh I figured like most toggle switches they are attached with a nut on the other side. Depends how long the wires are if solder would be needed
What a great review. I'm entering the hobby to fly fixed wings, then move to possibly to quads. Would you recommend this transmitter? If not what would you recommend and why? I've done RC cars in the past and the whole world of radios has changed so much since the 1990s :)
See my Kit Picks video from Summer 2022. Lots of pilots go for an EdgeTX and ExpressLRS radio now. RadioMaster are one of the leaders of those who sell them and it depends on what it is you want. Most radios with trims will allow for easy use with both fixed wing and quads..
The 4in1 model you have can bind to my old Frsky receivers? If so, let me know once you want to shelve it after reviewing it 😊 would be a great replacement for my tired QX7 😁

Thanks for the comprehensive review. You compare it a few times to the QX7 - how does it compare to the X9 Lite S? Both in terms of size, and also is it a worthwhile upgrade?
@@Painless360 Thanks. I agree with your previous video that the X9 Lite is more of a beginner radio but has a steep learning curve. From your review, the Boxer seems to be the next level up in terms of switches and quality, for not a huge amount more money. Maybe it will be my next radio...
Hi there, just a naive question. I have ordered the Boxeer from Bangood ELRS Version. I wanted to know if i can bind it to the Beta FPV Meteor 65 Pro ELRS version. I have heard that SPI Receivers are hard to bind to the boxer. Not sure how true is that. I hope i dont have to downgrade or upgrade any firmwares to make this happen

(I recently bought some new rx's, then had to send them back to be re-loaded with the other, older version!)
I understand you can swith from mode 2 to mode 1 in the software on this radio. But can you physically alter the gimbals to throttle on the right stick (ratcheting) and elevator / ailerons on the left stick (self-centering)?
Yes. One of the better things about the RM Boxer Gimbals is that you change the spring return / tension etc all from the front. The bad news is RM don't give any info about which screws do what. Another bad thing is after the TX has been sitting around for months with the springs under tension ... guess what ... the're stretched.
