You should check out Beetle Percussion Carlos Botello signature pad. The rim is made out of thick rubber so you can tell if it's a rim shot or tick(huge sound difference). Plus it's more gentle to sticks. The chop builder side is a huge plus also❤
1000000% a sweet spot in the middle. I love the feel and packability of this one. It's funny that you mention the old Remo pads... this one reminds me of the Remo pad. Except, the Remo pad had more of a definitive rim shot than this one. Thanks for dropping by, Carl!
The old tunable remo pads made it obvious if you hit a shot. Also, people went away from the remo pads because they were loud but these new marching pads are almost just as loud. Playing on the remo pad for long periods of time actually force you to soften your hands to play faster.
Truth! I bought a Realfeel for that exact reason - the Remo was too loud. The shots were pretty glorious on those old Remo pads, but I remember the rim on mine starting to chip and crack lol
Hey loving the form of the content you produce it’s different than anyone else in the community and approaches teaching in a understandable manner. With that being said could you make a video about building chops? Ex: what exactly is building chops, how to build up your chops, and some of the most effective exercises to build chops. ALSO a question i’ve never had answered that i would like to know it how many times to practice each exercise before moving on as i’ve always felt the dilemma of I know I am practicing this but is it enough for today to effectively build chops. Particularly chop building for the world class DCI level from someone at the high school or early college level!
Thanks for the support, I'm glad you're here! Oh man, there's so much in there! You've definitely given me some things to add to my list of videos to make. So, thank you! Might need to make that one sooner rather than later - what a good idea for a video!
Welllllllllll, I haven't gotten my hands on an Outlander yet. BUT, if you go with the Outlander, you have the option of getting the vinyl mylar laminate (VML) with it. (My review of the Invader V3 talks about the VML.) Also, the Outlander appears to have a surface on the bottom that they intended to be playable. The bottom of the IP pad is just thick mousepad material. Sure, you can play on it, but I'm fairly certain it's only there to keep the thing from sliding around on a table. You're probably getting more for your money with the Offworld Outlander. I don't know the details.of the deal that went down, but I would imagine that since Offworld owns the patent on the design, even if you buy the IP, Offworld is getting a slice of that sale anyway. Lol
I'm getting this black IP pad just to flex on people for the fact that I chose not to get more for my money with the outlander lol. Plus IP is cool. You should do a review on the Innovative Percussion RP 1R (red pad), so we can compare it to the IP black pad. thanks @@paddric_ryan
Many people says it's the same(there's probably a slight difference). But the latest Offworld Pads now has a recycled rubber playing surface on the bottom instead of a non-slip, non-playable ones. Plus you can attach a Mylar Laminate to the Outlander.
I was debating on getting either this pad or an off world invader v3 VML, but they changed the V3 design so it no longer has the dark matter on the bottom. Which one do you think is more worth getting?
Right now, at this very moment (03 May 2024 lol), I'd go with the Invader. They're on sale! Even though I have no idea what the other side feels or sounds like, you're getting more pad for your money! Remember, you can take the VML off and put it back on. The IP pad only has one intended playing surface.
@@paddric_ryan lol, I didn’t know you could take the vml off! That definitely helps. Now they have like the same kind of material on the bottom that the ip pad has so I want very sure how much different the pads are. Thank you!
@@joshlozano2732 I thought the new bottom was more of a recycled tire rubber, like what Beetle pads have... 🤔 The IP is mouse pad material and it doesn't give me the impression they want you to play on it - it's just to keep it from sliding around on table tops.

Public Service Announcement: playing a pad will never substitute for playing a drum. It's possible to develop an entire skill set on the pad, only to find that large portions of it don't translate to the drum. And vice-versa.
@@jeffmansfield914 sometimes. Lol, no.. I asked a question in a practice pad Facebook group and a bunch of people seemed interested in more in-depth videos. Some people even wanted different sticks along with putting the thing on different surfaces. I had to draw the line somewhere.. so I'll only change sticks if it makes sense to do so. This particular pad is marketed as a "corps pad" so I decided against using something like a 5A. These videos are for people who want to know as much as possible when weighing their options on where to spend their money. I am trying to make them shorter, but man.. it's hard to please everyone. @@paddric_ryan I probably will stick around. I was just busting your chops a bit about the length. I mean, I will probably fast forward through you going through the process of making yourself a cup of coffee starting with grinding the beans 😵💫, but I am interested in a decent pad for reliving the marching days as a 47yo. Got any recommendations for something with a good feel (better than Vic Firth gray rubber pad) but that is decently quiet to avoid being murdered by a wife or kids?
@@jeffmansfield914 hah! I love it! Yeah, that's my own self indulgence and I appreciate everyone suffering through it. 🤣 For what you're looking for, I think the Carlos Botello pad by Beetle Percussion would fit the bill perfectly. It's not too harsh on the main side and the chop-out side is SUPER quiet.
Right? It's almost like playing on one, except the playing surface on this thing has a touch more give than a butcher block. I do like the sound though... Am I weird? 🤣
He kinda reminds me of a younger Adam Savage from Mythbusters hehe. He is missing his favorite IPA T-shirt lol. I like him and his videos though. Good stuff🤘🥁

That's definitely on my list since I recently acquired one..... 😀
I was curious about the difference between the invader and the cp1 pad. Then this video suddenly pop up into my notification
I'm hoping to snag an Outlander to do a true 1 to 1 comparison!
You make me smile and chuckle! And . . .you know what you are doing!
Great video as always! Would love to see a Rudimental Drummers pad review in the future if possible
Oooooh, yessssss! Thanks for the reminder!
I dig the sound of this little pad, and it seems like there’s a true “sweet spot” near the center.
I still miss my old gray Remo pad though 😆

I think you get more bang for your buck with Offworld.
My IP James Campbells are my favorite sticks as far as how they feel- when I grab them, I feel like I am better at my craft, if that makes sense lol
