Thx for THIS I hope, I may have been the one who helped push you with others to give Eric some PuB!!!!One of the dreamiest bassist and straight street bassist of that time. Thx. Cool if you’re going to tab out some riffs, check the first Lp. Too. Great stuff P. !!!!!! 1% of course Whores. Awesome site and teacher!!!!!
This doesn't get said enough but Eric Avery is one of the greatest and most underrated bass players ever. Especially on Ritual. That album changed my life and to this day I find it hard to find people that share that passion. I learned how to play bass with your albums. Mad respect. Thanks for teaching people how to be creative, melodic and articulate, but simple and direct at the same time. Shout out to Eric. If you're reading this: you rule man. Your solo stuff also is the shit and remains some of my favorite music ever. Highly recomended.
Thank You for this. Not a bass player here, but Eric Avery is one of my favorites...saw his name and couldn't click fast enough. I really like how you explain AND demonstrate the stylings/techniques.
Awesome, my favorite bass player, along with Stuart Zender (another underrated one by the way) Besides Jane’s, Eric also did the brilliant Deconstruction and Polar Bear albums. He is not only a great bassist, but great songwriter as well.
I don’t think Zender is underrated. He is widely known in the Bass world as one of the best Jamiroquai just never took off in the US as much as they did in Europe and the UK.
Thanks for doing this. This guy was my absolute bass hero when I first started playing. I was even fortunate enough to meet him once, after a Janes gig in 1991. He never seems to get the credit he deserves. Legend.
Very cool profile! Nice choice and always something to learn from any bassist. Man, the bass line from Been Caught Stealing just grooves and the Mountain Song brings me back to my club days and getting lost in the music.
Eric was the back bone and musical driving force in Janes Addiction. Imo they haven't released any nearly as good after he left the band. And if you check out their setlist from over the years it's still filled with the songs built around his bass lines. Very little is played off of the records he's not on.
0:23 Perry Farrell wanted Bill Laswell to produce "Nothing's Shocking", based on some of Laswell's world music production that Perry loved. Laswell turned them down without hearing them, based on this photo, lol. Lucky for them, Dave Jerden was the right guy for them.
I just ran across your channel and I subscribed love this video and this bass player! - i’m curious if you’ve done a video on Simon Gallup of the cure if so I’m sure I’ll run a crossed it if not well...
Avery's contribution to JA is immense, and genuinely under-rated. You nailed the role he played, and why it worked so well within that original line-up! Another great video on Janes here: ruclips.net/video/VeNNM0f7YVs/видео.html
Thx. I was hoping for a tab on Ted just admit. Ive been playin different. LoL. Also do they only play in standard or 1/2 step it’s seems live they drop a 1/2.
Eric didn't use much / any effects but he always used a rack mount compressor. I don't know the brand. But that's part of why he had such a punchy, even sound. You know the joke?: "What's the difference between a good bass player and a great bass player?" A: a compressor and 5 IQ points.

I always thought Eric was underrated, his playing was awesome and Mountain Song was one of the first bass lines I ever learned
The reason I play bass, Eric Avery, always inspires. ❤

Deconstruction is my favorite album, so wonderful, so overlooked.
@@BockwinkleB It's my favourite album too.
Thanks, I've been waiting for this one. Eric's bass lines were one of the main reasons I ever picked up a bass.
Same here. Only reason. Cool. Stuff.
Same here! I only played drums before, but because of Eric and also my love for reggae/dub basslines i wanted to start playing bass.
Same same ❤
Been asking for this one for awhile now. Woke up this morning and there it was. I love it. Thank you so much. You Rock!
Dude his Summertime rolls and three days bass lines are awesome
Those first two albums were top to bottom bangers. Can't wait for Colin Greenwood's episode

Thank you so much Paul, Eric was a huge influence on me and it's satisfying to hear his style broken down so well.
he had an awesome tone, heavy and thick without abandoning the funk vibe. one of the greatest grunge/alt bassists ever IMO
Eric is favorite bassist ever
Very cool profile! Nice choice and always something to learn from any bassist. Man, the bass line from Been Caught Stealing just grooves and the Mountain Song brings me back to my club days and getting lost in the music.
Thanks Paul, I started playing 4 years ago and this dude is a huge influence. Love your videos!

Thanks for this motivating video !
I play guitar and just learning bass.

The reason I started playing bass, thanks Eric A!
hey dude could you do a video about D'arcy wretzky from smashing pumpkins please🙏
I hope you know Billy played most of the bass on the albums.
@@turdferguson3855yeah but.... not in gish and siamese dream brother
@@rudymila4325 wrong, Billy played bass to save on studio time = money.
Why I wanted to play bass. Thx
Will you ever make a video on how to play like Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel) or John Wetton (was also in King Crimson)?
Brilliant original player
Un bassista dall’impronta veramente unica… bella analisi Paul! ⚡️❤️
Thank you

How do ya make
Chords FROM BassLines, please?
A chord is at least 3 notes (root or 1st, 3rd, 5th) the "bass line" is the order in which the notes in the chord are played
Hell ya, I really enjoyed this: Honest, simple as eff and how old is your bass and the strings? It sounds great - '
Great video bro!!!
It would be great you make a video about greg lake
Avery is a legend
hey paul really like the bass habits videos ,id like to see one about bobby dall from poison next \m/
Will you make a vid on dave blood?
i learned a lot from eric a. the bassline is the song for example.
I wonder how many people love Avery's iconic basslines and somehow confused bass with guitar and attributed everything to Navarro.

...still waiting for dUg Pinnick of KING's X to appear here...
NOT TO FORGET PAUL D'AMOUR and JUSTIN CHANCELLOR OF TOOL and EX TOOL
You should do Rob Grange of Ted Nugent, criminally underrated bassist
Deconstruction.
You're welcome.
