We went to a school jam thing and these other 2 kids thought they were gods gift. Me and my friend start jamming Cali and they were floored. They knew they had competition! haha
I had no idea he used a Cutlass on those early albums. I actually own a sunburst Cutlass I. Really, really stable neck and different, tighter tone than the regular Stingrays.

I was sorry to find out that Flea no longer was offering his Flea Bass. They’re a remarkable instrument, especially for the money. They do show up on the used market but are way overpriced...I’ve seen a few examples that sold for as much as the recently introduced Pre CBS relic’d Flea Signature Model in Shell Pink. The stacked volume and tone knobs on those early Jazz Basses was a good idea. I think Fender went to the three control V V T control after the first two years of the Jazz Bass introduction. I’ve modded both of my Fender USA Jazz Basses (1995 & 2008 ) to have the pair stacked volume and tone controls. If one can solder, it’s an easy and relatively inexpensive mod. It offers more tonal variations. I saw Fleas signature model and played one at Guitar Denter. Besides not having the money, I prefer to purchase instruments that look new and relic them myself through gigging. So I did the stacked control knob mod.

2 Ampeg SVT 300w heads with 2 matching 8x10s; one on either side of the drum riser. Volume knobs at 11. White Fender Precision Basses (2 or 3 per tour as he was rough on them.) That was his rig with The Ramones, which really, is all that matters.

Real MusicMan Stringrays are expensive as hell but if you really want one you could try their Sterling model which starts at £300 instead of £1000+
Also, check around for used ones. Just picked up a sick black one for $999. Not cheap, but better than $1,500
