      Don't bother with the expensive pond foam - it's identical to normal expanding foam, it's just black. Home Depot has black spray foam, I use that. It's not water proof, it just helps direct water, so definitely use the cheaper option next time. And yes, keeping that cheaply made flex hose inside the liner is best. If I had to guess, it's a 20ft roll from Canadian Tire. It will become brittle and crack anywhere exposed to the sun. Mine did it right at the pump connection, which was the deepest, so not sure they are made to last more than 2 seasons. And it turned out gorgeous!! Ha, don't worry, the 'pros' wing it all the time. Turned out great!

    Simply amazing! I have redone mine several times trying to get it right. I have come to the conclusion that the wildlife doesn’t care. I highly recommend adding some plant life to eat up the algae that will accumulate. I had to dig out a deeper section at the lower end of mine to put potted water plants in it and it made a huge difference in the quality of my water, but I’m sure you already know that :)

      That reminds me of a question I had while watching this. I've only ever had long-term success with a glass birdbath that's easy to clean, since every other birdbath I've experimented with seemed to need a lot of frequent cleaning to get rid of algae, dirt, fallen leaves, etc. Especially when there were loose river rocks in the birdbath. I was scrubbing off those loose stones every weekend, and I have a decent solar-powered pump with a filter system. So how do you keep the birdbath clean enough for birds to keep using it?

    • @NatureFilmsByJohnKha
      @NatureFilmsByJohnKha Год назад +4

      @@Cyssane Good question! There's so many variables that can make it challenging! Keep the bird bath out of the sun and in the shade to minimise algae growth and also copper pieces helps too, such as old copper coins. I use river stones for their smooth surface and avoid porous stones, I do stick with smooth surfaced bird baths too as they're easier to clean. I have a dedicated brush and some vinegar nearby if I need a good clean! Glass can get heavy so I have switched to hard UV protected plastic of late

    What a little haven you’ve created, it looks great. It must be really satisfying seeing wildlife start to come and enjoy the spaces you make for them. Can’t wait to see what turns up over the coming months 😊

    You have inspired me! Questions!
    It seems you have the pump rinning 24/7 and you probably will during the winter as well, is it a special pump?
    What is its water capacity and how much water is in your feature?
    How will you stop the water from freezing in the winter?
    Thank you!

    4:07 what a beautiful reference to previous experience with aquatic frog catching! Regarding entire project & clay soil consideration…I thought NEXT LOGICAL & LAZY step could have been run pump up hill for a year and see what you get with $20 of electric and hopefully $20 of water…maybe $100 dead pump…but easier

    Good to see you getting it done as per your current skills - perfection is so over-rated and often leads to nothing being finished! Thanks from the UK.

    One day I came around one of his videos while I was high asf and having a super bad trip thinking about my future. This video was what made me smile and calm my anxiety, from that day onwards I watch one of his videos to calm me down and appreciate nature. Thank you for your amazing videos an amazing explanations. It’s crazy how you can make someone that has never seen it before, falling in love with nature instantly.
