RuPaul's Drag Race season 16 has been an absolute delight from the jump. From Plane Jane and Amanda Tori Meating's feud, to watching emerging legends like Nymphia Wind and Sapphira Cristal, and also watching Plasma on her journey to the crown. Unfortunately, that last one was ended this past week in one of the most surprising eliminations in Drag Race herstory.
Today, we're going to talk about just how unprecedented this elimination is, as Plasma was a double challenge winner and barely made it to the halfway point. Has this happened before? And narratively, what does this mean for the season?

It's so hard to accept the fact that she objectively had the worst look and lost the lipsync, therefore her elimination was fair. She was top 4 material for sure, I was rooting for her 😭

The reaction to her elimination wouldn't have been so strong if Q's track record hadn't protected her in a lip sync just a few episodes before. That is what made it feel unfair.

I don’t see what made Amanda so much better than Q in that lip sync. The granny floor twerking was a choice, but she emoted and knew the words. there’s no way Amanda was robbed of her spot in the show.
Amanda and Q were both mid and very close in the lipsync, you can justify any of them staying, they decided on Q since she is a polished and good queen, Amanda was past her expiration date
I’m personally not shocked because she did the worst in the challenge. This is what happens when you have more design challenges over acting challenges
And to be fair they just had one more design challenge than usual, usually theres just two including the ball

Are people really shocked? I mean sure, Plasma had 2 challenge wins, but the edit never showed her as a main character/finalist, I was definitely expecting her to go home soon

I think the elimination did Plasma a lot of favors … she had such a great attitude and then released her Bloody Mary video which was a slay. She has a perfect reason for an All Stars invite.
Yep, this elimination put her in the “hall of fame” memorable contestants; and it’s up to Plasma to capitalize on the situation. Her skills and talents that she showcased combined with her memorable exit - cause we won’t forget that any time soon - are the foundation to a most likely very successful post drag race career.
I think for sure she could have a redemption arc for story line in all star similar to that of Trixie Mattel

my only issue is that when you have “lip sync assassins” who are good at pretty much nothing else (mi’yah, jorgeous, kameron michaels), they end up sending deserving queens home and staying way longer than they should just off one talent.
(yes, majority of the time, they win the lip sync fair & square but they survive off one talent and take out queens who are more well-rounded and should have made it farther in the competition)

Kameron and Jorgeous had some great runway looks and were offering more confessionals wise. They weren’t messy lip syncers either.
That's a very bad point tbh. 1. Bc if the lipsync shouldn't matter, it shouldn't even be in the shows structure. 2. Every queen has their own sets of weakness and strengths. Just bc some of them are weaker at some stuff, it doesn't make them less deserving.
I don't see this attitude towards queens whose weak spots are performance. I don't see people saying that Q is undeserving of staying in the competition bc she can't dance/is weaker performance wise. This season has been 50/50 performance vs Design challenges. Why is one queen surviving off one talent and not the other? 🤔

!!! literally my exact feelings about lip syncs. I don't like that some ppl (like some you mentioned) are weak or inconsistent in basically everything but lip syncing and then they get to skate by because of that, meanwhile ppl who have been stronger and more consistent have one less than stellar lip sync and that all goes down the drain. like yeah lip syncs are a talent and it matters and should be taken into consideration, but like you said, well-rounded queens fall victim to assassins who, yeah, slay the lip sync but we know they likely won't make it to the end meanwhile the ppl they beat probably could have (sometimes).
People are so dumb hating on the queen someone lip-synched against…as if it’s their choice to send the other home? Wtf? Blame the system, blame the production! Don’t hate the player, hate the game. Or just don’t hate, period. Lol.
Or, rather than blaming the system or production, just realise that this is a competition show where it is completely normal for people to go home. It's absolutely crazy to me how much of a meltdown some people have over their DR faves going home.
I think that the producers are looking through Twitter right now pleased with themselves, this is exactly what they want: they want us shocked, talking, and giving the show publicity.
If they had wanted to keep Plasma, they would've. They could've edited that lipsync in a way what only showed Plasma's best moments and Mhi'ya's worst moments, and they could've cut to a reaction shot of Rupaul smiling at Plasma and another shot of Michelle frowning or looking unpleased with Mhi'ya. And then added in a confessional of a queen filmed during a previous episode saying something like "Plasma is doing so well". They could've justified keeping Plasma.
But sending her home is a gag and they know it, so it's better for the show to eliminate her instead of doing all that editing to keep her.
If they wanted to keep Plasma, they could also have cheated in a more direct way, give them a number she would excel in.
Though she'd still have to perform in that outfit. . .

