After watching Drag Race Espana season 3 and seeing the mistreatment of Clover Bish, I was inspired to make this video, which highlights 7 queens throughout RuPaul's Drag Race herstory that production overlooked. We'll discuss American seasons, multiple different international franchises, and trying to solve the mystery of which queens have been overlooked the most.
We'll break down the journey of each queen, and their season and specifically which moments lead to them being so clearly overlooked by production. Whether it's unfair bottom placements, not getting challenge wins they clearly deserved, or both. We'll talk all about what made them overlooked and potentially why production did not see them as contenders for the crown.

Joe Black's runway critiques on UK S2 E1 might be the #1 most frustrating judging I've ever seen. Sure you didn't get Bowie in Joe's look, Michelle, suuuuuuuure.
She had to have been told by production to say Joe Black's look didn't read Bowie. Bowie's "Life on Mars" look is, in my opinion, one of his most iconic looks. There is no way that Michelle, especially if she's a huge David Bowie fan, didn't immediately recognize Joe Black's look for what it was. Joe even put in 2 different contact lenses to match Bowie's eyes, like come on. The outfit was a beautiful, tasteful, and respectful tribute to David Bowie and it's a down right shame she was read for it. It might not have been the most loud or flashy outfit, but Bowie's actual suit wasn't that flashy either. Pretty and well made, yes, but not extravagant.
Her hometown look was also very beautiful as well, even if that one wasn't instantly recognizable, which is fine because the queens are all here to teach viewers about themselves and where they come from. To see them shut down so quickly is so incredibly sad.
its speaks volumes of the charisma of the cast that uk2 had such a positive reception as it did, because on a rewatch it certainly feels like theyre making the worst possible judging decisions on purpose
UK S2 is one of the best seasons overall, but that first episode is legit just bad and the judging might be one of the worst across all seasons.
I really wanted to watch this season, but I got so frustrated with this happening in the first episode that I just could not.

Choriza May is another one worth mentioning. She’s one of the best characters to have been on the show, she made for incredible TV, gave some of the best confessionals in the show (especially her favorite thing about Newcastle), and was just hilarious all around (especially her explanation of her camping outfit). But I guess because they wanted to focus more on some people, they shrugged her off and threw her in the bottom (and double eliminated her) on a challenge she arguably did well in!
I think her is a good example of a hot take I have: immigrant queens are overlooked in a lot of season. I think that happened to Visa and Clover on España 3. They just didn't care about the two latin queens. Sadly, this has happened multiple times.
That first line "don't hate me because I'm beautiful, hate me because I'm an immigrant" WAS EVERYTHING 😂😂😂

Maddy Morphosis...She was hilarious, did really well in the improv and commercial challenges but had her best parts cut out, and was put into a box of just being "the straight one" without any regard for her talent as a performer. If she comes back for an All Stars and doesn't get the edit of "I'm straight lol" she'll do super well
From the moment I heard they are going to have can vs the world seasons, I hope that Maddy is going to participate in one of them since Brooke has stated that she liked her from the start
Maddy was definitely let go too soon. Her runways were always interesting, and I enjoyed her deadpan humor. I sincerely hope she returns for an all stars.
maddy very quickly became one of my favourite queens, which i very much was not expecting lmao. daddy morphosis is iconic
maddy was absolutely a stunt cast so they could have the buzz and the attention for having a cishet queen on the show. they did not plan on giving her the time of day at ALL, which is a real shame considering she ended up being a real highlight of the season for the time she was there
Maddy is fantastic. Like, everything. The looks, the humour - so Maddy can’t sew that well. That’s like a loooooot of other Queens. Maddy being cast was purely a stunt which is so gross. I want more Maddy Morphosis!
Surprised that Shuga Cain isn't on here, although I feel like she's well-known as being overlooked on S11

I think it’s important to mention as queer individuals that it was and still is straight cis women who would defend us when we are younger from bullies and oppressors and become ally’s within our community as we grow older ….so why wouldn’t we give them space in the world of drag.

