My favorite 3 rock bass players from the 90s 1. Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers 2. Tim Commerford from Rage Against The Machine 3. Rob DeLeo from Stone Temple Pilots.
I Believe both bass lines were done by studio bass player Herbie Flowers he realized if he did two different bass lines he got paid for 2 session, one upright bass and one electric bass
Flea is the best bassist in my mind. He can take this whole band and tie it together with a slap riff. On top of that it’s not to crowded. Not every bassist can do that
Flea is one of my biggest influences for bass and he inspired me to try and get a bit of slap into my playing, I also saw the Chili Peppers back in 2017 and it was one of the best shows I've been to. The guys definitely put on a great show and Flea is definitely one of my favourite bassists, great video as always man
I've watched all each of your "How to Sound Like" videos so far, I think this is the most in-depth, insightful one yet. Great observations about Flea's playing, set to some great photos of the funky monk himself. Bravo.
I loved this fresh take on Flea's playing. Thanks for the effort you put into it. And, as you say, it's not the notes you play but the notes you don't play.
Flea cannot be overrated. Look at his impact: he is the single one guy within the last 35 years to a) bring the bass to the average music listener's attention, and b) motivate a full generation of kids to pick up the bass as their instrument of choice. No bass player before or thereafter achieved that.
Bel video come sempre. Ti seguo da poco e, da ex bassista, apprezzo molto le tue analisi. Sono anche andato sul video del tuo gruppo e ho dato il mio diligente "like". :) Grazie!
I love this series of yours Paul! Most awesome part imo: in some of those videos you apply the stuff you researched and put it into effect on a new bassline. That is so super educative.
Some may find this odd but I AM NOT a fan of slap and pop but I am a fan of Flea. When he shows his more melodic side like the line in "Scar Tissue😁. I can appreciate the technique when he slaps but the attention this video paid to his melodic side sets it apart from other vids on Flea, Molto Bene! Grazie, Grazie!
Man I really love your channel I dig it so much as a guitar player going to base it is helped me understand the role of the base and techniques like I would have never have before! Such a great channel!
Also he tends to do some bends hear and there. But if you listen to some of his live solos, he has distortion and he tends to bend the strings a lot. And he also has wonderful vibrato.
I once did a band Audition but realized very quickly that they could not actually play their instruments. So after they showed my what they had (which was quite bad) they said we are after someone who plays like Flea. I told them "Hey if i could play like Flea i wouldn't have wanted to audition for their band in the first place" and left.

i would like to ask if you can do a video on dirk lance, he is not that known, but is an amazing bass player that deserves more recognition in my humble opinion, if you could do a video it would be awesome
Hi. I really enjoyed your vid where you explain why you think Gene Simmons is contrary to what most say a great bassist. I've got a challenge for you. Do the same for Roger Waters. Please!
i dont think flea is overrated, i think the problem is his popularity, he is put as the greatest bass player in the world by so many people that dont know a shit about bass playing because he is one of the most popular known good bass players, ( and we know this people tend to be annoying pretending he is god and you dont know a shit if you say no), but is not his fault is fans fault.

Leon Wilkeson
Rex Rocker
Geddy Lee
Tom Araya
Mike Starr
FLEA IS VERY INSPIRING🔥
I loved this fresh take on Flea's playing. Thanks for the effort you put into it.
And, as you say, it's not the notes you play but the notes you don't play.
There are some interesting "chordal" basslines by Flea for example Encore, We Believe, Hey, Dont Forget Me and the outros of Snow and Dark Necessities
As a bassist, i love these videos paul. you are awesome. Bassist of Skid Row next?
He did a video on underrated bassists and he was in that one
@@masbucket3083 more in depth vid would be cool but thanks for letting me know. that guy has so many good fills in skid row songs.

You also got the song title wrong, the song was actually Californication
Flea is RHCP
Flea AND John

These videos are great! You should do a video on John Wetton, specifically from his King Crimson years.
Greatest
Can you do a "How to Sound like Ben Shepherd"? Great video!
Can You do Geddy Lee please
Can’t you do a video with Paul McCartney or Carol Kaye! :)
It’s «californication” not “hump de bump” playing on 09:14
Great thanks for your videos)
leave a like is FLEA was your inspiration to start playing the bass guitar!
I know mine was! Still is!!!
I think there are 2 bass tracks on higher ground. There’s obviously the slap line but isn’t that low wah groove a bass track too?
💕
Love Flea

Jacks Bruce of Cream next!!