Yes but she did take off her wig and in other lipsyncs she took off her shoes, many queens been eliminated before for these reasons so I Dont understand why she wasn’t treated like the other queens
Am I the only one that didn't find it that shocking? I don't think this changed eliminations forever or tore the space time continuum. She was one of my faves but she flopped and went home. It's very cut-and-dry.
I found it shocking that production let her go home. I kinda thought anyone left could’ve beat her in a lipsync so she’d only be low so they didn’t lose her. But I agree it didn’t change eliminations or shake the timeline

@@vanderson83 well nymphs look made up for the snatch game, however since the challenge was the look there was no redeeming factor for plasma, as her look was the worst by far (honestly I didn't know how they were going to judge the looks fairly as only plasma did poorly). and as for the lip sync, mhiya gave us one of the best performances in seasons and plasma one of the worst.
My favorite things about the season are;
A. I love how openly shady the girls are with each other. You can tell that it is not malicious in the way. It’s just drag queens being shady with each other and it’s fun.
B. The unpredictability and heartbreak of the eliminations. Mirage, Amanda, Plasma. Hershii was one of my top 4 picks. I feel like I never know what this season is gonna do next.

The only thing I was shocked about was that the judging was actually fair and just for once. Plasma was the worst and that how the show should be. It makes the stakes higher when at any moment, you could fail and have to pack your bags. Obviously she has a lot of goodwill and fans, so I’m sure she’ll be fine. She’s not my cup of tea, but that’s fine. There’s room for everyone. What I don’t care for is the mess the fans are saying about Mhi’ya. Every queen has strengths and weaknesses. The season hasn’t been ‘fair’ in that the challenges are obviously skewed to favour design/lewk queens over performance queens. Out of all the queens this season, Mhi’ya is the only one I had heard of before and the one who is most likely to gag and slay us at a show. Sewing garments from scratch is impressive, but who goes to a drag show just to see runway-worthy outfits? I want to be entertained…

I loved this elimination because it was fair and it felt bittersweeet. This is how competitions are supposed to feel like! We see people we like fail and go home and we feel for them.
I think the main problem here is not just the fact they eliminated a strong contestant but she was eliminated for someone who DIDN'T DO THE CHALLENGE. Maiya didn't do shit in that dress, that was all Sapphira.
Also, doing the lipsynch with a cap is a big no to a lot of people (even Trixie said so), she has a bobcat wig, why did she made a beannie reveal?💀 She doesn't have the polishment level to be so far in the competition.
Again, when has receiving help from another queen ever been a reason to put somebody in the bottom. Because if that’s the case, Bebe should’ve been in the bottom 2 with Shangela on All Stars 3, when she got Aja to help make her final look for the Warhol Ball. 🧐🧐🧐

tbh i am actually LIVING for plasma going home with 2 wins while mhiya has 1. it's about time drag race sends someone home for excelling in a lip sync and as a result, sending a front runner / top contender home.

This season is kind of a breath of fresh air.
I think we are getting back to the organic, unpredictable nature of early drag race. I love how Mhi’ya slayed the girl group and clutched the Snatch Game and is Kameron Michaels-ing this season. I love the clunky nature of the Plane/Amanda conflict and how it ended so weird. I love how emotional I got over Mirage. I love how Morphine is constantly respected for her mug. I am living for Sapphira’s patience because i kinda think she will win but she isnt getting the winner storyline.
This season is so random and powerful and i cant really tell who exactly will win because everything is so volatile! This is a return to form imo

Totally agree! I was getting bored with Dragrace and wasn't going to watch this season but a friend said it was good so I gave it a go and it's really been great! It feels fresh, the girls have talent and personalities!

i think the frustrating part is that mihya hasnt done well in any other part of the competition and plasma has, BUT there isn’t riggory because its a LIPSYNC and someone did better than her. it seems more like “im upset that a queen who (competition-wise) had more to offer went home” rather than “it was rigged and she should’ve been saved”
mihya is very talented at performing but that isnt the only skill required for drag race. i like mihya but i understand people being frustrated about a queen being saved when she hasnt been delivering (that is no reason to take it out on mihya tho. yall need to stop)

I honestly think they didn't expect Plasma to do so well. They 100% could've saved her from being in the bottom. They've done it multiple times before with Gigi and Gottmik. The producers wanted the other queens to get more wins in performance challenges. Her elimination was so heartbreaking. She is my absolute favorite of the season.
I agree. They knew she would slay in future challenges and possibly turn the tide. They want the top three that they have already chosen. Mi’yah is the pawn in thier game. They will chop her when they find it convenient.
I saw plasma yesterday at Ru’s book tour in NYC. She was super nice and was taking pics with fans whenever she could.