Cant get over how overlooked Scarlet envy is by DR. That talent show or the ball gown she made,also solely her runways...so underappreachiated
Whats so crazy to me is I became OBSESSED with scarlet over her drag character. Like I do agree her drag on season 11 wasn't enough to get her towards the finale. But they completely overlooked how fresh her drag character is and that caused her to be overlooked.
Fast forward to all stats 6, she came back with her character even more developed but with some of the BEST drag we've seen both in runway and performance and she easily could've had a frontrunner storyline that they just didn't pursue because they still don't get her drag character. Thankfully now, I think they finally are starting to get it with soundbites of her going viral and how supportive the fanbase has been of her. There's rumors she's on on of the future vs the world's and they better give her her flowers

At 12:57 you mention Charity's Spice Girls look, and I feel like it bears repeating that BABY SPICE HERSELF was a guest judge, and was shown saying that Charity's look was something that Scary would love and wear herself. Like that was left in the episode, next to the other judges saying that it wasn't Scary Spice at all. Like they didn't even hide that it was completely rigged against Charity, it was so blatant and literally infuriating
Sometimes I really love the guest judges because they call out the hypocrisy of the judging it's happened a couple of times

Maybe they need a uk queen and Baby Spice as the two main judges. Graham Norton and Alan Carr we can keep as recurring judges but Ru and Michelle constantly miss the british jokes and references.
And Charity’s look was obviously Scary Spice. They said she never gave glamour or makeup diversity yet the second episode was exactly that.
I would love a movie where Juriji, Dakota, and Clover go all Charlie's Angels on the judges and get their revenge on them one by one like on Kill Bill.

Thorgy, Max, Jan are the perennial overlooked queens in the US franchise, but I really would love to see Jocelyn Fox have another shot. She was so adorable, funny, dumb like a fox (ha!) and got badly treated by production (and by Courtney). I’d be really curious to see how she would do now. She’s totally my cup of soup!

So agree with you, especially with Jan. The queens that are perfectionists with anxiety always get shit on and treated like they're delusional. It's really, really hard to train yourself out of people pleasing. I feel so bad for the way Jan, Loosey, and Alexis Michelle get edited.

Clover was cast through a lipsync competition because they were looking for a lipsync assassin. For her to fill that role they needed to put her in the bottom as much as possible. She absolutely won the comedy challenge but they wanted Kelly to be the returning queen and weren't willing to take the risk of letting Clover make the choice even though she probably would have chosen Kelly anyways. Could they just once judge a season fairly?
I think that after A'keria was sort of outed as a behind-the-scenes villain at the season 11 reunion, maybe the producers brought her on in hopes of her, Silky, and Ra'jah being like a villains clique. Then when they all were nice and genuine during the season, producers decided they only needed one redemption and Ra'jah was the one of the three who had been performing the best.
They deff redeemed Silky too tho, A'keria didn't bring her A game to All Stars and it showed
@@user-mz2ne4yh2t Silky gave them literally no choice by slaying those lip syncs though and they never actually treated her like an actual contender. And A’keria was doing pretty well but was just never highlighted.

Imo one of the most underrated queens and my second favorite of all. But the thing with her is that she does ok in almost every challenge but she never stands out except for that talent show performance which makes her a filler queen for the producers.
But her confessionals are hilarious! Still baffled that the fandom still hasn‘t picked up quotes from her like a pineapple gown with glitter on it bitch or where is my pocketbook, i‘m leaving

Clover's treatment on the show was one of the first times I genuinely was angry with the show. It was so disrespectful and insulting. They didn't even try to hide their intentions in eliminating clover. It's so frustrating as a viewer to watch someone doing so well but having her fate decided for her. There was nothing she could have done to have kept herself in the competition. They already determined she wouldn't make the finale before the season even aired. It leaves me with a really gross feeling
chiming in after seeing the finale. i wont spoil the winner, ill just say that the music video ended with a closeup of every single queen of the cast... except for clover. and she was at the very front of the stage, so they had no excuses. and then, when she walked the final runway, the javis didnt clap for her and just stared at her with the biggest fucking stank face.
i dismissed the sexism comments up until now bc i didnt want to believe that sexism would be an active part of drag race. i thought there had to be another, logical, explanation. but like... how tf can this be explained. how can any of the mistreatment she has recieved throughout the season be explained, other than the javis specifically hating her bc shes a woman. im fucking fuming, dude

pink chadora comes back for the last 30 seconds and wins
On the point of Aja, production loves giving a queen they plan not to be invested in for the rest of the season a win for that first episode. Tatianna in AS2, Aja, Monique (to a lesser extent), India Ferrah, and Kahanna Montrese all fit the bill. Only Yara Sofia in AS6 totally breaks the mold by being a big name that I think they had expectations of.
Kahanna was not overlooked but she was so mistreated
I think Monique exceeded their expectations and fought her storyline a bit, which is probably why she got asked back for a vs the world series. I feel like that's weirdly their silent theme with "vs the world" is for the girls who either the production paid dust (Monique, Jimbo, rumors of scarlet envy) or fans underappreciated before a big turnaround (rajah, silky, victoria)

