I also had a really hard time getting into JJK, but once I started reading it instead, so much easier and it's actually pretty great. Yuji has some of the best character growth in a series of late

nah the character development in that manga/cartoon is nonexistent but if they say that s2 of jjk is mid they are smoking penises man. s2 of jjk is the best animated fighting anime ever. every fight done differently, dozens of references throughout the season, sukuna's fights are just the best fights in anime ever and the flashback episodes were insane. i dont even like shounen and fighting based anime but damn jjk s2 is as good as it gets. (s1 and the movie were just good at best, 7/10)

@etzstyy6301 a lot of the times its not a chore but if you have to power through it and the show is often regarded as one of the best shows in its genre, then you probably arent the exact target audience. for example when people say that you need to power through the first 10 episodes of steins gate, when in my eyes the first 10 episodes were very entertaining and ended up making a lot of sense later on as well.

my anime hot take: junjou romantica is actually a really fun anime/manga, and people should watch it bc its the OG "problematic yaoi". like, its HISTORY!! where else would i have been informed about the existence of gay people (me) at the tender age of 10 by watching an episode of it on youtube in three parts?? no one else was gonna tell me for years!!!
also the main character is voiced by the voice actor for reigen in mob psycho (in japanese obviously) and its just very fun to hear that iconic voice but in younger and gayer.

My hot take: filler episodes (not filler arcs) are good, most anime just tend to do a bad job at making them.
Listen. Filler should expand the characters and/or world so that when those plot-filled episodes come, you care more. Shock value is cheap- I’m not going to care if a character dies if the ‘why’ behind their wants and needs haven’t been explored yet.
I agree with this! But I also like the filler arcs along with the filler eps because as you said most anime do a bad job at making them and when they do it’s really great execution and thus provide a lot of subtle info and details that allows me to be immersed in the anime I am watching (personal take lol)
I think filler episodes are inherently episodes where that doesn't happen. Sure, most people use the definition of "not in the manga = filler", but personally, and I think a lot of people agree, if it's not strictly defined in the manga, that if any character progression or meaningful development happens so that you feel more connected to a character than you would otherwise, then it's not filler. If you can't skip it and get pretty much the same gist and connection to the characters, it's not filler. This is conceptually true because that was the point of filler episodes, to stretch out the series without anything of value happening within them so that it still matches the actual next episode. Can't have the character not acknowledge a filler episode if something meaningful happened. Some people use the filler term to trash talk slow episodes, but they're just using the wrong term, since they wouldn't be filler episodes. This is exemplified in shows like Steven Universe, where some world building episodes are called filler by some people, but they just aren't. And some episodes CAN be treated as filler because it's a plot of characters that never show up again in any important manner, and the world feels the same without them.
So in short, I think you're describing non-filler episodes when you describe good filler episodes. Can episodes not in the manga technically be not-filler? If they executed it better and built characters better than the manga did, then yeah. It's called an improvement, one of the benefits of adapting to a new media. It's not filler if it's filling in with purpose.
@@Star14Light Personally, whether or not I like filler arcs depends on the show. If a show has set an expectation of being plot-heavy then I'm going to be against filler arcs- y'know? However, if a show promotes itself as slice-of-life then I'm more open to a filler arc.
That said, I also want to see build-up have a pay-off. Filler arcs often lend themselves to less pay-off than I'd like: too many loose ends to tie and keep track of.
@@johndinner4418 I use the word "filler" to describe whenever a piece of media supplements new stories while waiting on the original source for main plot continuation. The reason I use this definition is because I think lazy writing should just be called lazy writing.

I only read the manga and only until chapter 98 like 2 years ago. After reading all that i didnt get why it was so hyped everywhere so i just didnt continue with the new chapters.

(Tldr: bl ships occur in fandoms when authors end up writing best friends more like lovers than the lovers themselves)
most of the time, there’s a lot of bl shipping that goes on in a lot of fandoms not because of delusion but because authors have this weird thing of making male characters more fleshed out and interesting than the love interest (usually female). And from the personality dynamics + screen time of the characters interacting more naturally than the love interest- it ends up that way in the fandom.
I agree with the filler take, although I feel like they’re better when you watch them after the arc they interrupt or after you fish the show.

naruto is the best out of the big 3. the world is so seamless, everything just works and makes sense, everyone fights differently and the choreography is fantastic and the plot is good enough, the characters are fantastic as well.
one piece suffers from horrible pacing (im caught up), imo horrible character design in a sense that most characters just dont fit in and half of the scenes from the show look like its a toy story scene with all the random colorful creatures. also the fights in the show are horrendous. luffy and kaido/katakuri did nkt need to be that long lmao, they all jist repeated the same 5 moves. hopefully witt remake fixes these things because then op will sit clearly at the top and i would have no issue calling it the greatest anime ever

I think that Re:zero has a certain audience. Those who relate tend to think its amazing. And those who don't relate, but understand the message, tend to think its OK or pretty good. I think that statistically speaking, its probably less common for women to find themselves in Subaru; to see his pain and his growth and appreciate what's going on. Some might not even like it cuz its too painful a reflection. I'd say on average the more you like Re:zero the more you relate/understand the subversion.
Re:Zero is not an unicorn. It's designed for certain audience and that's it. Just because said audience is populous doesn't mean it's perfect by any means. And even if it's that great, you can still dislike it due to certain elements.