I think Plasma was casted by the producers as a filler queen. But they didn’t expect her to do as well as she did - and I think they might have envisioned Mirage being eliminated around this point instead, but her being eliminated early might have allowed Plasma a chance to go further.
No they definitely wanted mirage to go home when she did. They wouldn’t have put mirage in the bottom if they wanted her there longer, ultimately when she was in the bottom 3 and they found out she didn’t know the words they took the gag value over her staying

Maybe not as a filler but for whatever reason the producers didn’t want her in the finale and this might have been her only time in the bottom for them to send her home, especially with a challenge the next week where she’d place top or even win again

Plasmas elimination is a testament to just how good the S16 cast is. I hope she does All Stars she really grew on me as episodes progressed. Maya is not for me but even my initial reactions I couldn’t justify Plasma staying over her based on this episode.
Another point I can make is that, if Ru did with Plasma what she did with Candy when she lost the lipsync to Symone (I don't know if someone has said this in another comment), that would invalidate the existence of the immunity potions. Suppose that Plasma was saved like Candy on the lipsync, I could see Sapphira being like "Well if Ru doesn't care about the outcome of the lipsync, why did I bother using my immunity potion then?". And I could also see Plane being like "Well, why have I being holding on to the immunity potion for so long if the outcome of the lipsync doesn't matter?". Having said all that, I love Plasma, and I was very gutted that she left because I too was counting her for at least the Top 5 (Plane, Nymphia, Sapphira, Plasma, Q)

@@eba9121 I think the poster is speaking about when Q was in the bottom against Amanda. Amanda did better in the lip-sync than Q and she should have gone home. However, Amanda's story well had run dry in the producer's eyes, so they kept Q.
At the part where all of this gets theoretically reduced to a popularity contest if Plasma gets called to instead continue the competition, I just went "wait, this ISN'T a popularity contest?"
I don’t think the problem here is Plasma’s elimination in itself, it’s the fact that Q a few episodes earlier lost the lipsync and STILL got saved for her track record and now Plasma gets sent home after messing up once. It left a bad taste in my mouth
exactly its the hypocrisy! plus she basically didn’t make the dress herself, she technically didn’t complete the challenge.
Its not that shocking, Myah was better, period. Point out like that takes away how amazing it is for a queen to deliver 3 different lipsincs, overcome doubts and make an extra efford!
My main issue with Mihya not getting sent home is that she didn't even make her dress(both times) - like that should be an auto disqualification. Miyha doesn't even worry because she thinks she can just be a lip sync assation

@@thousandyardgavri2785for what we all watched Mi’yah looked like she did very little for herself in the challenge. Sewing a seam or two isn’t that hard.
@@thousandyardgavri2785because there’s only design and construction to a design challenge. Nymphia did her own dancing, singing, and choreography for the group challenge. So she did contribute.
But queens getting too much help or straight wearing clothes they brought with like one piece of fabric from the challenge sewn on top, or using materials not meant for the challenge. That’s all happened plenty of time before. And never has anyone been disqualified for it, just bottom 2.
I really need to express that the entire episode leading up to Plasma’s elimination made zero sense for its result. Derek already mentioned that Plasma had been very hyped up until this point with an underdog edit and an early second win, but Mhi’ya was also set up as an antagonist. Plasma was shown sweating and stressing over her look and everyone acknowledged she at least tried something new even if she failed, while Mhi’ya got the FULL delusional Aiden Zhane edit kicking back in the werkroom, rubbing it in everyone’s faces, and the queens AND the judges tearing into her HARD. The confessionals during the lip sync also mostly sided with Plasma except for Plane’s at the very end, so much so that I fully believed Plasma won until they announced she lost. An account on IG counts the number of confessionals every queen has, and Plasma had the most with nearly 2.5x more confessionals as Mhi’ya, the queen with the least. It was just really confusing why the show spent 9 episodes putting all their eggs in one basket just to have it upset by someone they hardly cared about.
They just wanted it to seem shocking. And plane said plasma was frazzled
probs to set up an all stars storyline. i think they have their 4 that they care about but plasma surprised them with how good she was, but there wasn't room for her in the end of this season so they're laying the foundation for a solid return, and mhi'ya is the scapegoat they're using to make plasma feel robbed to further build up that hype
And this is why I think this season is brilliant. It makes you think X and gives you Y in a very organic way. I have been really enjoying the way they are narrating this season so far.
Eliminating a front runner isn't new. Max, Dela, Katya. It's an old trick that used to happen at least once a season. Drag Race goes in cycles like that.
what you talked about from 17:27 on was literally what happened with Kandy "Wait" Muse
except at that point (ep. 8) Kandy had the worst track record of everyone left, which is even more wild
They had to save her because she was one of the only girls giving good TV. Imagine how boring the rest of the season would have been without Kandy!

