Yay! I was looking forward to a pond update. Your photography and videography is so beautiful! Around 4:40 it looks like the dove was actually floating and swimming like a duck. I had no idea they did that. I loved the Tree Swallow story! I was really routing for that little guy to make it. One tip for your pond. Maybe consider adding a couple shrubs or small trees along the bank. I have a much smaller bird pond but I’ve noticed that just about every bird lands in one of the surrounding shrubs before entering the pond. I have an oak leaf hydrangea and sand cherry on one side and a small service berry tree on the other. Plus branches and perches like you’ve added. Can’t wait to see who shows up at your pond during fall migration!

Thanks so much! I know, that was the first time I saw a dove do that, so strange lol. Great tip! At the beginning of the year I put in some cuttings on the right side of the pond. They are pretty slow growing though so maybe I'll look around for some larger, more established shrubs to get it kickstarted a little quicker!

Hi Stefano, from Australia. Regarding algae in ponds. Here we might get toxic blue green algae in dams. Usually if there has been superphosphate runoff. Solution is put in some bales of hay. Forms a raft might go up and down depending on temp. Little black dots on the straw rafts are Daphnia. Water fleas which eat blue green algae! Soon water is clear again. Nice story.

Hi Stefano - I have nothing like what you have in terms of land availability and a pond, but I have had the spotted dove and the red whiskered bulbul and the sun bird build nests and hatch in my house. (spotted dove is the most successful - in the last 4 years at least 15 times x 2 chicks per hatch 🙂🙂) . During the lockdown I bought a binocular and started spotting birds in my residential layout (Bangalore, India) and made a file. I am proud to say that I have identified and recorded totally 35 birds in my file. In addition, I have also had squirrels eat and nest in my house. Recently a stray cat has been spotted, I don't know if his interest is in the birds or in the mice ( I have plenty of them causing destruction in both my cars - spent nearly 2000 Dollars in repairs in the last 4 years ). I just have a small piece of land with some plants in front of my house. I just put rice grains, cooked food leftovers and also and place a few bowls of water for the birds to drink and bathe. There are more than a dozen street dogs which also get fed twice everyday. I am very interested in establishing a very small sized pond in my land in the future (nothing big like what you have created). Your videos give me a lot of ideas and inputs. Love them a lot. Keep em coming !! 😇😇😇😇. Best wishes. Prasad Senji
