Flea played a fair bit of Spector NS2 and Wal basses in the studio in the early years. BloodSugarSexMagic is almost entirely recorded with a four string Wal and a five string Stingray.
Great video man , you get very very close to fleas old sound with the sterling . The envelope filter effect you're running is also great with the overdrive. Flea actually plays the around the world verse with his finger just an fyi , it does sound cool slapped though albeit much harder to do the fills.
@@ampthebassplayer id send you mine, but I modded it with the wampler suggestions from his .pdf he used to sell... and with radio shack parts... yep, im old!
@@davedixon2167 I'm right there with ya- i don't think i'll ever replace mine. I've got it set up the same as you described and it sounds fantastic in a mix (new or dead strings), and it records great. I saw the bassist from Easy Action (John Brannon's band) play through one and he sounded incredible. It brings this warm, ampegy grind to my sound- tons of character.
Wanna sound like Flea? Grab a stingray or a MM pickup in the “sweet spot” and a J on the side I’m the same way a stingray or a MM pickup is my sound, with at times the Darkglass Xultra You nailed his “around the World” intro tone for sure!! Nice!
That 410 cabsim really does change the tone quite drastically from the comp+head alone! Sounds like you had to re-EQ a little between that and some of the initial samples?
The patch building process is a very holistic thing. Lots of nip and tuck as you go along. The clips I showed are just where everything ended up. I didn't realize how much that cab was doing until I was pretty far along into building it.
AMP you're such a sneaky good bass player. I've been watching u here and your channel a few years. And you're always consistent. I love 🦞 and 🐂 and Jonny Dibble. I know u guys are all friendly all so different. A quad of amazing men period
@@bassimprovjams3772 Yeah I've seen it a long time ago, but there weren't any amp setting or something explaining how to really sound like Cliff. It was more gear related
great vid🖤 it would be even more perf if the sterling pickup was rewired in parallel like a stingray. zingy fresh strings and parallel pickups give it that super bright clarityy
I am looking for options. I've been looking for options to get a modern metal clank clank tone. Darkglass is very expensive, so my options are zoom B1x4, or Demon FX A3k
Llevo tiempo buscando patchs para ese pedal, estoy empezando y quiero los sonidos de RHCP, Faith No More, Infectius Groove, entre otros. Muchas gracias por el aporte, lo haces genial. ya tienes un seguidor mas!!!
You have a lot of forearm movement when slapping. It doesn't matter if you slap like Flea with the thumb down or parallel to the strings it's always just a rotation of your wrist. And that rotation improves if you have your thumb further away from your index finger. I started slapping the Flea way and managed to copy his style really good but he has a unique ability to slap the bass that is not for every one. And when practising in the sitting position it doesn't feel that comfortable, so this is where i started practising the classic way of slapping and man this is so much more comfortable.
Flea is great and I've always liked his playing and the old Chile Peppers. I've been playing bass for 16 years now and have always played with my fingers. But I don't slap. I'm more of a Steve Harris style of player.🤘
sorry but it doesnt sound like flea, and let me tell you that even flea doesnt sound like flea anymore. He needs to get back to modulus, thats the most powerfull sound ever!
"The tone is in the hands, gear doesn't matter and we're all gonna die..."
The perfect quote for my upcoming tramp stamp tattoo!!!
Better than "live laugh love" I guess! lol
the same as you Patrick!!! you really sound good in every review you make!!!!
Flea and Claypool are the two main bassists that made me want to play. Really enjoyed the video.
For me it was Steve Harris, Geezer Butler and Geddy Lee. I never really liked Red Hot Chilly Peppers but I don appreciate his skills.
Gotta love Steve , Geddy and Geezer🤘🍺
Same man, Primus and Chili Peppers have been my favorite bands for a few years now and especially claypool inspired me to start playing bass
"It's Flea and Claypool with the Morning Zoo, right here on KAOS-FM." :P
I would love a version like this for Rex Brown in both PanterA and on the second DOWN album! Great content guys, love it!

Yes finally someone do the homework

Had that noisey odb-3 on my board for years... so glad I upgraded to the source audio aftershock!
As soon as I can get my hands on the Boss ODB-3, I want to shoot it out against the Zoom's version and see how they compare.
I still love the ol ODB - gain way down and mix at like 9-10:00 is a nice crunchy addition
The odb was my first pedal and damn I spent years trying to make it sound good. As soon as I switched to darkglass my sound transformed

Another cool video by AMP! Great job!
Flea sounded infinitely better with the wal and stingray than with any of those modulus, fleabass and now fenders.
yes
His sound on the two new records (jazz+SVT) is fantastic
modulus and jazz is classic.
Not to mention the GK amps!
Good to see our boi featured on a big name channel, and on a Flea video no less
Man I love these videos! Great job man!
Always enjoy these videos. Next one I like to see is Justin Chancellor.
Don't apologize for the Classic Vibe. Those things are SOLID!
Thought it sounded better than the Stingray myself!

This was just awesome!!😁
You forget to mention his attack when playing finger style - he often hits them strings pretty hard

consider making a Cliff Burton video! That would be amazing
Way ahead of you!

Excellent ! Thank you !!!
Great video!!! Thanks! How do I become a channel member to watch the other members only videos?
Loving this video! For his amps dont matter statement, I wonder if he's sending a direct signal to FOH before his amps?
🎶🎵🎶Psycho, Sir Psycho, yeah! ... he's the man that I met one time... 🎵🎶🎵
Was surprised to see amp here, follow him on tiktok 😂
Nice one of my fave bassist
Solid video! I would be interested in a video exploring Al Cisnero's sound!
Definitely need to redo Peter hook. In particular do his live sound, the wobbly chorus and the reverb
hello there! how did u simulate gk cabs?
how did the cabinet sound that different? i dont have zoom.. can i mimic that with just a EQ setting?
Id like to know how you set the Compressor settings, thanks
The exact settings are on my Patreon page here: www.patreon.com/posts/htsl-flea-from-67566600?
Cant forget a spector and a wal
How can i download on how to sound like flea

no way we both have the sqme squire p bass and a musicman but my musicman is black
Flea said in an interview he used an Alembic Epic exclusively for recording in the early days. He uses Stingrays in live only situations.

I am also not much of a slapper (if you couldn't tell), but it's definitely worth learning at least a little bit!
That Squier Jazz fingerboard is filthy.... Clean it FFS!!!!
But then It'll lose it's mojo®!
The funk is in the...surviving finger infection
Can you do Krist Novoselic next?
Video is up now!
Do how to sound like David ellefson next?
What I learned from this is....... Find your own sound 😊
Sometimes by studying other players, you find your own voice. :)
Please, how to sound like Mark Hoppus and Pete wentz (Even manía álbum).
How to sound like flea?!
Go heavy on the basics😉
like heavy on the octaves
i like flea as a player. and his sound on the records. but his sound on the live shows, live recordings or live tapes is not really good.
For me it is kind of exactly the opposite
La pulga rocks!!!!🙄🙄
I NEED BASS
Good work ! Sorry but i find the zoom od ugly. Much trebble noise
not even close to flea´s sound.
sorry but it doesnt sound like flea, and let me tell you that even flea doesnt sound like flea anymore. He needs to get back to modulus, thats the most powerfull sound ever!
OVERDRIVE!!! NOT FUZZ!!
Yeah the ODB-3 is really fizzy
