@@sirianofmorley Nope. The build quality in the 508 is all the way up there. Definitely premium quality. Design is of course a matter of taste, but when it comes to overall quality, there is nothing cheap (poop) about this car.

@@kimmern999 Last year I've driven 4 different Peogeot 308sw. All the same 2017 model. None of them lasted over a month before it had to go to the shop for some repair. The highest km on one of them was 120k km, lowest was 20k. I'm not talking about small repairs like a lightbulb either. I'm talking about repairs like turbo leak, break fluid leak, electrical wiring faults, ... 13 repairs over 11 months. I was doing about 8000km/month at that time. Suspension on that specific car is one of the worst I've ever had. I do like the look of the car though. I do hope for the people buying these cars that the build quality is better than my experience.

Picked mine up (same colour but manual diesel GTline) Novermber 19 and am delighted. Not surprised as the previous '63 plate 508SW I had did close on 200k without developing any problems. Only maintenance other than routine 20,000 services, was tyres and brake pads; that's all. Would have held onto it, but it didn't comply with the London ELEZ so it was time to say goodbye.
On the strength of that reliability I had been looking forward to the RHD model of this car for months, and had to wait quite a while for delivery after ordering, but worth the wait.
The review didn't mention the app which is new to me, very impressive and so is the sat nav, though you need a subscription (£69) to enable 'risk area' warnings, -aka speed cameras- and some other TomTom features. Nice touches as the satnav displays nearby garages and their fuel price.
Incidentally the app is currently reporting average consumption over almost 3000 miles as 63.9mpg.
As others below have noted, it is a good looking car and much admired. I do miss the glass roof from the previous 508SW,- - but I'll survive.

I cannot fault the 508 for looks and design, both inside and out. It looks quite stunning.
But for it to fully go up against the Germans, they have to put in engines that will compete with the big three. Merc, Audi and BMW. And a 225 bhp with a 0 - 60 time of 7.5 seconds isn't quite cutting it for me.

You do know that Mercedes now buy a large amount of their engines from Renault? Developed by Renault. Most people here saying "buy german lol" have zero idea how a car is put together or how the industri functions now a days. A lot of dealing, trading and co-development is done between manufacturers. And Renault is appareantly good enough at engines that Mercedes has been buying them for years and will continue to.

    Better than a BMW?
Peugeot? Easily better and I do not jest.
My Dad owned a 405 for 13 years, great car.
My brother owned a BMW 5-series 63-reg but was more than a little disappointed with it, particularly when my grandmother said that there wasn't really much room in the back.
To be honest I have often found with the 2 makes mentioned 2 common themes.
Peugeot: often stylish, a classy French make, often more roomy inside than it looks like from the outside (a TARDIS complex, you could say), but sadly often the butt of some people's jokes. But better value for money than most people expect.
BMW: Always expensive, a status symbol and a must have make for certain types, but often disappoints, not always the most practical for what you pay, are you paying for the name???

Pauly Flyer really, which parts will be falling apart exactly? The gearbox, made in Japan by Aisin? The interior, made by Peugeot-owned Faurecia, who also make the interiors of almost all the major German brands?? Perhaps the engine, co-developed by and widely used by BMW??? Or maybe it’s the body, assembled almost entirely by German made Kuka robots, used by EVERY German automaker in exactly the same way???? Resale is almost 100% subjective these days, but the French brands often now outrank the Germans in official reliability indices. Please inform yourself properly before making statements with no empirical basis.

If the steering wheel is obstructing your view, your seating position is way off. Don't sit on the floor and don't adjust the wheel all the way up to the ceiling at the same time, and you will have no issues. This myth about the obstructing steering wheel has reached stupid levels of biased sillyness. You'd really have to try in order to get the wheel to obstruct the dials.