I agree. And lip sync assassin is a term thrown out too casually. Chopping people isn’t the point. It’s delivering great lip sync performances. That’s what makes someone like Coco Montrese so fun to watch.
I feel like Mhia'ya having her dress done by Saphira was the salt to the wound here, like yes Plasma should be eliminated it was fair but like saving a girl who didn't made her dress on a design challange like GIRL ☠ what's fair about that
Networking and being likeable can get people far in life. So Sapphira chose to help Mhiya, let's say bc she liked her, but nobody helped plasma bc of her demeanor. Plasma could've received help or asked but didn't. Mhiya asked and received, and that's clearly a value that RuPaul respects.

That lipsync was close, Q hold her own enough for them to look at the track record, while in this lipsync Mhy’ia just annihilated Plasma even without the wig on, so it was far far away from close to determine track-record

I don’t get why people are saying it s rigged. She was put in the bottom 2 against the correct 2nd worst. She then had the chance to save herself, and lost. Those have been the rules since day 1. I’m sad she’s gone but the hate against Mhiya for doing exactly what was asked of her. Hate production for choosing not to rig it
If LaLa Ri can wear the bags and still get to stay, that should tell the fans that the lipsync can indeed save you when you turn it.

The difference between Amanda and Q’s lip sync and this one is that if Plasma stayed here, EVERYONE would be angry. Q did well enough to justify her staying. Personally I didn’t think of plasma as a front runner but the moment she got her 2nd win I was like okayyy plasma I started to like her some more bc I was annoyed with her at times not bc of anything she did but her gay theater kid moments in the confessionals lol. So when Mhi’ya sent her home I was like oh that’s wild bc she took off her wig to reveal a beanie like you would think that would’ve cost her the lipsync even tho we’ve had plenty of queens out perform another queen in a lipsync but the moment they took off their wigs they lost. So Plasma could’ve won on a technicality same for when Megami went home how Mhi’ya took her shoes off but stayed . Mhi’ya is breaking those curses so props to her. Plasma will be great competition for an all stars.

I don’t see what people have against gay theater kids. It’s always been a staple of our culture. Nowadays our gay people aren’t as cultured. Possibly because they don’t need to live a life that is so internal. Plasma is almost like a young relic of the past. I think young people are threatened by someone who is well educated in gay culture because most don’t have that to offer. Kardashians and Housewives and memes? You may as well be heterosexual huntee!
If we look at technicalities, Mhi’ya lip synced thrice, usually after 3 bottoms you’re out if you’re not a Coco, Heidi, Jorgeous, Darienne, Kameron, Jujubee, you know, girls who can throw it down in a lipsync battle but also have storylines and decent performances. Mhi’ya took off her shoes too, she did it in all of her lipsyncs, yet you get confessionals saying how de-dragging is a death sentence

As sad and as shocking as it was to see plasma go, it was 100% justified and shit like this is what I love abt drag race. Drag race has been so predictable in recent years, that when we get an outcome that is soooo unexpected yet 100% fair and justifiable, it’s sooooo good to watch and it really makes it feel like anyone’s next and anyone could win. This season so far is soooo good and so refreshing from recent seasons, Im so hooked and I can’t wait to see who ends up winning!

