Hella XENON Headlight Igniters: Are Silver 5DD008319-50 and Black 5DD008319-10 Ones Interchangeable?

This is a short review of Hella 4th generation xenon headlight system, which is used widely at many car makes and models like Audi A6, A8, Mercedes-Benz SLK, ML W163 W164 GL, E-Class W211, R-Class, Nissan Qashqai, Primera, Saab 9-3, BMW E60, E65, X5 E83, Ford Focus, C-Max and many more. It consists of Hella ballast control unit (5DV008290-00), external detachable, hence replaceable igniter (so-called ignition element, adapter, bulb holder: either 5DD008319-10 or 5DD008319-50) and D2S & D2R xenon bulbs.

Hi I have an old Mercedes C200 Kompressor 203 cl203 gasoline one. On one headlight I have the ballast underneath the headlight+ the ignitor inside the bulb and on the other one I have only droser+ that red connector you have in the left side of your video screen.On the red connector headlight,sometimes my bulb turning on sometimes it doesn't and stay so forever.What is the issues,the drosers on same headlights have new drosers.

if you have the third generation hella ballast installed (with the red-black bulb holder), it means that the whole ballast unit is faulty (given that your bulb is working perfectly). It also means that your headlight is repaired. CL203 has a AL/Bosch xenon system (not hella). Try to go back to original installation.

my wire coating is crumbling can i simply replace the wiring? where cane i find replacements?

best solution is to find another (glass-broken) used donor headlight and get the wiring from it. You can replace the wiring in most cases.

I have problem fitting the igniter to the headlamp housing. Can you show how to do it? I have problem fitting the 4 "legs" and turn the igniter clockwise 😩

I replaced my D2 bulb but it’s still not working. I’ve ordered the igniter. Do you have a video that shows how to replace the ballast on an 06 Mercedes SLK280?

We still not made a video for slk. Ballast replacement is a pain mate. You have to lift the car and search for access to the ballast. Simpme 3 screw job, but you should have access. Or check the wheel arch fender for any cover.