Serena Cha Cha was horribily misstreated, they never wanted to give her a real chance and she was brought back only to be a joke for the audience (which ended up happening)

People look at me like I'm insaneeeee when I say that I feel like Yvie was overlooked the whole season - If it were up to me, Yvie would've won three challenges MINIMUM and made Top 4 lmao. Such a shame. It really hurts. It's like if you are not gonna appreciate it a woman doing drag why do you cast her. She has been amazing the whole season. Someone was making a review and they were saying to get the production ' if you want her to be out of the competition why you give them a song that she is gonna slay.' make it made sense
I will agree that Clover had a rough start and specially her first looks weren't great, but she really picked it but and by the last episode I thought she was doing amazing! She didn't deserve to be eliminated and have Kelly Roller go past her ...

I'd say Scarlet Envy on AS6 is a great example of being overlooked cuz she gave great performances every episode and couldve been high or in the top besides like 2 episodes and even on the episode she went home ppl did worse than her and was so unfairly critiqued with ru saying her performance made her uncomfortable and then even tho Jan did arguably worse in the challenge she still ends up going home and we were robbed of seeing all if her unaired runway looks especially that fcking stunning laser outfit

I’m surprised DeJa Skye wasn’t on here, considering how little screentime she got on season 14. Honestly one of the most underrated queens of the franchises in my opinion. Would also include Juriji Der Klee from Espana season 2
@@scarynoise996 how is being invisible for half the season a great edit? Only Robin Fierce and Kandy Ho had less screentime on their seasons. And she could have been a front runner if they truly wanted her to be, she did great in a lot of the challenges (except the talent show and the roast) and was robbed blind in the panels challenge. They ignored her to highlight how much Jorgeous bombed challenges and how much Daya and Jasmine fought

No idea what you’re talking about lmao, Deja had a very consistent edit and was regularly praised by the judges. She just didn’t really have an overarching storyline on the season, most likely since she wasn’t in the finale. But if we look at her vs Jorgeous whom she gets eliminated with and production loved, both still have about as much screentime throughout their time on the season.
Clover's track record compared to her preformance of the season is just... The way she should've won at least 2 maybe 3 challenges and the way every time she was in the bottom they would try to find contradictory reasons to put her there. It was so messy.
Also, that final lip sync was worse than Kerri vs Alyssa in trying to stop someone from winning it. I love Hornella, but when Clover did a split and the judges reacted they didn't even try to hide that they were amused. But when Hornella took her top off they just laughed it off, it was literally impossible to make her look like she was losing and it showed. Yet she still went home...
and the fact that THAT one lipsync she "lost" was something out of her control... Valentina spilled the tea a few days ago... they were going to do a song of a homphobic pop star, and Valentina said she would not stand for that, so they change the song the same day, Clover and Hornella didnt know the words apparently (i think that was out of their control) but the edit was so messy, there are times you can see Clover saying the words of another part of the song and they're trying to make her look like she's fucking it up while Hornella is falling apart... after that Valentina was surprised they end up sending Clover home
so yeah, they didnt care too much about her 😭
I really hope Aja comes back on AS9 or AS10. A few months ago I thought she wouldn't be willing to, but after seeing her as a lipsync assassin I think she might be willing to return. She needs her redemption, and as controversial she is, I really love her.

Tayce is also an interesting case where they didn't like her enough to save her from the bottom when half of her bottoms weren't fair but still couldn't kick her out bc nobody was on her level when it came to lip sync...The Roast she didn't deserve to be in the bottom at all like she was really good, same thing in the Acting challenge and the in the rusical she wasn't great but Ellie, her partner was worse and was Safe...Like ?! ☠️
But they were still featuring her as a talking head. She actually got a whole lot of screen time and I wouldn't call her overlooked exactly