I understand that it may have been difficult to see Plasma go, but it's comforting to know that she's finally receiving the recognition she deserves. It's natural to have mixed feelings, but it's important to appreciate the positive outcome.
I just feel so bad for Plasma, she was literally talented in every category EXCEPT sewing/design challenges. It's just a shame she was dealt the card of this being Season 3 2.0, cuz if it were any other season she would have made Top 5 or Top 4 easily, they just had to do 3 design challenges to carry Nymphia and Q to the end I guess...
Also on the opening up a can of worms comment they kinda already did that with Kandy didn't they? Like the main reason Kandy was saved WAS because they liked her and she was a production favorite. Like they already opened up that can of worms. The producers and rupaul simply just didn't care for Plasma enough to do the same, which is weird because they still chose to give her the Rusical win over Sapphira when Sapphira hasn't gotten a win since the first ep.
Also gotta feel for Amanda since she also won a lip sync against a queen with a great track record yet she didn't get to stay. Sure she didn't eat her up as much as Mhi'ya did but she still won, plus she had a major storyline going on for her with Plane and being the underdog hero of that storyline. I still don't get why she was eliminated.
im actually happy with this elim cause im sick of already figuring out how the season would go after 4-5 episodes & knowing how production acts usually…this was shocking but fair cause i didn’t expect them to eliminate a front runner like that but that’s exciting !! need more of this energy

Plasma grew on me the last few episodes but from the jump I thought she would be top 4-I personally thought it should have been a double save but still I’m shocked about the wig not having a wig underneath
I am obsessed with season 16!! I really feel as though we are in a modern golden age era.
the problem is that Mhy’ia didn’t make her own runway!!!! This is the second time that Sapphira completely took over and handed her a free design. Plasma has brought incredible looks to the runway AND incredible performances to our screens each week, and Mhy’ia has only brought us good lip syncs. Their’s nothing more of her to see, it’s as simple as that. I don’t dislike Mhy’ia in fact I’d love to see her perform live, but she shouldn’t have made it as far as she has
i stan that main US drag race finally embracing the real stakes that just a few slip ups can send miss “i won every challenge” home, yall can cry if u want but this gives the show some real stakes and unpredictability imo
I just want to chime in and add my thoughts to the conversation, Being a full-time working drag queen myself. . One of the main frustrating things I find about RPDR is the lip sync song selection. I absolutely find it unfair that 90% of the time in modern drag race the songs selected are usually top 40, high energy or dance songs.
It's entirely unfair for plasma to be expected to turn out to a song style that isn't up her alley. It would have been a great opportunity to incorporate a Broadway number on the show again.
I work a lot and perform in a variety of shows but I will always pick something that will show off my strengths. And I feel like most of the contestants get to do that because a lot of them are dancers but dancer doesn't mean you're a good performer. I see so many queens even locally in my community who have to do splits or kicks just to get applause. Good performing is a mix of stage presence, some dancing and acting and blocking and especially emotion!!!
So it would be nice to see songs that are well rounded.
I remember season 2 when JuJu did black velvet, an iconic lip sync. Also Latrice killing "no business like show business" . Or Naomi doing Judy's rain or shine.
Hell it'd be nice to see some liza, dolly, Whitney ect.
i think for post VH1 era US Drag Race this is potentially a top 3 season. i think 9 and 12 are still better but this season is filling a very specific niche to me, and that's just being organically fun. even though there's some riggory everybody's getting propped up and given a chance to shine in the edit in some way. unlike season 15 where half the queens were basically edited out, here it feels like the early and now middle outs have been getting lots of screen time to really show them off. i think back to hershii getting tons and tons of confessionals despite being a first out, or amanda being the main character of the narrative for her whole time there. the only queen i can think of who the show didnt really give a moment to on the production end was Mirage, but she ended up going viral in a way I don't think production expected, so it still ended up evening out. overall i'm just really excited for new episodes each week, especially just to see the workroom banter. at the very least its been edited in a very warm, comfortable way thats reminding me of 12 where it just feels like the room is filled with joy. it's definitely a personal favorite for me rn, but that could just be recency bias idk lol.
Yes they definitely have a very balanced offering of girls this season and they have all gotten a lot of attention.

