To be fair, a developer making a popular TV series video-game, while not knowing a thing/caring about said TV series is the most authentic part of the whole thing.

The most frustrating thing about the whole “burning down the murder house so the ghosts can leave” thing IS THAT WE KNOW HOW TO GET GHOSTS TO LEAVE THE MURDER HOUSE. WE LITERALLY SEE THE MAID’S CORPSE GET MOVED SO SHE CAN BE A GHOST WITH HER DEAD MOTHER INSTEAD OF IN THE HOUSE-

The whole premise of a house where dead people could reconnect with living family members once a year could be a real fucking somber yet kinda uplifting story, but this show decides to just make it a footnote and then nullify it with some weird meta twist? wtf

    • @toyamwarr
      @toyamwarr 3 года назад +76

I like that concept but imagine the conflict if only one deceased relative could visit during the reserved set of time and the family can only visit once a year. A family could arrive thinking they’ll get to see Grandma Ruth again for 3 days but Uncle George barges his way through to berate his family for taking his millions when they didn’t like him when he was alive. Or deceased Aunt Charlotte arrives to visit only to find out that she never really was a “loved” family member. Her family members were nice to her face because they wanted her money and when she wouldn’t outright die, they poisoned her.

It tried to be a more updated version of Roanoke, but at least what Roanoke had going for it with its "show within a show" premise is the Millers were unreliable narrators, or at least could've been. I at least liked the reveal of the "real" Butcher. Usually AHS has a problem with keeping villains scary by showing them too much, but the Butcher in the 2nd half of Roanoke genuinely scared me.

Honestly, I think the kid had it down pat in one line of dialogue. “You could’ve just watched it with me.” I find it kind of problematic how the solution to her issue with her son is just doing the original plan but better. Because if you’re a parent and your kid is into something like a game, book, or show or something then I can guarantee they will respect and enjoy it more if you just sit down with them to partake in some way rather than just more merchandise related to that hobby as a gift. I know it’s horror, and not needing a moral center, but most of the best horror does have a moral center such as how to handle depression in Babadook or subliminal race issues in Get Out. This could’ve been great if it focused on the mother learning to interact with her son instead of pandering to him. If you have a niche or different interest than your family I know you feel the same. You’d rather your mother or father actually watched the show or you play the game as opposed to them just buying you its associated merch. A story about this dichotomy could’ve been great, even still with self referential fan service. But instead it’s ONLY the fan service…

The race issues the movie targets are a metaphor for the way people can act towards a minority in modern culture without being aware of it. Like speaking butchered Spanish to a Mexican or mentioning basketball to an African American. The more overt horror is meant to convey this. The movie is giving a *subliminal* message through it’s more overt plot. Subliminal =/= Subtle all the time, especially in horror.

  • @Wonderlandhype

Here is my take on the AHStories now that its over
The first episode was fine. Yes, it was recycled from the first season except instead of moody Violet who is an "emo" teen, we have a teenage sadist. It sound ridiculous but at least it was a big change from the original Murder House other than her two dads. I was actually feeling bad for her when Paris Jackson and her friends exposed her to their livestream and I was still paying attention all the way to the end of the episode. It is up there of being one of the best ones.
Ep. 2 however was straight ass. The female Tate (that's what I call her) was horrible, her line delivery is the worse than what I've seen in a while...miraculously...and this episode felt so short and rushed. Everything got resolved too quickly like Paris and her friends wanted to murder Scarlet for revenge but one threat from female Tate and they back off and accepted the apology from their murderer. THEY ARE DEAD WHY DO THEY CARE?! It was just too unbelievable. I guess Ryan Murphy heard about the whole 'murder husband' fanfic trope and made it into 'murder wives.' This episode is just shit.
Episode 3 was fine, there was still bad acting but at least the story was a new concept we haven't seen yet. But I did laugh aloud twice, when the serial killer from AHS9 was dying with his own monologue and in the end when the two mains were having sex and I seen that the 'murder movie' was on Netflix and the world was ending outside and the screen just went to black.
Episode 4 would've been more therapeutic if Jake Paul and the other douchetubers were playing themselves. It was ridiculous and Danny Trejo deserved better. I had to shake my head at the rushed explanation of what creature it was and I wanted to swallow a bullet when I seen that last guy freak out and cry over 5 million subscribers when he's bleeding out and seconds away from death.
Ep. 5 was better but still stupid. I'm not a gigantic fan of Billie Lourd but for some reason, her being there made the episode better in a way. I did sorta liked the twist of her husband being a greedy cheater the whole time and I was okay with her getting revenge on him since he was basically gaslit her into an asylum. Not the best one but it was alright.
The sixth episode was actually fine for the first 15 minutes. I just hated when the exes and the scam artist went deep into the woods and had a standoff over several corpses. Cody Fern was on here too and I personally like him for the Apocalypse stuff...before the flashbacks. If it wasn't for those flashback episodes and the finale, Apocalypse would've been a top tier season. But I'm getting off-track. I'm just saying that he didn't save the episode and I fucking despise their child (Ik he was kidnaped and was raised in the woods for ten years but he did hesitate for a second to kill his parents) and if there was one AHStories that I would like to see is a continuation of this one but the parents as ghost kill all the cannibals and their kid as revenge. It sounds dark but that would be a good episode if done right.
Episode 7 was sad. They brought Dylan McDermont and Jamie Brewer back for no reason. You explained it better than I could but yeah, these are my thoughts and thanks for reading till the end if you do.

This just sounds like THE MOST EXPENSIVE WAY to write out a house that you no longer can legally film in and a way to justify your weird plot holes from now on lmao

The 10th season of the original show is actually really good and reminds me of the earlier seasons of AHS, just fyi if you’re ever curious. It’s at least MILES better than this god awful spinoff lol

@@jaykay1899 I’m still wondering if he honest and truly did this to try to keep us quiet while we waited for AHS season 10

Ah yes the classic "I need to get closer to person X so I'll work many many hours on project Y instead of being close to person X" storyline... timeless

I really don’t know how we went from this to the surprisingly very well done season 10 so far.

I was just thinking about this from a game-design perspective.
How could these events actually be implemented as a game with gameplay and game mechanics?
I guess this would probably be kind of like a Telltale "game", which is basicly a movie, where you have to press a button now and then to keep watching.

I guess the "it was all a dream" conceit evolved to "it was all a game"