I agree about A'Keria. I believe she should've won Pink Table Talk actually. She revealed things I didn't know and came across very genuine. I'm glad she didn't participate in the twist because she knew what time it was.
clover's casting gives very much tayce in a "we need someone who's likeable enough for people to root for but we can consistently put in the bottom" way. you can tell production didn't expect them to do well in comedy/acting/improv/stand up so when they ended up doing fine/well they still put them in the bottom because that's production for ya. same thing jaidynn went through only im not sure whether that was intentional or situational.
Cherry Valentine. R.I.P. Still so sad for her. She represented such a minority group [Roma Gypsy] her struggle in the outside world was huge and we never got to see her rise and show her amazing story and her drag was excellent. Her personality was everything. So kind, so funny, so hard working. I rarely get so attached and affected by someone on TV, I still cry over her.
Many of her unused runways were incredible too! She was a talented DA, and I feel like they mostly focused on some of the other cast members on that season over her. It's also a huge shame she's no longer with us, because I could've seen her as a possible contender on a Vs. The World season. May She Rest In Peace.
i’m a cis woman who wants to try doing drag because i feel like it could help me better connect with my autism and adhd and the parts of me that people have always looked down upon. seeing how cis female drag queens are being treated is a big downer, but i appreciate your support :)

Drag Race is not a representation of all drag. I'm not sure where you are but in most scenes you'll be welcomed. I hope you give it a go and nothing but luck to you
I feel so heard and seen and felt by you putting Yvie on this list. I think she was such a fun and unique character on the show. I wish they would just give queens the flowers they deserve, Jynx still would have won probably but the top 4 would have been more interesting
Not even that much of a fashion fan but Lashawn Beyond and Lineaysha Sparx delivered such timeless looks for their respective design challenges -- I haven't seen anything quite as crafty and unique like theirs.
She's never coming back to drag but Vivienne Pinay is such underrated great TV lmao. I loved watching how she was completely over the other queens and TV shenanigans in general lol.
I don't think a lot of the people who are on the Tyra hate bus have actually watched S2 and seen how polished and ahead of the competition of Drag Race she was at her age. (and yes, I do have the opinion that the hate she received as a winner was completely nonsensical while several actions she took were very misguided on her part.)
Couldn't agree more about Tyra! Joseph Shepherd's interview featuring James a couple months ago is a must watch, I believe.
@@therobotdevil2284 I give Joseph Shepard so much credit as an interviewer too. Even though I didn't agree with every reasoning Tyra gave, Joseph rightfully gave her justice by providing receipts and context for every time she was mistreated by the fanbase.
I also love Jocelyn Fox and thought she really got the short end on her season. That challenge that she went home on was supremely unfair

@@NotGettingWhatIPaidForRUclips It always astonishes me how above the rest of the cast Tyra was with their presentation, especially since they were 21 at the time, supporting a child, just started doing drag seriously, and had been on their own without their family's support since they were 15, being in and out of homelessness since then. Meanwhile Raven and Morgan were well-known drag titans back in the day with years of experience under their belt, and yet I don't think they held a candle to Tyra honestly.
Clover not winning that stand up/roast challenge was my final straw. She deserved so much better

i fully agree with you on yvie, i’m glad someone’s finally said it. honestly it feels like production and a sizeable portion of fans view her as a “lesser” winner and it’s really gross to me ngl. yvie’s also just a really important queen and especially winner to me personally, i also have a chronic illness that begets chronic pain and thus physical disability. having someone like her win her season and be such an earnest and uplifting person means the world to me. her draguation speech and odd bod dance video are genuinely really special to me, the former made me cry when the episode came out, and it’s nice hearing someone else talk about them.
I agree about Clover Bish. This is exactly the same direction my watching schedule went and I was even FINE with Pitita getting good wins. Until Clover was obviously being pushed aside. She had at least two wins and was just ignored.
I know she’s a host/judge on Drag Race Mexico, but Drag Race France seemed to LOVE shafting Lolita Banana in terms of challenge performances! Especially in the Talent Show, yowza!

España went from having two of the best seasons in the entire franchise to having THE WORST of the entire franchise.😊

@@luisamador5011 Philipines was painful I felt so bad for the queens they were brutally hard on them. And the first season of Italy tried so hard to produce a villian they ended up making 2 queens violate the code of conduct clause they have. They had to eliminate the one that violated the blasphamy rules that Italian TV has.
AS6 Half time challenge I thought that the top was gonna be Trinity, Jan, and Akeria. I thoroughly enjoyed Akeria’s prince and when they told her it was bad I was shocked. But also at the same time not shocked because production didn’t appreciate her.
Akeria could have easily won both of the seasons she was on but when fan support/producers not really on your side there is little you can do really it is the sad truth of a reality show.
She lost her lipsync against Yvie though.

I disagree with Jax and Lemon, i mean, Jax did great on the first episode but then she was just lost and then Lemon did bad on UKvTW.