For me, Katya's elimination was shocking in the context of the season. I mean you're gonna put Pearl against Trixie and act like she won the lip sync. Then you're gonna put her against Miss Fame, so that you can pretend that she's an assassin.
But Katya and Kennedy (who are probably the best lip syncers of the season) have to lip sync against each other?? The audacity still touches me

To me, the Q and Amanda lipsync were more evenly matched in comparison to Mhi'ya and Plasma lipsync, where Mhi'ya devoured Plasma.
Also, you have to take into account production's plans. Why get rid of Q right before a design challenge and keep Amanda. Same as next week, we have a performance challenge, were Mhi'ya is going to most likely slay.
I understand the look wasnt good and the lip sync was meh, but AT LEAST SHE MADE IT! I legitimately cannot get passed the fact that she made it through in a challenge where they were supposed to sew.
everything you said about this season was 100% spot on and it made me realize why i loved drag duel so much. aside from the cast, i feel like the shocking eliminations are what made it so good, the entire time i had no clue who was gonna go or who was making it to the end. so watching drag race has made me miss drag duel not gonna lie 😂

That was a cardinal sin in and of itself.
Another thing about this season is that the wins are spread out. So each elimination is kind of a sting. Even the queens that haven’t had wins or as many they still have memorable moments. This cast is honestly one of the strongest cast ever. Last season only the top 5 had wins except for Aura so that season was kind of like waiting for the inevitable of the clear top 5.
Miyah won the lipsync BUT SHE DIDN'T MAKE HER OWN DRESS IN A DESIGN CHALLENGE... That alone should have sent her packing without even being allowed to lipsync

There were no rules broken? As there are no rules for the design challenges, just the rules they impose on sequestration really. Mad people are pressed Mhiya got help but she's still bottom two lol. She could've come out naked or in something like Lala but she'd still win the lipsync, the thing that all bottom girls must do. Mhiya deserved being bottom two, for sure, but being sent home no competition, is just y'all mad at people helping each other. This episode was more entertaining bc Sapphira helped Mhiya and all that drama. Also furthering sapphiras storyline.
@@ShouPow a design challenge means designing your own look, good or iconically bad. Miyah used sapphiras design, sapphira made 95% of the dress... It is fundamentally failing at all criteria of the challenge. Even Michelle called it out...

Sorry to disagree here. Mhi’ya deserved to go home regardless of the lip sync. No hate towards her, she ate the lip sync, but after lip syncing for the third time, removing her shoes in one, losing her wig in another to reveal the “groundbreaking” petals and having only a black wig cap underneath, being in the bottom for not making her own dress in a design challenge, like, come on. You say plasma bombed the challenge; Mhi’ya didn’t even do the challenge. Plasma had the worst look and did pretty bad at the lip sync, but so did Q and they eliminated Amanda, who actually did really well in the challenge and objectively won the lip sync. So make it make sense

Idk I understand that in these circumstances Plasma being eliminated is the most "fair" outcome but she has so much talent and is so entertaining while Mhiya is just... meh. She's not likeable, she's not charismatic or entertaining, her acting is not good, her runways are not good, her lipsyncs are okay at most, so is it really beneficial for the show to keep a subpar contestant? Also the fandom is insufferable acting like you're killing someone's grandma if you don't like Mhiya lol.

I Remember when season 12 ended some people wanted a redo, like bring the same queens back minus the winner just to see, and this is the only other season i feel that same way about. Truly.
The argument you made about “if favourites stay, then nothing matters” I feel like can be said about Mhi’yah, though. Yes, lip syncing to keep from going home is a part of the competition, but so are the challenges. Letting someone stay who killed the lip sync but didn’t even fully do the challenge just makes it okay to phone it in on the challenge and save yourself in the lip sync. I’m feeling like Yvie on Season 11 when Silky said she was just going to lip sync and not try on the challenges. The lip sync for your life is meant to be your last push to stay in the competition, but you still need to push in the challenge. Up until now, people who failed the challenges at least tried. La La Ri had the worst design challenge look of all time, but at least she made it and tried.

Left this comment on Bussy's channel and I'm leaving it here too: It didn’t seem like Sapphira “helped” Mii’yah as much as she fully made it for her. That’s my issue. How is that alone not enough to get you sent home? She’s very talented at lip syncs, I will never take that away from her. But she has failed at every other aspect of drag race. Repeatedly. And yes, I’m including Snatch Game. Still not sure why she was in the top for that other than it’s the first time she’s done anything remotely memorable besides flip. It doesn’t make sense to keep her, especially when she didn’t even make the damn dress.
Someone asked what Plasma does well besides comedy and I answered: She can sing, she can dance, she can act. She’s a theater queen with a BFA. Ya get all of those pretty standard. The one thing she couldn’t do was make clothing. And she still tried and made something on her own. Unlike Mii’yah.

