i actually really liked the premise to this movie; it reminded me of the dystopian novels i really liked in middle school that are way less deep in retrospect than i thought they were. i feel like with better writing, acting, etc, this could’ve been a pretty decent film- nothing oscar-winning, maybe, but enjoyable. and yeah, expanding on the teacher character instead of completely glossing over him would’ve been a good way to actually give the movie meaning.

I have a problem with this movie. Did they ever mention about the Learning Disabilities Act (I apologize if I got the wrong name of the Act) in the film? How are children with learning disabilities handled in the world of "The Thinning"? When these standardized tests happened do they have to take the test like everyone else or do they use their accommodations? OR were the people with learning disabilities in this movie not allowed to go to school at all?

The whole thing is over-exaggerated and it somewhat revolves around Jimmy and Timmy being immediately sent to die because of the misunderstanding that they'll just fail the test, regardless.
The entire situation blows up to be this huge fuckfest of kids in medieval costumes trying to fight off Government agents and school teachers, resulting in Butters setting fire to the gym... again...

I have a problem with this movie. Did they ever mention about the Learning Disabilities Act (I apologize if I got the wrong name of the Act) in the film? How are children with learning disabilities handled in the world of "The Thinning"? When these standardized tests happened do they have to take the test like everyone else or do they use their accommodations? OR were the people with learning disabilities in this movie not allowed to go to school at all?

Actually, in Australia we now have NAPLAN (a governmental statistics test) on our iPads. They just "lockdown" our iPads meaning the home button is disabled and when you turn your iPad off and on it goes straight back to the test so you can't really get out and hack the system or anything

Japanese people are very apathetic towards suicide and suicide victims more as a burden to the community rather than relating to the person and their struggles in life.
