    Peugeot has certainly managed to nail the low emissions brief with the 508. Officially, it emits just 29g/km of CO2, or just a gramme more if you go for the estate-bodied SW version. It’s cars like this, plus the all-electric e-208 and e-2008, that explain why Peugeot, unlike some other brands, says it has no worries whatsoever meeting the latest emissions rules.

      The days of stylish BMWs are long gone, Audi were and are a VW in a posh frock, and MB will never get back their solid image when in the UK most are rep's cars. The 508 is a dark car inside, a bit claustrophobic.

      I've the 508 II and I can say that there are some details which are ill-thought-out: the access to the USB port is the best example. Generally the car is ergonomic and it's the most important thing when you drive, especially for the long distance.
      When comparing to German cars you can find that the Frogs have more imagination. For example in our company VW Passat: if you turned off the engine when the windscreen wipers were on automatic mode this mode of operation remains after the engine was turned on. Consider the situation: it's a winter and the windscreen is icy, the wipes are frozen to the glass. You turn the engine on and you go to the service to buy the new windscreen wipes ;-D It cannot happened in Peugeot!

    • @X3ABnew
      @X3ABnew 4 года назад +1

      I have bad experiences with Mazda 6: you have to keep the rotations elevated to obtain good drive parameters, on lower rotations the motor is lazy! If the doors were locked it's not quite simple to open them: you have to turn the locking device first and then to pull the handle. OK, in normal use, but when car was crashed and the persons inside don't know how to open the doors? Pulling the handle makes nothing! Add the panic to the situation and you have a good scenario for thriller film ;-) There is more the details like this in Mazda's cars. The way the audio system is to be handled is horrible!

    If you want to compare like for like, to give an accurate comparison, the 508SW plug-in hybrid has 530 litres of boot space, however, it still beats the Skoda Superb estate plug-in hybrid which only has 510 litres of boot space (not 660litres as mentioned in the non-plug-in hybrid)

    5 hours on a regular 3-pin is ace for the time, but a regular petrol powertrain is still easier to accommodate in general, and a diesel is still an option that makes sense for right-size usability and real-world economy in the D-segment market...

    • @Ithrazel

      Come home, plug in - how is petrol "easier" if I have to go somewhere other than home to fill up?

    • @blicknessraven
      @blicknessraven 4 года назад

      @@Ithrazel because it only takes a few minutes at the pump compared to hours on end at a switch, and you can use it a lot easier than you can electricity because range anxiety is still a thing when you take differences between acclaimed and real-world efficiency figures into account...
      I mean, if it works for your household, then support the market as you can, but to folks that live in flats as a lot of in-town motorists might, it just will not work without dedicated charging ports on every corner...and stop me if I'm wrong, but that's not very common in most areas...

    • @Ithrazel
      @Ithrazel 4 года назад +4

      Emmanuel Crentsil still absolutely don’t get it. The car in question just drives on petrol after the first 54 km on electricity. What range anxiety? Sure, the car is targeted towards somebody who has a charging point handy. For me, plug in hybrid seems a lot more reasonable than petrol only. I last filled up my tank probably 4 months ago as my commute uses 0 fuel. And if i forget to plug in or have it plugged in for a short time, then it just uses petrol. To me, filling up once a quarter and taking a few seconds to plug the car in after I arrive seems a lot more convenient and cheaper than filling up a few times per month. So overall, your point about petrol being “easier” essentially doesnt apply to anyone who could use the car as intended (has access to charging port at home)

      Hi AkaAndyKnuckles. The short answer: less than other 508s.
      The longer answer: the 508 Hybrid SW has a braked trailer weight of 1,340kg, but if you want to tow, get one of the 2.0-litre diesels instead - either can manage 1,800kg. Both numbers are lower than the equivalent Skoda Superb, though.

The taxi-driver said that he had more technical problems with the previous car (MB) that he has with this 407! With MB he was the well known client in service station ;-D
      I had 405, 406, 407 and the problems in these cars were (very often) with electronics. Especially in 407 the electronic controllers of ABS pump (Bosch) and motor calculator (BMS, Siemens) were faulty. There were no problems with mechanics and French electronics. The big question is when will they stop making them ? 15 years is only 2 model changes, so do you stop in 10 years so natural wastage takes effect or a bit later and risk having thousands of unsaleable cars ? When do you put the workers out of a job ? It's a bit of a rushed unthinking decision, who's going to dig the roads up to supply more power ? Will we need to import yet more electricity ? We can't supply our needs now, remember in the UK it takes 30 years to build a power station with all the planning, protests and running out of money to pay for it. There will be people with a house and somewhere to charge and an underclass living in flats who can't, so it's the bus for them, a bit of social engineering there. Where do all the unemployed car workers go and how do you pay for their unemployment benefits ? Electric motors are much simpler to make, the control gear will be the expensive bit, but they'll both be made in automated factories where the money and the markets are, not in the UK.
      But hey-ho, I''ll be dead by then, so not my problem, it was fun while it lasted.