Well she can make clothing per se; she’s just boxed in her specific aesthetic which didn’t match the challenge. She made clothing pieces. They were decently made/constructed generally speaking, not falling apart. But her concept, styling and understanding of the brief were totally off. The pants she made, they were ok. The fringe kind of shrug thingy, it was ok. The body suit’s proportions were a tad off, but it was ok. But together, the pieces were not cohesive. It was totally off brand, and she was in over her head. But she tried, and she tried hard, and you have to command her for that. Things might have been different if she had, like Sapphira, stuck to what she knows works for her persona of Plasma. But she took a risk, crashed and burned. But: if you’re going to go out, might as well go out in flames!
I agree with you. To me it felt like the challenge didn’t even matter. Like why did Plasma bust her ass off to make an outfit when she could have just done the bare minimum and saved her energy for the lip sync. Mhi’yah had someone else literally design and cut out her outfit (and had no shame about it), and even with that had a mediocre outfit. I don’t hate her by any means, but she’s not cut out for this competition. If it really only boils down to the lip sync, then why bother with any of the challenges, then?

Based on her track record, the fact that she at least made the look herself, Plasma should have stayed. And from what I could make of the lipsync montage (which is also cut to make one they want to win look best), she did that very well. I liked it much more than the "I will show you each and every move I have, even if it doesn't fit the song" approach from Mihya. But unfortunately, that approach works very well on drag race (some even do this with slow songs...).
I agree. The details were messy in Miyahs performance with no consideration for the delivery of the song.
In the last years, the default pattern is that there are obvious favorite (or 'token') queens & storylines that need to be shown, right from the start of a season.
Which is visible at many moments, such as during a lipsync. I think it is often most visible during judging, where for the same challenge they criticise queen 1 for X, and then praise queen 2 for doing exactly that but now it is suddenly a positive: "We have seen this before/this is your comfort zone" vs. "This is so on brand for you", are pretty much the flip sides of the same thing.
Combine that with a strong preference for young queens (sometimes with only months of experience), for white queens, and for fashion queens (if when they do not have many other talents), and the show starts to become very stale & predictable.

I'm living for season 16. I can't wait to see why you live for it too but S16 has felt good. The amount of possible winners, talent, finally more design challenges then the goofy acting challenges, and likeability with the queens. It's so good!

I am Plasma's #1 Defense Attorney. I did *NOT* want her to get eliminated, but I see how it happened. She flopped the challenge and the lip-sync, those are the 2 things that can save you and she didn't save herself.
The reason I'm upset is literally the Kandy Muse situation. Kandy flopped the challenge & lost the lip-sync, send her home. BUT WAIT! Suddenly it doesn't matter! (but just for Kandy) By saving her (and the arguments she started in Untucked), the show said "Entertainment beats performance, but just for Kandy". The favoritism the show granted her is astounding, and that inconsistency is flat out unfair.
I was not shocked, but i was sad. I started to warm up to her finally, and she went home already 😢

The thing that makes me angry is that Mhi’ya was a nonfactor in the season, she didn’t excel the past weeks and this was her 3rd lipsync (usually 3 bottoms and you’re out, only Coco, Heidi and Jorgeous, some of the best performers, had more that mattered to the competition); the edit made us care and root for Plasma, they could have just edited the lipsync to make her look better like they have done multiple times. I wanna say that I don’t hate Mhi’ya (the comments implying that people are just r*cist make me sick), I just don’t think she’s suited for a competition like drag race, nor for a reality show
This season is sooo good, like u said in past seasons the episodes ended and i was so mad and in this season sometimes Im just gagged that that happened but is what had to happen when in season 14 i felt like nothing matters youre just gonna keep saving queens just because you can

Plasma was a hot mess though, no matter what you may have thought about Mhi’ya. Plasma was competing against her wig more that she had a fighting chance against Mhi’ya. Based on her lip sync performance and how horrible her outfit was, I’d say the only person she might have been about to beat was Q. Mhi’ya just went for the extra mile and buried her six feet under
