Peugeot 508 2020 review: Sportswagon

  • Every time I review a wagon I’m reminded of how much better they look than SUVs. A personal observation, sure, but this Peugeot 508 Sportswagon is a mighty fine looking machine, and practical for families too. There’s only one spec in the range, which makes things easy, and it costs $55,990 before on-road costs.
There are other good looking wagons on the road, like the Skoda Octavia for example, so the Pug has some competition. Here’s how the Peugeot 508 performed over seven days with my family.

midnight4109 PSA (owner of peugeot) has said they are returning to America in 2020. the thing stopping them is that the euro engines don’t pass US smog, and the steering wheels in many models don’t pass regulation because of the shape, after they figure out powertrains for america and install a more circular wheel they are coming here

Partially agree/disagree. I currently drive the Skoda Octavia and just ordered the Peugeot 508 SW (Allure Blue Lease, and some options, delivery Feb 2020) as my current leasing contract expires. On the outside they are somewhat comparable in size but inside the Octavia provides - by far - the most space.

    • @mschopman
      @mschopman 2 года назад +1

@@markpaterson6024 there are positives and negatives. Let me first start with the positives:
+ Handling is sublime. I can throw it around corners quite aggressively and you can feel the road without it becoming uncomfortable. On maximum speed in Germany at top speeds I never felt uncomfortable driving.
+ The dashboard concept is simply awesome and feels super natural.
      - The car entertainment is absolutely beyond horrible.
      Bluetooth
      b) The navigation is terrible. When driving through Italy it regularly was failing to recognize the roads; which can happen with construction work. But then it took more than 5 (!) minutes to recalculate a different route. That is not something you want to handle with an already annoyed wife sitting next to you.
      c) There is no easy way to turn of the sound of the navigation, other that permanently in the settings.
      d) In many occasions the positioning was off as well and I was driving the canal next to the road instead.
      e) I did not opt for more than the standard speakers, for a premium car, they sound horrible. It's the worst I have ever had in a car.
      f) This lack of calculating power also affects the parking sensors, which more than often react way too late. So you have to be extremely careful.

It looks like you had a very detailed report and what fitted was great, unfortunately there is a limit on the number of characters in comments and it got truncated.
Bluetooth is not ideal for phone linking, plug in remains the better alternative for long periods, also cell coverage can be an issue like it is here in Australia.

I'm sure the SW means Stationwagon and not Sportswagon.
I have exactly the same car in the same color but as a hybrid. I switched it for my previous SUV Peugeot 5008. A car that gave me a continiously headache and after 8 years of daily driving a serious foot injury due to wrong ergonomic sitting in that SUV. This footinjury caused me to stop hard running and as a result I gained 15kg in weight in the last 3 years.
Yes choosing a wrong car (SUV) can have many consequences.
After driving this 508sw for the last 2 years I can give it 3 downers :
    - the booth is just too small for a family with one dog and one kid
    - the backseat only seats 2 people and only has 2 Isofix'es for childseats. (3 would have been the minimum for such a big car)
    - the roofline of the car is about 5 cm too low (yes yes design, I know)

Love the look of it, sleek and long. Two things I couldn't live with are the nauseating seat design and placement of instrument cluster in relation to the steering wheel. I'm not surprised you jacked the seat all the way up to be able to see over it. Why can't Peugeot sort out a better placement either for the wheel, or the gauges?

    • @xanthuumnihyr5319