If Clover’s on here, I’d nominate Juriji Der Klee as well. DRE COMPLETELY shunned her on Season 2, and she was robbed of a couple she could’ve won on. She even went out on the roast challenge, when she did pretty well!
And overall better than Estrella. But only one of them was a production favorite, so…
juriji had the fairest run of the season on dre2. dont let your stanning cloud your vision. all the placements she got, she deserved them
no because the fact that Juriji didnt have AT LEAST ONE WIN... they did her dirty bc she was bringing it on the runway and the drama, she gave good TV and i don't think the producers saw her as a real contender for the crown
im 100% think she should've won that acting/comedy challenge that she did with venedita, they were funnier than sharonne and estrella... not to mention she did so good on the roast and they still put her in the bottom 😭

Lynesha Sparx from season 5 was also an under dog. So talented and beautiful. First chance they had she was sent home. She had a win under her belt. I don’t think she does drag anymore.
your section on Charity Kase just made me mad. like why would they cast a drag artist who is KNOWN for how out of the box they are, then knock her down and critique her for not being the traditional, femme presenting drag queen. like she brought such a different angle, especially for DRUK. they lived for a queen like Cheddar on UK4 but shat on Charity for essentially being the in the same ballpark, maybe just a bit less polished
Scarlet Envy in AS6 was totally ignored by production.
I think they just wanted Clover as a lipsync assassin to send home other queens they didn't care about, and when she started doing great they refused to course correct.
Yvie is such an amazing queen, and she was overlooked as much on AS7 as she was on her original season.
She had to move forward because of her lip sync skills, and she had to win her final lip sync because the whole audience would be witness if editing tried to make her look bad.
Then comes AS7, and they don’t even care if she looked good, they were going to give it to Raja no matter what.

I agree with you. She and Sasha velour IMO are the most overlooked winners because they're more kooky. People fail to remember the double shantay of Yvie and Brooklyn when top "lip sync videos" are made. Yvie has a lot of traveling work so world of wonder definitely doesn't overlook her totally, but the fanbase often doesn't think she deserves any of her wins.

The thing about Clover was a classic case of pure mysoginy.
They chose Petita to win and instead of making things flow, like Carmen/Sharonne, they HEAVILY favorited Petita and destroyed ANY type of competition so she can win.
Petita is great but in the fandom, she is whatever. The REAL winners are both Clover and Visa. I mean, look at the interactions, NO ONE talks about the top 4 but Clover and Visa are smashing it so, in the end, that dirty play exploded into the judges/producers faces
Clover is here, but where’s Visa? She got put in the bottom while having probably the best look of the night and then won the LSFYL fair and square and still went home. She was the look queen this season and the judges hated on her for representing Mexico

Yvie Oddly is in my top 3 favorite drag race winners of all time. This includes All-Stars, UK, and Canada Drag Race winners and ppl say I'm insane for loving Yvie over so many winners but she is always herself, her brand isn't so much a character but it's her. Her humanity, and unapologetic authenticity are why I love her so much.

Like controversial opinion but I think Dela (S5), Loosey Leduca, Cheryl Hole, and many all stars queens when there were top 2 challenge wins could apply.

I can even recall a comment she made where she said she was surprised an argument she had with someone where she went off didn't make the editing cut which, again, screams favoritism to me. As far as Clover goes I really do think that was sexism. Just plain old fucking sexism. Yvie Oddly was also sooo overlooked to the degree where I'm glad nobody actually went home because if they did I know we'd have seen like maybe one or two episodes of Jaida and Yvie.

Denali! Watching her performance with Gottmik in the rusical. Denali was doing all kinds of amazing dance moves and tricks (come on, she's a pro figure skater!) and the editing was super shady. At one point you even see Denali IN THE BACKGROUND doing a flip, while Gottmik is just, you know, strumming an unplugged guitar. Sure, Gottmik is a great performer. And they did well. But as soon as I saw that edit, I knew that Denali was not long for the show, even though they were a stellar queen.
Yvie Oddly deserved more praise and wins from the judges on AS7, plus she 100% won that lip sync against Raja
Scarlet Envy and A’keria C’ Davenport were both criminally overlooked on AS6 to the point of me questioning whether they were even on AS6
Dakota Schiffer definietly should have had 2 or 3 wins on UK4 and should have made the finale, her elimination was bullshit

Charity Kase's performance on the Season 3 UK tour was out there and a lot of fun, but Anubis' performance also erred on horror which really makes me curious how she and Charity would have performed together if they'd stayed on the show longer
